Hi Begas_VM!
<Begas_VM>
still need to fix the patch for llvm9 :)
<Begas_VM>
on the one for tuxpaint-config, not sure, need to see if others use something like $preferenceDir (if something like that even exists)

<jmairboeck>
I used it for the (java based) PortMidi Setup tool
<jmairboeck>
and it is used for the Qt configuration tools
<jmairboeck>
this is just for where it appears in the Deskbar menu, not about the binary itself
<Begas_VM>
need to check that :)
<Begas_VM>
but not today anymore :P
<Begas_VM>
botan and armadillo in the pipeline (but probably for tomorrow too), need some checking first there

I created a tap.cpp to test somethings and added it to its own directory called tap in src/add-ons/kernel/network/devices/tap/tap.cpp. I copy and pasted the tun Jamfile and edited it to replace all mentions of tun with tap but now I cannot seem to compile it using `jam -q tap` which results in it saying `don't know how to make tap` so i... <HaikuUser>
did you edit haiku/src/add-ons/kernel/network/devices/Jamfile to mention tap ?

<AnatolyRabin>
I'm checking in here cos I'm curious about Haiku and thinking about trying it, but basically all I know about it is DistroTube's vid. What's the baremetal experience like?
geigercounter[m] has joined #haiku
<AnatolyRabin>
Oh cool. It is bridged.
<erysdren>
AnatolyRabin im in the same position, i've been playing with the live boot image on my IBM ThinkPad Z60t
<erysdren>
seems like the perfect place to use it imo
<jessicah>
Hardware support varies
<erysdren>
i assume he probably means "fresh from install" and not literally "running on bare metal"
<erysdren>
idk though
<AnatolyRabin>
I actually was asking about hardware support. I am probably gonna try a VM first
<erysdren>
oh, woops
<erysdren>
yeah it works great in QEMU, either 32 or 64 bit
<erysdren>
you can get a good feel for it there
<jessicah>
If using virtual box, don't set chipset to ICH, bugged ATM for nightly image
<jessicah>
May also affect actual hardware, there's been a regression with PCI support in a small number of cases
<AnatolyRabin>
I am hoping to talk to a developer of Haiku sometime also, cos I'm curious about how it ticks but not very capable of reading source code
<AnatolyRabin>
I ser
<AnatolyRabin>
*see
<jessicah>
I am one, but depends on area of interest
<AnatolyRabin>
I am on Linux so I was probably going to use VirtManager
<AnatolyRabin>
Integrations, but let me swap to Matrix
<geigercounter[m]>
Ok better

My area of specific interest atm is how controlling windows works in Haiku. And my overall goal is to have an open source OS with well-integrated voice control. I am seemingly the last fan of Windows Speech Recognition and the way it seemlessly handles so many end-user voice-based accessibility options. Being able to control the browser, dictate, and activate pretty much any UI element systemwide from a one-stop accessibility tool
<geigercounter[m]>
that doesn't need internet access is criminally underrated.
<erysdren>
very understandable
<geigercounter[m]>
And it seems to me that Haiku would be better at supporting that than Linux desktop environments.
<erysdren>
a11y is so important in all areas of computing
<erysdren>
a place that linux is heavily lacking.
<jessicah>
Haiku has a messaging based suites for programmatic UI interaction
<jessicah>
There's the CLI tool `hey` for an example implementation
<geigercounter[m]>
Oooh
<geigercounter[m]>
I'd like to take a look at that, do you have a demo video?
