<kallisti5[m]>
So... What do y'all want:
<kallisti5[m]>
a) Haiku R1/beta3 to be an iso
<kallisti5[m]>
b) Haiku R1/beta3 to be ziped into a zip file
<kallisti5[m]>
I heard some pushback of people wanting a last release... so asking while we can change it :-)
<kallisti5[m]>
the zip saves around 19MiB
<Not-5835>
[haiku/infrastructure] kallisti5 pushed 1 commit to master [+0/-0/±1] https://git.io/JnMXN
<Not-5835>
[haiku/infrastructure] kallisti5 65b8c9c - concourse: Drop zip for official releases
<julicenri>
If zstd was more widespread, then that could be used for compression instead.
<julicenri>
That is, if file size is such an important factor.
<jezek2>
yeah the zip was a bit unfortunate, couldn't seed the torrent because I needed the space taken by the zips, also it's better to have official hashes for the .iso itself than the zip too :)
<AlwaysLivid>
yeah, that's exactly one of the things i brought up to kallisti5[m]
<AlwaysLivid>
if the goal is to head a bit closer towards reproducible builds, getting rid of zip's is an obvious step
<AlwaysLivid>
although less important compared to other stuff that needs to be done
<AlwaysLivid>
alongside other things such as it being very much annoying.

<AlwaysLivid>
B2IA/AGMS, is it possible to add more of Haiku's channels to BeShare? I haven't managed to ever use it, simply because I haven't been able to find a proper working version ofr it in all honesty.
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Yes, that's one thing we should do - update the HaikuPorts BeShare to be a working version.
<AlwaysLivid>
Do you have a link to a working copy of the source code in the public internet?
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Hmmm, could monitor more IRC channels to the BeShare bridge easily enough, but would do that one way (otherwise would spam multiple IRC channels).
<Begasus>
(not that I use it that much anymore) but still, it's one we should try to keep alive :)
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Yup, was a big part of early BeOS.
<Begasus>
We are all familiar as (old) BeOS users with the 'binky's' ;)
<Begasus>
Had some serieus fun back then with it, and I think I'm not alone there
<AlwaysLivid>
Begasus, are you familiar with my next big plan for HaikuPorts?
<AlwaysLivid>
So... code.google.com repositories... there's an archive for all of them!
<Begasus>
I'm not able to keep track on your plans AlwaysLivid ;)
<AlwaysLivid>
No worries, it's just that there's this place on the internet called the Software Heritage! And they archive software and everything so that it's not lost forever!
<Begasus>
I'ts a lot bigger then my todo/whishlist here ;)
<AlwaysLivid>
They're pretty cool and I was told that Guix does the exact same thing.
<Begasus>
There is another one that can find some older archives, can't remember the name though

software heritage is supported by unesco apparently btw

but good piece of trivia

bbjimmy_mobile: will /boot/home/config/packages work for a location that will exclude from up or down grading?
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Yes, ScottPuopolo, that is for personal packages. /boot/system/packages gets wiped out when doing a reinstall, but /boot/home/config/packages is kept. If using pkgman to install, you can specify that place with "pkgman install --home somepackage" rather than the default --system.
<ScottPuopolo>
AGMS: good to know about the flags for pkgman install, didn't see that in the help for pkgman in terminal.
<B2IA>
(AGMS) ScottPuopolo, it's in the tricky second level help. "pkgman install --help""
<ScottPuopolo>
AGMS: yes, thanks! I was just reading that myself.
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Well, almost have the new BeShare recipe for HaikuPorts working, just need to get the post-install script into the package.
