<HaikuFan>
Hello. Enjoying Beta 4. Has anyone tried the cronie cron daemon?
<mmu_man>
don't think so, was that from the BeOS era?
<mmu_man>
launch_daemon should probably be able to do the same now though.
<HaikuFan>
Thanks. It's in the Haiku Depot. I'll have to give it a try. But enjoying the nice desktop now.
<mmu_man>
Enjoy :)

Launch Daemon looks interesting. Thanks for mentioning it!

zdykstra: I can't remember if my code to select the haiku partition from the same disk the loader is on is still present in the code or not...
<jessicah>
if it is, and you have haiku loader on both disks, you could then use refind
<jessicah>
refind will remember which loader it used last and boot that one

one disk has an ESP, the other is just a full partition / BFS
<zdykstra>
I pulled the disk from another machine that had the ESP on the non-Haiku disk
<jessicah>
ah, that won't work then :-/

does anyone know how disable the "double-click to hide a window" thing in Haiku? a lot of times the window I am working in gets hidden when I drag it around by the frame
<realtaraharris>
also, is there a way to things so that window focus goes back to the previous window? a lot of times I start an app from the terminal, then shut it with cmd-q, and my terminal isn't in focus
<realtaraharris>
these two things are incredibly annoying
<realtaraharris>
I have messed with AutoRaise quite a lot, and no combination of settings helps at all
<augiedoggie>
i don't have that problem with Terminal, do you have a specific example?
<augiedoggie>
i don't use AutoRaise at all
mmu_man has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<realtaraharris>
open Terminal
<realtaraharris>
type "Time" and hit enter
<realtaraharris>
then press Alt-Q
<realtaraharris>
on my system, Terminal will not be focused
bbjimmy_64 has joined #haiku
<augiedoggie>
hm, i'm still having trouble reproducing the problem
<augiedoggie>
for your other question, i don't think you can override the double click behavior for the decorator without writing a new one
<augiedoggie>
window decorator*

There we go. Revived my haiku box.
<andreasdr[m]>
Yarrrrr.
<andreasdr[m]>
I also have a nice Haiku tinker PC.
<Tekktonic>
I've got an old Thinkpad T41. CPU fan died, had to import a new one from Europe.
<Tekktonic>
Took *ages*
<realtaraharris>
hmm, ok, maybe I messed up some setting somehow if that's just happening to me
<zdykstra>
realtaraharris: the window focus behavior is because of Focus Follows Mouse / AutoRaise
<Tekktonic>
Asked a question a while ago but I don't remember if I got a good answer: a lot of newer apps are written against qt, but I'm not sure if that's just a familiarity/ease of porting thing. Is the Be/Haiku API still developed and recommended, or should new apps just use something like Qt or Gtk?
<zdykstra>
disable that and launching Time from a terminal and then quitting it results in Terminal getting focus again
<Tekktonic>
I'm going to be using this full time for a week this summer, figure I might as well be prepared in case I get bored.
<realtaraharris>
@Tekktonic please please please write native apps. I avoid Qt and Gtk like the plague
<Tekktonic>
Works for me :p
<realtaraharris>
I have been learning the Haiku API and it is wonderful
<Tekktonic>
I remember it being the least horrible C++ API I'd seen last time I looked at it 10 years ago.
<Tekktonic>
Which is saying a lot
<realtaraharris>
yes
<realtaraharris>
how do I get rid of AutoRaise completely?
matt3 has left #haiku [#haiku]
<zdykstra>
just turn it off
<zdykstra>
there's an option in the deskbar replicant to enable/disable it
<realtaraharris>
hmm, something else must be wrong then
<realtaraharris>
I'll just live with it for now
<augiedoggie>
are you leaving the mouse cursor over the Deskbar? The Deskbar auto-raise feature has that effect
<realtaraharris>
hmm, no

For those venturous souls... *very* basic (and still work-in-progress) Haiku driver to read AMD's temp from the north-bridge from older CPUs (K10 to Jaguar/Puma, with some older Athlon64/Opterons too, apparently): https://github.com/OscarL/amd_temp
<foint[m]>
Will haiku run great on 192mb ram?
<foint[m]>
Really old computer
<waddlesplash>
it will probably be passable, if you give it a bunch of swap space
<waddlesplash>
you will likely need to install from a nightly as the beta build may not boot as it needs more RAM
<foint[m]>
But aside from that
<foint[m]>
It will be usable?
<waddlesplash>
possibly. I know 512MB is more than enough still. 192MB may be a bit of a squeeze.
<waddlesplash>
there's definitely a bunch of ways RAM usage could be optimized especially in packagefs

I think kallisti5[m] tried USB DVD drives and found they show up but don't work in at least some cases
<waddlesplash>
not sure how a DAC would appear. if it shows up as a serial device that will work probably, if it shows up as an audio device it won't as of now (the usb_audio driver still needs more work)
Forza has joined #haiku
<PulkoMandy>
Usb cd is just usb mass storage so that should not be a problem. However we may have issues with accessing audio cds from it
<PulkoMandy>
(we really should get the usb mass storage driver to use the proper scsi layer)
