Haiku Depot crashes on exit, x86
<andreasdr[m]>
:(
<LegendaryAmerican>
and I wonder if we arent getting into fix one thing break another.
<andreasdr[m]>
Naaaaaaaaaa.
bitigchi has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<waddlesplash>
LegendaryAmerican: nah, this turned silent brokenness into crashes. much better :)
<waddlesplash>
the crashes are assert failures, need to be investigated
<waddlesplash>
should not be so difficult to fix and should prevent other crashes
<andreasdr[m]>
:)
<LegendaryAmerican>
ok. I like that then.
<LegendaryAmerican>
(I have been looking at the fact.. mev is 30 percent by design towards a total daw. but most people would probably rather see reaper ported)
<LegendaryAmerican>
(I think mev would work better as a daw, once wave handling is plumbed in.. vst/au, 3d mix, and beae is brought into the system.)
<andreasdr[m]>
Whats mev?
<LegendaryAmerican>
but only some of these things have the same style interface. mev is built like a daw. those didnt exist when mev was created)
<LegendaryAmerican>
its a midi sequencer for haiku, originally the beos.
<LegendaryAmerican>
a lot of sequencer design ethos went into daw creation.
<LegendaryAmerican>
youd have to run some daws to see what I mean. there are some daws which look nothing like "a daw" either. but mev and reaper look similar..
<LegendaryAmerican>
except mev, pretty much follows most all be/haiku os deisgn.
<waddlesplash>
what about Sequitur
<LegendaryAmerican>
(gonna have to do something once R1 Haiku is out. because there is a lot of systems thatll lose windows support soon. a bucket ton.
<LegendaryAmerican>
about sequitur? it is tricky to work with. perhaps it was designed by the arp team for a keyboarder turbo dude..
<LegendaryAmerican>
its closer in some ways to a daw. but.. I think its absolutly frustrating with a mouse.
<LegendaryAmerican>
dont get me wrong. arp and mev team are absolutly musical people.
<LegendaryAmerican>
The only difference in reaper is you can dock or float windows.
<LegendaryAmerican>
its a lot to add to take something like mev to the level of reaper. the only advantage is everything would be native, and you could add the ability to take your reaper project over to haiku with its daw and work on it there and export back
<andreasdr[m]>
Do you have a link handy?
<LegendaryAmerican>
dont get me wrong. thats huge.
<LegendaryAmerican>
what. for reaper?
<andreasdr[m]>
Mev!
vdamewood has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<LegendaryAmerican>
its a midi sequencer. but like I said, it looks flat daw looking
<LegendaryAmerican>
like I said, its about 30 percent to a completed daw, using this source development path
<andreasdr[m]>
Ok
<andreasdr[m]>
Are you a developer?
<andreasdr[m]>
Just asking. Sorry, you do not need to answer.
<LegendaryAmerican>
not by profession. I helped development of some projects in early alpha late beos.
<andreasdr[m]>
Cool.
<LegendaryAmerican>
daws typically deal with three things. midi, audio and routing a whole slough of tools to a whole slough of other tools.
<andreasdr[m]>
And do you plan to work on MeV If I may ask=
<andreasdr[m]>
?
<LegendaryAmerican>
(would be sick to be able to get 3dMix to speak back and forth to MeV.. )
<LegendaryAmerican>
sorry, Im a musician. work with mev? yes. work on it? I have little programming skills
<LegendaryAmerican>
to say I helped with some projects.. I was told "change this line to read so and so" and so I did.. and told the programmer what happened
<andreasdr[m]>
Ah Ok. I see.
<LegendaryAmerican>
querant/researcher process
<LegendaryAmerican>
I was q/r processor for dockbert and beae's predecessor
<andreasdr[m]>
:)
<LegendaryAmerican>
thats well beyond tester. seeing internet changed the paradigm for programming.. people could collaborate in RT
<LegendaryAmerican>
I wish I had time to do q/r processing again. Im working on that.. my job changed so Im trying to adjust things
<LegendaryAmerican>
but.. yes. q/r processing would help haiku greatly. because the beae and dockbert developer flew through.
<LegendaryAmerican>
or they did. sorry.
<LegendaryAmerican>
two different guys I think
<LegendaryAmerican>
because its a progammer operating as querant, telling researcher, try this, and he does.. compiles and gives info right back. he is likely doing the same thing on his end.
<LegendaryAmerican>
it reverses however and the querant becomes the researcher and visa versa, hence the name for the process.
<LegendaryAmerican>
I remember asking (is there a way to add this so and so), and so I became querant.
<LegendaryAmerican>
I spell it querant, to not confuse it with astrology.. its the same thing. tomato tomatoe, isofar as what it means. one queries, one researches. then they obviously switch in places.
<LegendaryAmerican>
Its known to science and business, economics and other disciplines.. its not articulated very well
<LegendaryAmerican>
anyhow. gtg to bed. work calls tomorrow.
<LegendaryAmerican>
thanks

(We saw how haiku people could have a real advantage over Mac, MSFT, and Linux programmers because they can't utilize Q/R process.. and Linux people don't use it I don't have the foggiest reason why they dont.. as commercial projects come off a fork)
<andreasdr[m]>
So this is for running apps with GLES2 and GLES3?
<andreasdr[m]>
and such?
<Begasus>
k, gegl seems to be ok now on 32bit
<x512[m]>
OpenGL itself have no API for creating context, swap buffers etc.. So platform extensions like GLX, WGL etc are traditionally used. EGL provides OpenGL platform abstraction so no platform API is needed.
<andreasdr[m]>
Ok.

In theory WGL is easier to maintain and make feature complete compared to HGL (Haiku GL, BGLView class).

ho that is trippy: take an about window (web+ or Vision) and try to move it to another workspace with the workspace app while in another workspace. It create a whole bunch of app server clipping weirdness
<AlienSoldier>
exactly at the same position as the about window stayed in his originale loocation in the former workspace

The haiku about window does not do this.
<nephele>
the haiku about window is a normal window for window feel iirc
<nephele>
about windows of apps normally have a different window feel set
<AlienSoldier>
i guess it is ok that they are not possible to drag outside of their current screen but then they should not be able to allow garbled screen.
<AlienSoldier>
Not that i see a reason why they should not be dragable anywere.
<nephele>
garbled screen should be reported on the bugtracker indeed :)
<nephele>
There are different feels for windows that control this, wherher they are apropriate here is one question, but they should not be broken ideally
<AlienSoldier>
At least, when i move the app around instead of the about window, everything behave correctly.
<AlienSoldier>
i mean moving the app while the about window is visible.
<AlienSoldier>
the about window then disapear and reapear in the proper workspace without garbleling
<AlienSoldier>
humm, vlc is interesting, it allow 2 about window if the display is in a certain workspace but the control window is in another.

when dragin mediaplayer and vlc out of their workspace, the two have different behavior for artefact.
<AlienSoldier>
vlc screen always leave a trace while mediaplayer don't leave his screen or position cursor when on pause (it then only let his vu meter).
<AlienSoldier>
that is quite an old mediaplayer bug
<AlienSoldier>
i think as old as when skippy added the vu meter to what was an identical copy of R5 mediaplayer

QMPLAY2 seem to let no artefact when going out of workplace when on pause. It does when playing
