<badkeming[m]> Hm. I actually have an E450 system (bobcat-derived w/codename "zacate") and like 3 FX-8350 Piledriver-gen systems.
<badkeming[m]> Never thought about using the E-450 w/Haiku, but now that I think about it, it'd be purrfect.
<badkeming[m]> (since it uses so little power)

<|cos|> Good morning! I'm a bit confused about two things. Firstly, zstd_source shows in HaikuDepot, but appears to not be installable. Is that a known issue, or is it just me? I've first attempted installing it with pkgman, but switched to gui assuming I got the syntax wrong.
<|cos|> Secondly, is it really necessary to cross-compile the toolchain before attempting to build haiku on haiku, of the same architecture as target?
mmu_man has joined #haiku
<Begas_VM> the source can't be installed over pkgman/HD afaik |cos|
<|cos|> Begas_VM: thanks for clarifying!

<prosy> i wonder where to create a bash_aliases file in Haiku. bashrc resides within /boot/system/settings, so a bash_aliases should be too? Or is there a bash_aliases yet and i'm to stupid to find it?
<OscarL> Uhh, fancy!! :-D. Hello Begas_VM! Sorry to read you still need to way a bit longer to get home. (welp... I guess not so many hours left now).
<Begasus> prOSy, use "profile" in settings for that
<Begasus> almost 7PM here OscarL , so it's not yet tomorrow ;)
<prosy> Begasus: thx a lot! found profile-file in /boot/system/etc
<OscarL> prOSy: As I understand it... bash has two "modes": login and interactive. Haiku's terminal spawns bash as a login shell ("bash -l"), and those read the "profile" file, as Begasus mentions.
AlienSoldier has joined #haiku
<OscarL> the interactive one (the one used in terminal emulators on Linux, for example) reads "bashrc".
<Begasus> added an alias there to fetch upstream and push origin to keep my fork in sync :)
<Begasus> and the one for windows OscarL ?
<OscarL> prOSy: On my "profile", I've just added "source ~/config/settings/bashrc" :-D
<Begasus> haven't really looked at it but would be nice to be able to use it here also
<OscarL> Begasus: dunno, never used bash on Windows. There I rely on plain old cmd.exe + the ultra-awesome "clink": https://github.com/chrisant996/clink/
<OscarL> (plus the old, but still useful GoW: https://github.com/bmatzelle/gow/
<Begasus> git works pretty fine in powershell
<prosy> OscarL: sounds crazy :-D but... no workflow is as good as the own one ;-)
<Begasus> have been pushing smaller PR here for quite some time
<Begas_VM> Warning: POLICY ERROR: "/packaging/libktorrent_x86/lib/x86/libKF5Torrent.so.6" needs library "libKF5WindowSystem.so.5", but the package doesn't seem to declare that as a requirement ... tss :P
MajorBiscuit has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<OscarL> prOSy: there's a reason for the madness! :-D. If you call "bash" from your already running bash, you'll get the "interactive" one... so... that's a way to make sure both modes use the same "rc".
<OscarL> ah.... maybe you were referring to my crazy "cmd.exe + clink + gow" instead.... yeah.... that one's crazy :-)(
<OscarL> (clink auto-complete kick-ass, tough)

<OscarL> Begas_VM: Aaaannd.... that's reason 4687876 of why I stay shy of recipes with long dependencies :-)
<Begas_VM> I already added that to libktorrent (in haikuports already) in BUILD_REQUIRES as cmake errored out on it
<Begas_VM> it's one of those recipes using boost during build but not for runtime
<Begas_VM> still wonder why that one is using python though (didn't see it being used)
<Begas_VM> (remove cmakecache from build, disably python in the recipe ... checking)
<Begas_VM> k, not used during build (nothing got rebuild after disabling it)
<Begas_VM> and it still had cmd:python2 in there :D
<OscarL> uff "cmd:python2"
<OscarL> just saw that :-D
<Begas_VM> upped it here to python3, no complaints, but not used
<OscarL> I freed 1.5 GB worth of "work-*/sources" yesterday, and I haven't worked on THAT much recipes in the last 6 months... Wonder what Begasus's main "haikuports" folder weights by now :-D
<Begasus> lol
<Begasus> I "try" to clean up after myself, but sometimes yes, a few GB's need cleaning
<Begasus> cleaning work dir for texlive alone took over a day ;)
<OscarL> I added some helper functions to my profile/bashrc, so I hopefully will keep it neater in the future :-)
<OscarL> oh, I CAN believe that! deleting files is SLOOOOOW.

BrunoSpr has quit [Quit: Vision[]: Ich wurde verwaschen!]
<Begas_VM> not top quality but it didn't crash (hickups in playback)
<OscarL> BrunoSpr: you here? Just in case... the setting you should change in QMPlay2 is in: Settings->Modules, select "Extensions" to the left, and then, on the right... change "Preferred quality" to the lowest possible, and try again. You can also try setting "Preferred video codec" to "H.264".
<OscarL> Gahh!! he just left :-(
<Begas_VM> nice .... grabbing libktorrent_x86-20.11.80-1-x86_gcc2.hpkg and moving it to /boot/home/haikuports/packages/libktorrent_x86-20.11.80-1-x86_gcc2.hpkg
<Begas_VM> whoot! even stereo here on the laptop :D
<OscarL> Welp, FWIW, using the lower settings (480p, H.264, really small video playback window), even my lowly Atom N450 (with HT disabled) seems to be able to "play" videos from youtube.
<OscarL> (out of sync, but...)
<OscarL> No Carcass? SHAME! :-P

<Begas_VM> hehe

<OscarL> Mmm, but my install here is 64 bits, and that's somewhat faster than the 32 one so... wonder if that combo (slow CPU + slower binaries) is what's tripping Bruno's case.
<Begasus> I could check that tomorrow :) (64bit)
FreeFull has joined #haiku
<OscarL> It works on this old thing in 64 bits, and does even better on faster hardware. I wonder if Bruno could try the 64 bits on his machine to see if it helps.
<OscarL> I've tested the 32 bits version, but on "faster" (than this old netbook) hardware, it worked fo me too, so...
<OscarL> And we still don't even have details about his machine's specs to compare. /me's about to "throw the towel" on this one.
