<legendaryamerican> So. Should usb3.x be working in beta 4.. definitive. Because that's the biggie.
<icculus> Hello! I have come with a possible FAQ here: we had a buildbot set up that ran on Haiku to make sure each commit still built correctly for the OS...but now we're on GitHub and have turned off the buildbot. So I want to get an equivalent on GitHub Actions.
<icculus> Has anyone done anything like this? I'm thinking I'm going to need a cross-compiler that builds Haiku binaries from Linux, and a reasonable way to get that compiler onto a random Linux machine without building the toolchain from scratch each time.

<legendaryamerican> Aren't they rewriting jambase to be hambase... one would think their team at Duke will be awnsering that one.
<legendaryamerican> Btw.. ham is supposed to be planet wide replacement for jam(?).. so major heroic kudoes.
<legendaryamerican> This means.. hopefully linux perforce jam will be replaced with ham and for making the targets for whatever in linux even for haiku. If my thinking isn't replaced with a half eaten bannna.

<stickman68> https://www.haiku-os.org/guides/building/get-source-git provides instructions for downloading the sources for the buildtools and haiku.
<stickman68> https://www.haiku-os.org/guides/building/pre-reqs provides instructions for installing the necessary tools to build haiku.
<augiedoggie> heh, he's not asking for help building Haiku, and I don't think SDL is going to replace their build tool with ham :P
<stickman68> why would he be building on linux instead of haiku?
<augiedoggie> have to get a response from waddlesplash or someone
<augiedoggie> it's for a buildbot
<waddlesplash> icculus: I know korli managed to run QEMU inside GitHub Actions somehow
<waddlesplash> icculus: there's also this docker image for a cross compiler: https://github.com/haiku/haiku/tree/master/3rdparty/docker/cross-compiler
<icculus> @stickman68: GitHub Actions run on GitHub's servers, which only run Linux, Windows, or macOS.

<stickman68> ahh.
<legendaryamerican> Not knocking linux except to say they knock uefi and closed themselves out of lots of systems.. and people think their liscenses are creepy.

<icculus> @waddlesplash: thanks, I'll take a look!
<icculus> (too much discord, I've started adding '@' to mentions, hah)
<legendaryamerican> Purely psychological. Seeing jam was used in linux why not ham. I know. Make it a separate arguement. No one asked if ham would exist in windows or macos either. I think if a hierarchical paradigm shift isn't recognized.. thats not good for working in the other os's anyway. Same tool.. just built for modern challenges met.
<legendaryamerican> But to linux people.. from years ago. "At least it isn't eula" lol
<legendaryamerican> I get the ham arguement. Why do people make build systems unnessicarily difficult. Building workload.
<legendaryamerican> Trust me. There's enough to do. I'll leave it at that.

<dominicm> legendaryamerican: Ham has some platform specific assumptions for Unix-like systems just because that's what it was built on, but everything platform specific is marked and should be attainable to abstract. The hope is to have Ham run on all POSIX systems, Mac, and Windows :)
<dominicm> Or honestly, if the refactor goes well it will run on anything that implements the C++ filesystem library and the C stdlib

<nephele> Fairly good! waddlesplash has been destroying issues one after the other
<waddlesplash> :)
<nephele> maybe waddlesplash can teach me how the kernel settings work, and I can make a setting for the HD debugger font, and inverted colors for the kdl
<waddlesplash> probably these should just be "hidden" settings
<waddlesplash> just read the code, there's get_* functions to retrieve settings
<nephele> hidden? we kind of heuristically determin if you want to use the bigger font, it should be a setting if you want the bigger one
<nephele> do you mean to heuristically determine "differen" kdl colors too?
<nephele> >just read the code, there's get_* functions to retrieve settings
<nephele> I know there is settings somewhere, but where :D
