<JensGlathe[m]> "X13s is quite tolerant re..." <- do you have any USB-C hubs you'd recommend for the X13s? A lot of them I see are USB4 or Thunderbolt, and I'm worried I might run into bandwidth issues or they won't work at all

<JensGlathe[m]>
I have a Lenovo Thunderbolt dock 40B0. This works pretty well with it, haven't booted with drive attached there, though

Dantheman825: looking wild but works.
<JensGlathe[m]>
Limitations I've seen: Don't use the HDMI connector on the dock, it will break the connection to the ssd attached to the dock (and it doesn't work either, but I remember it should).
<Dantheman825[m]>
JensGlathe[m]: noted
<Dantheman825[m]>
if my GPU monstrosity works out though, I shouldn't need to use it
<JensGlathe[m]>
Today is Radxa O6 day
<Dantheman825[m]>
did you order a board?
<JensGlathe[m]>
yep
<Dantheman825[m]>
nice, what do you plan to do with it?
<HdkR>
Current issues I have. CPU clockspeeds when booting with ACPI seem buggered, and perf top doesn't work except for the A520 cores
<JensGlathe[m]>
Ok. Have no expectations, but the whole stack is kinda open
<HdkR>
Oh, and the cores don't run at the full advertised speed
<JensGlathe[m]>
And since its 64GB it can do VM host work
<JensGlathe[m]>
Early chips?
<HdkR>
Supposedly firmware bugs
<JensGlathe[m]>
I see you can select the speeds, default is lowest
<JensGlathe[m]>
Will try to install later, do a few rounds
<Dantheman825[m]>
I would get a Radxa Orion, but I'm just not sure what I'd do with it besides also FEX testing, which is sort of what I got the X13s for
<JensGlathe[m]>
you only need an excuse
<JensGlathe[m]>
Mine was "curiosity" and "maybe some direct KVM capability, supposed to be all open"
<Dantheman825[m]>
I feel like with ARM hardware, the viability as a workstation replacement is like 90% there
<JensGlathe[m]>
didn't expect to get the plixiglas variant tbh, but nice
<JensGlathe[m]>
You can buy a Thelio
SpieringsAE has joined #aarch64-laptops
<Dantheman825[m]>
the Ampere One Thelio?
<SpieringsAE>
I guess so
<JensGlathe[m]>
System76, but yes, Ampere
<Dantheman825[m]>
I mean yeah, but that's also overkill for me

I am waiting for a sophgo sg2044 based board to come out before splurge on something again
<SpieringsAE>
though I am very tempted to get a fairphone 5 to try some linux stuff on
<HdkR>
Dantheman825[m]: Ampere Altra, Not AmpereOne
<Dantheman825[m]>
noted, my bad
<Dantheman825[m]>
at some point I need to see how ARM PCs can handle VR
<HdkR>
I'm watching the space quite a lot. Nobody ships an AmpereOne A96-37X workstation yet
<Dantheman825[m]>
I managed to get my Quest 2 to run xrgears through WiVRn and Monado on my X13s

is sad the only thing preventing him from playing beatsaber.apk on his poor 7c1 laptop is display engine/displayport controller limits
<Dantheman825[m]>
it's just a matter of figuring out if SteamVR games can handle the layers of emulation

<Dantheman825[m]>
does the Radxa Orion O6 run a mainline kernel, or is it downstream?
<JensGlathe[m]>
It is downstream, they have started upstreaming a few days ago, though
<Dantheman825[m]>
how far behind is downstream?
<HdkR>
6.1 or 6.6 depending
<Dantheman825[m]>
that's not too bad I suppose
<maz>
if you're not too demanding, upstream works out of the box.
<HdkR>
It can also boot an upstream kernel with ACPI yea
<JensGlathe[m]>
yeah. My Unraid boxes run 6.6, its stable
<maz>
hopefully the ACPI support improves quickly enough that we get SPE described in the tables.

robclark: SuperTuxKart at higher graphics settings has a lot of artefacts on x1e, unless FD_MESA_DEBUG=nofp16 is used (with a cleared shader cache): https://0x0.st/8u3A.jpg
<icecream95>
Of course, that could easily be a game bug... there were issues a few years ago with using mediump too much, but now almost all of the shaders use "precision highp float"
