So I was wondering, is DP Alt Mode that hard to implement in Linux everywhere or the problem is specific to Mx apple chips?

Also I don't see why device manufacturers cannot just stick regular DP port onto the device instead of using USB-C port. Wouldn't it be much easier?

I'm not sure if Apple has *ever* used a full-sized DisplayPort connector on a laptop, they used "Mini DisplayPort" (initially proprietary, then added to the standard)

Stardust: anyway, I think the problem is that Linux drivers are currently making a pile of assumptions about how different chips (like the USB-PD controller, USB controller, display controller) work together that is not true on modern Macs
