<rennj> only qnx and amigaxl was only product i know using qnx not in cars
<rennj> qnx amigaxl with uae-jit
<rennj> amigaxl / amithlon was on the market maybe 1 month before lawsuits
<rennj> https://imgur.com/B25qqT3 amiga 4000 68040 AGA
<ablyss> i ran a webserver off neutrino for a wee bit.
<rennj> wait thats fs-uae not amigaxl/qnx
<rennj> https://imgur.com/kFcN3sD thats amigaxl in qnx/vmware
<rennj> my fs-uae vm running amigaos3.9 is faster than my vmware vm running qnx uae-jit amiga
<rennj> but only by 200K or so..according to sysinfo
<rennj> funny thing is qnx and amigaxl is failed product..you need software companion cdrom of qnx gnu foo..for proper intstall
<ablyss> you run vmware off sdd or in a ram only?
<rennj> it was failed product out the door..cause it was missing software
<rennj> i run a ramos
<rennj> 350MB.iso loads into ram on boot
<rennj> comes with glibc,x11,vmware
<ablyss> nice

<rennj> used
<ablyss> all that on a raspberry?

<rennj> no amd 4 core laptop from 2015
<rennj> 4core/4thread amd apu
<rennj> 16GB ram, 500GB sata ssd
<rennj> i was ahead of the time
<rennj> 8core/40GB next laptop/craptop
<rennj> been looking at the 8core ryzen 5900 craptop lately
<rennj> 40GB of ram..haha
<rennj> 32GB and 8GB

<ablyss> hmm i feel lazy now :P
<rennj> 2005 or so when i started building my own os
<rennj> sick of the bloat code
<rennj> plus linux had sucked in enough unix features by then
<rennj> xfs.lvm being big ones
<ablyss> i just glad my system boots... i ripped off PCIe slot from mobo, but not sure... bios has a mind of its own ever since i started using clear os
<rennj> intel clear os probably spyware
<rennj> you love the dbus/etc/machine-id
<rennj> you know firefox/chrome check hostid/machine-id besides ip
<rennj> GUID/UUID is unique and your ip
<rennj> you are being tracked on linux
<rennj> big time
<x512[m]> IP can be hidden with router NAT.
<ablyss> they can spy on me if they want. I smile and wink ;-)
<x512[m]> It will get something like 192.168.1.1
<rennj> the uuid is checked on launch
<rennj> chrome and firefox both do it
<rennj> hostid/machine-id is old tech....
<rennj> my sun box had hostid burned on eeprom
<rennj> running a local lan is one thing
<ablyss> hopefully some hot cute blonde spying on me... :D
<rennj> having every box on internet with hostid is another
<rennj> i dont like the tracking tech being built into things...
<rennj> linux / redhat/ freedesktop has it built it
<rennj> linux / redhat/ freedesktop has it built in

<ablyss> espOS just bypass the server and download the data telepathically ;P

<rennj> i been bitching about this for years..someday it will make the news..the polkit setuid 12 year old hole is laughable
<rennj> fusermount fuse you know that setuid is just waiting
<rennj> setuid are gaping holes
<rennj> always been that way..even before linux
<rennj> dd ufsdump on solaris...and /etc/shadow /etc/passwd

<ablyss> i never leave the house... not much to track
<ablyss> an on averag I reinstall clear OS about once or twice a week cause of kernel panic or some lame crap
<rennj> devuan addressed the machine-id / dbus issue
<rennj> only distro i know that did it
<rennj> generate new one on each boot..rather than have initial install UUID
<rennj> all the other linux distro's and you being tracked by firefox/chrome since they read that file on launch..each time
<rennj> uuid and ip in unique info
<rennj> uuid and ip is unique info
<ablyss> there's a cute blond on the other side tracking me... so no worries

<AlienSoldier> *is it
<ablyss> yes
<AlienSoldier> ablyss i got a free harmon kardan double tape deck from 1988 and with it a big box full of hi quality mix tape of 80's music. I decided to keep most of those and identify a lot of those with blank insert. I find a lot of cool stuff i never heard about :)
<AlienSoldier> would be funny if i find some of elfman stuff in this.
<ablyss> that would cool. I have something similar from my grandmother.. a big 3x3 ft box of tapes
<AlienSoldier> With the auto reverse feature you can get quite a long sequence of playtime
<AlienSoldier> Currently i have set it up with my C64 and use it when i have a game with only soundfx
<ablyss> also have a dragon nautrally speaking digital recorder that doesn't work haha
<AlienSoldier> i have a big pile of thing that do not work, some time i pick something from the pile and fix it. My amiga monitor got to that pile last month :(
<AlienSoldier> i don't have digital recorder (always wanted one). I have an old olympus mini tape one i need to repair as the belt decomposed into a goo.
<AlienSoldier> my "new" tape deck is good for that, only gears so no belt problem ever.

<jenna16bit> I got some minidiscs like that, sold as blank but had star wars episode two audio books on them.
<jenna16bit> Definitely dissapointed
<AlienSoldier> i also have my first mp3 player (a Muvo creative) that took a lot of abuse. I still think to fix it. Right now the sound is muffled. I gess a laminated capacito must have cracked. I guess i should put it to my variable power supply and crank it a bit over 1.5V to see if i can get good sound again.
<AlienSoldier> i still look for a free minidisc system from time to time. i know there was one in town at one point as i played with it. Who know who have it now.
<AlienSoldier> so much things are trashed now that many would still love :(. At least i finally go a 16x9 HD CRT. I sure was lucky to find one locally, did not wanted to pay transportation for that :)

<AlienSoldier> panasonic did reliable stuff. i have very little from them that said. Always wanted one of their CRT for the "game mode" feature (nice way to disable in one go any postprocessing crap)
<AlienSoldier> But the crt's i always wanted were the Bang & Olufsen (or at least those that do not look to be comming from an 80's scifi movie).
<ablyss> i had still have some NEC speakers tied into a pansonic stereo. sound really good but creature roar is really nice
<ablyss> creature/creative
<AlienSoldier> I have that NEC https://www.pinterest.ca/pin/533606255826393711/ but the speakers are no longer in enclosure (i have to make some for them and change the foam) I also have the tape deck and the vinyle player for it.
<AlienSoldier> Curently i have it set up with a pair of cheap kenwood speakers i got for 2$ that happen to be my second prefered speakers of all time. I tell you, speakers desing seem to be pure luck.
<AlienSoldier> Audio system is something i should collect more. Like old tools, those never really become obsolete.

<augiedoggie> repetitivestrain: i was removing some requirements from the haikuports recipe for emacs but i'm running into some crashes and strange behavior with specific fonts/weights
<augiedoggie> it appears the weight for some fonts isn't parsed properly, i see odd menu entries like "Demilight" and "Semibold", yes with a "D"
<augiedoggie> instead of the usual semi-bold and stuff

<Vitto> Hello
<choulth> Hi Vitto
<Vitto> How are you?
<choulth> Fine thanks, how are you?
<Vitto> Pretty good
<Vitto> I'm testing Haiku in a VM, pretty impressive the concision of this OS
<choulth> Yeah i am in VM ware as well at the moment
<Vitto> Having some trouble with the SoftwareUpdater
<choulth> Does it crash once in a while?
<Vitto> It hangs most of the time at contacting server or valifdating checksum
<Vitto> is the update server crowded or something like this?
<choulth> No idea, worked well for me about 20 minutes ago
<Vitto> it may be the network connection of my vm that is unstable
<Vitto> for you, it works fine each time you launch it?
<choulth> yes
<choulth> how many processors do you emulate? 1 or 2?
<Vitto> I started with 2 and 4GB of RAM, bu as it's a lightweight and fast OS I downsized it to 1 proc and 2GB
<Vitto> to leave more room to other vms/host OS (fedora silverblue)
<choulth> Yeah i go with 1 processor and 4GB of RAM as well
<Vitto> do you have any guess of how I could debug my softwareupdate hang problem?
<Vitto> when I launch a browser or mail it works just fine
<Vitto> so a priori it's not the network connection
<choulth> Let me just check if update in terminal works better
<choulth> So if you open the Terminal and do a "pkgman update"
<Vitto> yeah, just found this. Not better here
<choulth> look if that works for you
<Vitto> also stalled
<Vitto> hmmm
<Vitto> better
<choulth> Mmh, strange. As i said, i had about the same this morning with my installation. I reinstalled and now it works quite well...
<Vitto> it finally worked
<choulth> Ok good, maybe a hickup with the server
<Vitto> I think I have a wrong repo address
<Vitto> will check that

<Vitto> opening it via browser works flawlessly
<choulth> yeah i use the same servers
