Hello
<jeremyf[m]>
Hello
<zeroability[m]>
I have some questions about the beta iso and an issue I am having with it booting properly if someone has time. It will sometimes boot up to the rocket ship and sometimes to a mouse cursor that doesn't move and eventually a kernel panic. I understand there is limited support for Radeon HD and dual monitors and I am wondering if that is the case. Any help would be appreciated.

To enter the Boot Loader Options, you have to press and keep holding the SHIFT key before the beginning of Haiku's boot process.
<rennj>
On computers that use UEFI for booting instead of the classic BIOS, you need to use the SPACEBAR instead.
<rennj>
Use fail-safe graphics driver is what i would try zeroability[m], i.e. vesa graphics
<zeroability[m]>
I will try that. Thank you. :)

g'morning peeps
<zeroability[m]>
I tried both safe mode and failsafe graphics. Eventually I turned on debug output and it seemed to have an issue reading the install media. I made another boot disk using a different USB stick and it appears to do the same thing. The behavior seems to happen on USB 2 and 3 ports. Unless I am using dd incorrectly, I'm not sure what else to check.

<Begasus>
did you try whiping out all on the USB stick? (also partitions)
<Begasus>
Had it a while back with one here, it already had a Haiku image on it and partitioned, had to whipe it all clean and use "imagecopywriter" (not sure about the name as it's in Dutch here :)

?
<nephele[x]>
Doc sais it's a dep, and we have it as a dep, so eh
<nephele[x]>
alpine doesn't show library names for deps :/
<Begasus>
didn't check the build without boost
<nephele[x]>
How can i delete stuff it puts in data/ ?
<nephele[x]>
it puts some .desktop files there we will never use
<Begasus>
did you click on the "Depends (49)" at that link?
<nephele[x]>
Yes i did
<Begasus>
most of our deps are listed there also
<nephele[x]>
Yes, but no library names
<Begasus>
"rm -rf
<nephele[x]>
is there a way to split up the recipe so it makes calligra_words calligra_stage etc. and have "calligra" just pull those in? so we don't have to install all always
<Begasus>
rm -rf $dataDir/* (replace * with what you want to remove
<nephele[x]>
-r only makes sense if the star then wnts dirs :)
<Begasus>
as you can see, Alpine already uses 2 subpackages
<Begasus>
can't tell without looking what's inside there :P
<nephele[x]>
Well, maybe they do.. but i was asking about our packages :)

I don't really like the practice of making -lang packages, it's a bit "either you get english or you install /all languages/ if you are international"
<nephele[x]>
Surely users only want to install languages they care about, maybe based on what is in locale prefs
<Begasus>
not saying you should do it for a lang package :)
<nephele[x]>
just an offhand thought :)

<orealis>
boo.. need slower servers so they don't download so fast
<kallisti5[m]>
lol. I have it pinned in a few places. IPFS will be an official mirror for releases, but we'll have lots of more traditional mirrors as well
<kallisti5[m]>
I think this might be the last RC before final R1/Beta3
<kallisti5[m]>
pro tip: RC1 might "become" R1/Beta3. If you check the sha256sum of R1/Beta3, it'll likely match
<kallisti5[m]>
thus, you won't need to download it again. Just keep in mind someone could find a bug and we might issue a RC2 in a panic
<kallisti5[m]>
also, don't spread this around... it just creates confusion ;-)

kallisti5, everything is OK with Intel_extreme using a clean install
<HaikuUser>
So, no regression :)
<kallisti5[m]>
nice! Ok.. looks like that app_server cherrypick was a good call
<PulkoMandy>
I had some issues with the intel driver being confused and ending up with an invalid config file, so maybe try deleting the config file (I think it's worspaces setting?)
<PulkoMandy>
otherwise it tries to set an invalid video mode in some cases
<HaikuUser>
It's odd that it stopped working after the last update. No way to go back now, since I've done a reformat and clean install
<HaikuUser>
It's good enough to know there wasn't any last minute regression

Trying to make a change to an existing wip gerrit change but it seems to be picking up a different change for some reason and is failing. I even tried deleting, pulling down all of the haiku sources, making my change, and redoing. Same issue. Notice any problems here?
<jeremyf[m]>
On translating credits, how are some real name and some nicknames?
<AlwaysLivid>
Depends on whether the person discloses their real name or operate in a pseudonymous manner.
<AlwaysLivid>
You can set your real name. If you don't, your username will be used instead.
<jeremyf[m]>
Is it sufficient to add real name into gerrit account?
<AlwaysLivid>
If you want. There's no real name policy.
<jeremyf[m]>
Ah ok
<jeremyf[m]>
I added it last day

Regarding my install disk issue, Begasus suggested I wipe the USB sticks. I also revised my dd command to be more consistent with the documentation. I decided to try booting on my old Gateway notebook with a Radeon HD 4250 and Phenom II x2. There were no issues with booting Haiku and going to the live desktop. I will test it on my PC later today. My suspicion is the issue is similar to the UEFI issue reported in the tracker as a kernel
<zeroability[m]>
panic. Since the notebook is legacy it might be a confirmation of that issue.
mabmab has left #haiku [WeeChat 1.0.1]
<rennj>
perhaps try legacy bios if you got that option rather than uefi
<rennj>
phenomII x2, wonder how it compares to my amd a10 apu..
<rennj>
i get 3.1Ghz on 1 of the 4 cores, but all 4 cores can run at 2.5Ghz till heat kicks in
<rennj>
course 15watt apu vs 45/65watt part
<zeroability[m]>
I will definitely try that kernel debug as suggested.
<Diver>
do you have a picture of the panic?
<zeroability[m]>
It's a Phenom II x2 N660 if you want to do a comparison.
<zeroability[m]>
I don't have a picture but I will try to get one. I think the panic came up randomly as the frozen desktop comes up randomly.
<rennj>
i owned a laptop with that cpu
<rennj>
it burned itself out
<zeroability[m]>
Haiku is a new experience for me.
<zeroability[m]>
This one is still going strong. I did reapply thermal paste and replaced the pads, though.
<zeroability[m]>
The original battery still mostly works. I think the plastics will get worse first.
