Hey, I just installed beta 3 on my new desktop and I'm having two issues: (1) The installation is not self-bootable; I have to use the install USB to boot it (the system is EFI-based). (2) I get no graphics from the AMD Radeon RX 570 graphics card unless I enable the fallback graphics driver.
<Halian>
Specs: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X CPU, MSI B550-A PRO motherboard, 16 GB RAM, 480 GB SATA SSD + 1 TB NVMe SSD for Linux + 8 TB HDD for data, AMD Radeon RX 570 GPU.

It's almost 5 AM here, so I sadly need to go to bed, but please do mention or /query me if you can help with the above issues. :)

Halian: You need to manually create a small FAT32 partition for EFI on your hard disk and copy the contents from the install USB sticks EFI partition to it.The installer can only automatically setup BIOS but not EFI yet.

So if anyone is around, I wanted to report that the Haiku images on the site are not bootable. I've tried everything from torrenting them to different mirrors and none of them boot correctly.
Uityyy has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<nephele>
which?
<nephele>
the beta3 definetely boots for me
<KatEMT>
All of them, 64-bit and 32-bit
<KatEMT>
Did you do it from a USB drive or disk?
<KatEMT>
I only tried USB
<nephele>
usb
<KatEMT>
Yeah, I've tried numerous times and all they do is make my computer reboot. It sits at the Haiku boot screen for a few seconds and the computer reboots
<KatEMT>
And I "burned" them with the recommended program... Balena Etcher
<nephele>
please report a ticket then :)
<KatEMT>
How do I go about that? Is that on the site?
<nephele>
not sure why that chromium app is recomended but okay, it should not matter. bug reports are on https://dev.haiku-os.org
<augiedoggie>
patch looks trivial enough but i don't have time right now
<augiedoggie>
at least for the x86_64 version, the x86 build failed for a different reason

<augiedoggie>
Halian: yeah, i have the same issues on my setup, it's fairly recent that it's been broken
<augiedoggie>
i have to use an older efi loader and i've blocked the radeon_hd driver from loading
<augiedoggie>
hopefully they'll both be fixed soon

augiedoggie: how do I block the radeon_hd driver permanently, so I don't have to mash the spacebar every time I boot Haiku? :P
<Halian>
(would also like to hear instructions for setting up your bootloader)
<jessicah>
if you know where you're installing to (e.g. /boot/system/non-packaged, or /boot/home/config/non-packaged), you can specify -p <install base>
<jessicah>
e.g. findpaths -p /boot/system/non-packaged B_FIND_PATH_DATA_DIRECTORY
<jessicah>
and those two non-packaged directories is your prefix, e.g. with configure

(AGMS) Workaround - in src/system/boot/Jamfile change pei-i386 to elf32-i386 Makes the EFI bootloader unusable, but should let the build continue past the objcopy problem with pei-i386.
<B2IA>
(AGMS) By the way, pei-i386 is a version of Microsoft's Portable Executable file (from Windows NT days), which EFI boot BIOSes use.
<jessicah>
AGMS: you can specify which boot targets to use
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Nightly builds both BIOS and EFI.
<jessicah>
HAIKU_BOOT_TARGETS=bios_ia32 jam ...
<jessicah>
should do the trick I think
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Well, will try that in the future, if the compile gets to the end in 32 bit with my hack.
<jessicah>
that will avoid the hack :)
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Or if it doesn't get to the end, I'll try it too :-)
<jessicah>
all the efi stuff will get skipped :)
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Thanks.
<B2IA>
(AGMS) And of course, it doesn't get to the end. fat_shell/dir.cpp has errors.
