karolherbst: they said we should have the bot protection, yeah. Though it's not available on the interface ATM, but I guess given how special our account is, we need to ask for everything they promised

<bentiss>
hmm, I wonder if some runners are not using registry-direct.fd.o instead of registry.fd.o...
<bentiss>
looks like gfx-ci/tracie is, sigh
* bentiss
updates the DNS
<bentiss>
actually, the NDS was already correct, just that there were no ingress on the new server
<bentiss>
at least the data should be correct
<bentiss>
heh, looking at the logs on the old servers, it seems a few AI scrappers are using DNS overrides as they are still pointing at the old server
<kode54>
will fdo be implementing Anubis? heheh
<bentiss>
kode54: plan is to offload that to fastly
<kode54>
gotcha
<bentiss>
this is on my plate this week
<bentiss>
and I'll probably need volunteers to iron out the issues
<dwfreed>
perhaps they just resolved the name once a while ago and never resolved it again
<bentiss>
yeah, I thought at that too. It totally makes sense for them to be conservative in their requests on internet :)
<bentiss>
look, we are good: we only query DNS once in a month!!!!
<dwfreed>
lol
<bentiss>
TBH, I wouldn ´t be surprised if they query dns only when they start the bot, and never after. So if the bot comes back on the website but hasn't been restarted -> old address

<sima>
airlied, I was kinda wondering whether we should have some git notes systems so that stuff like this doesn't slip through
<sima>
the annotated merge commits are good for technical summary, but the "this really needs to be highlighted" stuff we don't track outside of our brains
<sima>
things like tricky merge conflicts might also be good to track explicitly
<mupuf>
austriancoder, bentiss: I have seen extremelly slow internet on the runners today, not sure if something changed but it may be the reason why this job failed.
<bentiss>
mupuf: I *think* fastly serving the registry means that it's going really fast compared to our previous setup, and when a new job starts, all the bandwidth gets used to download the container image
<bentiss>
on x86-1 I do see a lot of data downloaded from fastly
<mupuf>
that may explain
<bentiss>
though the amount of data shoulsd be limited. Let's hope once the local container caches have warmed up this will be better
<mupuf>
yep!
<austriancoder>
bentiss: mupuf: I think my problem is not related to that. cuttlefish does not start up. also this job does not run in the nightly pipeline - hmm

well it makes sense, they don't want to get banned from DNS servers
<karolherbst>
and 99.9% of the pages they scrap will keep their IP addresses anyway
