can we use a "cmd" to launch the print dialog?

<Begasus>
something like "lpr" in linux?
<nephele>
do you just want the dialog or you want to print something?
<OscarL>
print_server supports scripting via "hey"
kinkinkijkin has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<Begasus>
using the print cmd in tuxpaint-config nephele , they seem to using lpr by default there (printing is broken for TuxPaint for a while, just wanted to see if something else there could bring up a dialog or something to send the print from within TuxPaint to print the image)
<OscarL>
(but I can't find anything "ready made" for quick "print this" stuff from the commandline.)
<OscarL>
print server still uses "OpenBeOS" name for the scripting suites :-D

another milestone in tuxpaint/tuxpaint-config, now saves configuration files to both user/system level files :)
<OscarL>
meanwhile I still can't talk reliably to my mouse via BSerialPort :-( (but works via pyserial). Sigh...
<Begasus>
tsss :)

I bet is 50% my fault (I suck at C and C++), and 50% some subtle bug in the timeout and/or baudrate setting on BSerialPort/pc_serial.
<Begasus>
Depends on which 50% needs mending then :)
<OscarL>
going crazy trying to make sure the weird things I see are not the fault of my test code :-D
<OscarL>
at this pace.... I should have a fix in about 2... 3 more years :-P
<Begasus>
lol
<nephele>
OscarL: even if you did everything wrong, you can still ask on the forum or create a ticket :)
<nephele>
In some cases "this api is bad and confusing" is a bug of it's own :P
<Begasus>
Should be good to go now when new release is announced :D
<OscarL>
nephele: yeah, I'll ask for help, but I also try to not waste people's time (more than I already do :-P). Need to figure out what to ask first :-D
<nephele>
this is my code, this is my python code, this is what i expect and this is what happens :)

Already submitted tests code in .py and .cpp as part of some tickets (#17842, #17861). But I guess not many people even remember serial mouse, let alone have one to test :-P
<OscarL>
(we got some bugs fixed already at least)

OscarL: As in PS/2?
<OscarL>
we already talked about this braewoods :) Older that PS/2.
<braewoods>
Oh. lol
<OscarL>
Mice with an RS-232, DB-9 connector (or via PS/2 -> RS-232 passive adapter). :-D
<OscarL>
(assuming said PS/2 mouse supports that mode)

Managed to finally read the mouse ID using BSerialPort (matching what I get when using pyserial). Seems that calling ClearInput(), or just invoking functions in slightly different order, breaks things.
<OscarL>
Calling it a day, in any case. See you later, folks!

i was runnning low in HD space upgrading, so i deleted my 2021 administrative state while updating. Now i get stuck after launch icon, nothing change. state just before (december 207 2022) boot fine. I wonder if a regression happened or if i did bad magic deleting states while updating.
<AlienSoldier>
*december 27
<Habbie>
i don't know much, but how did you delete the 2021 state?
<AlienSoldier>
sent them to the trash by clicking shift i think to remove the security moving lock
<AlienSoldier>
did that before, just not knowing if it is safe to do it while updating
<AlienSoldier>
if it is a regression, that one may be tricky to find, i was busy so i was not able to update that laptop often. Last working state is hrev56676.
<jessicah>
AlienSoldier: it may have been booting into an older state despite updating, if your haiku loader hadn't been updated
<jessicah>
as packages got switched over to zstd compression
<jessicah>
this would primarily affect uefi booting
