<kallisti5[m]>
expected. All the builders are down :-)
<kallisti5[m]>
leavengood is working to get a new builder online... i'll check in with him. high level: I moved, have a much slower semi-unstable internet connection for the moment. He's bringing another builder online to help cover builds
<kallisti5[m]>
once my internet is improved, i'll bring mine back online and we'll have two builders
<jhj>
Begasus: Hiya - I see you've been touching Boost recently.
<Begasus>
hi jhj, yeah, PR for newer version is at haikuports
<jhj>
Might be worth looking at before you update or merge that.
<jhj>
I'd offer but building building Boost is kind of time consuming.
<jhj>
-building
<Begasus>
not merging untill there has been some testing, localy I had no issues with it so far, but then again also not with the other boost version :/
<Begasus>
only started to look into boost newer version for a newer poppler version iirc :)
<jhj>
Begasus: If you have a moment, you could try `git clone https://github.com/aremmell/libsir -b python && cd libsir && make tests++`
<jhj>
I'm not the C++ guy, so the error (about std::allocator) isn't too helpful to me.
<Begasus>
No problem, I'm not a developer at all :)
<Begasus>
only a small part of the output, too large to paste :)
<jhj>
Yeah, that's the important stuff. Thank you much.
<Begasus>
np, that's a +1 for boost1.83 then ;)
<Begasus>
libsir ... where did I see that one ...
<jhj>
Probably me.
<Begasus>
forum?
<jhj>
Not sure, more than likely here.
<jhj>
We had some issues with LLVM before too, but that was mostly fixed in the 16.0.6 one.
<jhj>
Of course adding the C++ wrapper exposes a few more things.
<Begasus>
nice, reminds me I need to update for that
<augiedoggie>
the builders are stuck
<jhj>
I'm not sure what the policy is about removing old versions, and I don't know if these older versions of boost::format are compatible with R1b4 and just not nightly.
<jhj>
But it might be worth deprecating the two older Boost packages once you get the new one in, since boost::format is broken on them now.
<augiedoggie>
hm, looks like the 64 bit llvm finished
<Begasus>
there has been some major cleanup on the older boost versions not that long ago, 1.69 is still pretty widely used in recipes
<jhj>
Of course, Boost is a behemouth.
<jhj>
Since boost::format won't even compile on current nightly, I assume those packages aren't using boost::format, or they were built using GCC < 13?
<Begasus>
we still need to be sure not to break thins on removing older packages
<Begasus>
probably still pre gcc13 yes
<jhj>
That might be a hassle to bump everything.
<Begasus>
yeah, dropping boost169 would mean a massive re-write for those packages
<jhj>
I wonder how many of them are broken if building on current nightly?
<jhj>
I guess they don't use format.
<Begasus>
only one way to find out :)
<Begasus>
ah boost170 has only been revbumped 2 weeks ago, so that build was still ok with gcc13
<jhj>
I guess worst case, you'd have to see if you could cherry-pick that commit into the older packages.
<jhj>
It's not all of Boost, just header-only Boost::format.
<Begasus>
it isn't a big change, could be worth a try ...
<jhj>
Meanwhile, it seems like my Haiku VM has been getting stuck since I switched the disks to virtio. :(
<Begasus>
still running it in VMWare when I boot into Windows, but nothing beats running it native
<jhj>
Yeah, it's very weird. Using a virtio disk, everything eventually hangs. Commands just hang, can't be interrupted. The UI becomes unresponsive, no menu, etc.
<jhj>
Clock advances though.
<jhj>
Switched back to ata and I'll try building again.

<Begasus>
will try tomorrow with the boost versions we got and report back to you on it
<Begasus>
now time to close down :)
<jhj>
No problem. Thanks much, +1 vote for the new one.
<Begasus>
np, happy that worked out ok :)

I think that tickets #15440, #15450, and #18458 stand to be closed. I don't see #15440 anymore, #15450 is not true, and #18458 is a specific example of #18459 anyway.
