<Vidrep_64>
AlienSoldier, did you see the flashing on some websites I was talking about the other day?
<waddlesplash>
yes, known thing with new webkit
<waddlesplash>
there's already a ticket
<Vidrep_64>
waddlesplash, I'm aware of the ticket, but not everyone has seen the issue
<waddlesplash>
ah
<Vidrep_64>
Other than the flashing and downloads problem, the browser is working reasonably well
<AlienSoldier>
Vidrep_64 not on the 1.8 i have
<Vidrep_64>
You're still using an older hrev, are you?
<AlienSoldier>
haikuwebkit 1.9 is not yet available for 32bit
<Vidrep_64>
Ah, ok
<Vidrep_64>
I closed the last couple of my open tickets for WebPositive the other day
<Vidrep_64>
I'm still waiting for a fix to one of the apps I sometimes use - StreamRadio
<Vidrep_64>
AlienSoldier, are you using 32 bit because of compatibility with some closed source BeOS apps?
<AlienSoldier>
no, because i still have many P4 computer, most of my computers i use are 32bit
<Vidrep_64>
Legacy computing
<AlienSoldier>
i call those computer that still work :)
<AlienSoldier>
don't talk, you have a GM astro (do you?)
<Vidrep_64>
Lol, yeah
<AlienSoldier>
hehe, i have an S10 blaszer (88)
<Vidrep_64>
It's falling apart
<AlienSoldier>
mine is starting to rust on the bottom, but it is otherwise super clean
<AlienSoldier>
will eventually redo it in fiberglass
<Vidrep_64>
AWD/4x4 ?
<AlienSoldier>
yes
<Vidrep_64>
Super handy in our climate
<AlienSoldier>
yep, i closed my summer gouse with it and i got away in 1.5 feet of snow with no problem.
<AlienSoldier>
&house
<AlienSoldier>
got 2 new zip 100 disc today, it is rare that i still find some
<Vidrep_64>
I can't live without a AWD vehicle. I'm buying another one on Friday. It will be Astro/Safari #5
<AlienSoldier>
also got around 100 floppy of all kind of brand (my amigas are the floppy cookie monster)
<AlienSoldier>
i also have a subary legacy 4x4
<Vidrep_64>
I have a bunch of floppies, but no drive. I should find a way to archive the contents
<AlienSoldier>
now i really need to fix my amiga monitor
<Vidrep_64>
I tossed most of my older PC's a few years ago.
<Vidrep_64>
I still keep a few around for testing Haiku
<AlienSoldier>
i keep a lot of them because each have an associated project. I could probably all do that with raspberry but i will have to startover a lot of things and i already have the PCs
<AlienSoldier>
yes, a lot is to test haiku also. I started to collect all kind of cards

<Anarchos>
Halian|Haiku the win key acts like a modifier too
<Halian|Haiku>
Anarchos: oh nice! unfortunately that doesn't include all the characters I need (like n, r-, s-, and z-hacek) ^^;

Morning da_snowbird
<Anarchos>
hello da_snowbird
<da_snowbird>
everyone doing alright today?
<Halian|Haiku>
I know I am
<Halian|Haiku>
Is there a way to access Discord in Haiku? None of the browsers I kow of on the OS play well with it; same with Guilded.
<da_snowbird>
Does Epiphany not run discord? I've been able to do pretty much every website with it
<da_snowbird>
might be a tad laggy though
<andreasdr[m]>
Good morning
<Halian|Haiku>
I haven't tried it yet
<da_snowbird>
I got it from 3deye's LOTE repo (haikuware.ru) and it's pretty much my exclusive browser now
<da_snowbird>
runs mastodon and new reddit fine
<Halian|Haiku>
Sick
<Halian|Haiku>
:/ at the repo being .ru because of current events though lol
<da_snowbird>
yeah, deffo puts me off of it but tbf it existed before the russian war of aggression
<Halian|Haiku>
Fair enough
<Halian|Haiku>
I also don't see any Zs anywhere so :P
x10z has quit [Quit: My MacBook has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…]
<da_snowbird>
definitely a good sign when dealing with .ru sites.
<Halian|Haiku>
^
<Halian|Haiku>
also, Epiphany seems to be in the main repos anymore
<da_snowbird>
I saw where they were talking about putting it in the main repos, didn't know if they'd done it yet
<da_snowbird>
Falkon was my go-to too for a while. The webkit thread crashes get annoying but can be ignored. I got covid back in January and spent the week using Haiku on an old Macbook and the crashes got vaguely annoying after a while.
<da_snowbird>
so far very few crashes from epiphany. usually just a single tab
<Halian|Haiku>
Nice
<Halian|Haiku>
Would that it played nicely with Haiku's shortcuts but eh, can't have everything
<da_snowbird>
much, much less rendering issues. every site I've tried looks the same as in Firefox on linux. and yeah, it's got a few haiku integration issues but some of that is because its using wayland-server as middleware so that can be tweaked and iterated on as time goes on
<da_snowbird>
we can only get better from here :)

Were I to find a djinn, one of my wishes would be a faithful Haiku port of Firefox :P
<da_snowbird>
just super stoked by all the usuability progress that the devs have made here since I was using haiku back in January.
<Halian|Haiku>
:D
* Halian|Haiku
is looking forward to beta 4
<da_snowbird>
oh yeah, I got as far as cloning the hg repo for firefox before the power went out at the office and I never got back to it. I know there would be an astronomical amount of work involved in porting FF to haiku but it would be cool to have it again after all these years. I'd really like to see Seamonkey since it takes me back to the mozilla suite days
<Halian|Haiku>
*nodnod*
<Halian|Haiku>
(and for me the Opera 9-12 days before it became yet another Chromium fork)
<da_snowbird>
oh yes definitely. opera was my first browser on linux, back when I had secondhard thriftstore hardware and damn small linux
<Halian|Haiku>
:D
* Halian|Haiku
's first Linux was Red Hat 7.2, running on an HP Vectra VLi in 2003
<da_snowbird>
oh wow, I had a Vectra VL as well, not sure if it was and i or not. Love some horizontal computers designed for the monitor to go on top. I found a 533mhz Celeron and swapped it into mine for that extra performance
<Halian|Haiku>
I miss pizza box computers dearly
<Anarchos>
Halian|Haiku i don't miss my sparc 5 pizza box ...
<Halian|Haiku>
Mine has a 500 MHz PIII, 384 MB RAM, and a 20 GB HDD when I got it; when I got rid of it, it had a 120 GB HDD
<da_snowbird>
same here. that was my favorite form factor.
<Halian|Haiku>
Anarchos: why not?
* Halian|Haiku
wants to get a pizza box UNIX workstation. also one of the pizza-box VAXen

<Anarchos>
Halian|Haiku it was way too slow
<Halian|Haiku>
Ah, fair enough
<Anarchos>
da_snowbird i dream to develop haiku on a sparc hardware :)
* phschafft
pets his alpha, also thinks about that pdp 8 in the other building. ;)
* Anarchos
is struggling to get gs working
<Halian|Haiku>
phschafft: *drools*
<Anarchos>
phschafft wow pdp 8. might be expensive in electricity bill ><
<Halian|Haiku>
The PiDP-8 is a neat-looking project
<da_snowbird>
Haiku on Sparc would be cool. and the main reason I don't run this one is just electricity and sound. they're not quiet
<phschafft>
sadly no longer any sparcs over here.
* Halian|Haiku

<phschafft>
actually the bills are expensive, but for reasons of the food cooling for our cats.
<Halian|Haiku>
Noob question: how do I change the default browser?
<Anarchos>

Anarchos: no dice
<da_snowbird>
it worked for me Anarchos but there is definitely a delay before it opens
<Anarchos>
da_snowbird what worked ?
<Halian|Haiku>
It won't let me set Web as the preferred application for HTML files
<da_snowbird>
changing the preference in Filetypes, although I also changed the handler for HTTP and HTTPS urls
<da_snowbird>
I had to go select gnome web manually by finding it in /system/apps
<Anarchos>
Halian|Haiku no idea then
<Halian|Haiku>
da_snowbird: that's what I did for HTTP and HTTPS; when attempting to do it for HTML, the preferred application doesn't budge from "None"
<da_snowbird>
that's interesting. on looking, it appears changing I didn't even change it for HTML.
<da_snowbird>
so the HTTP/S should work enough to get links to open with Epiphany
<Halian|Haiku>
It spawns a whole new process instead of a new tab in the same process
<Halian|Haiku>
Discord works in Epiphany but is slow; that's probably due to graphics driver screwery?
* Halian|Haiku

anyone know why python3.9 seems to be having trouble finding setuptools? I've installed it from HaikuDepot and pip seems to find it, but am I missing something? I'm trying to get pyside6 to build and install

trying to build something in Qt Creator using python

also upgrading packages through pip still seems a bit clunky, due to the nature of read-only packagefs

Check which repos you pull from (r1beta4 or master).... r1beta3 is becoming outdated.
<PulkoMandy>
da_snowbird, pip is supposed to install packages in a writable location, if you use the one installed from haikudepot it should be patched for that (unless the patch got broken in a python update). It of course can't uninstall the things you installed as packages
<da_snowbird>
that's kind of what I was thinking, I'm using the pip from haikudepot for python3.9. I also installed setuptools for py3.9 from depot as well. I'll try a reinstall of both and see.

'pkgman full-sync' cleanly update? Is this r1b4-TC0 or nightly hrev56621?
<bbjimmy>
nightly hrev56621
<bbjimmy>
x86_64
<cocobean>
Some of the GNOME libs have a legacy 'gdk-pixbuf' loader cache type manual update you have to do when you update them.
<cocobean>
(or postinstaller)
<bbjimmy>
pkgman full-sync is updating to hrev56627
<bbjimmy>
ome of the GNOME libs have a legacy 'gdk-pixbuf' loader cache type manual update you have to do when you update them. ??? wjhat does this even mean?
<bbjimmy>
*what
<cocobean>
You have to run a script (gdk-pixbuf or similar) to get it to clean out its cache... kinda like fontconfig....
<cocobean>
Just mightbe the issue here (or not)
<cocobean>
Epiphany was working fine on x64.
<bbjimmy>
gdk-pixbuf: No such file or directory

what script?

<bbjimmy>
wheree is it? it isn't in the path, bash can'r find it.
<cocobean>
Check your setup with 'gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders'
<cocobean>
First.... do you have 'gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders'
<bbjimmy>
there is no gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders
<bbjimmy>
ok I ran gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders I have ni idea where it is, but it ran. no change
<cocobean>
Ok.... I ran Epiphany here on x86... the file monitor issue don't matter (but there are some libs not loading properly)..... still works here on x86.
<cocobean>
So... I need to relook at what you posted.
<da_snowbird>
the exact issue has a fix in the Wayland thread and also maybe the Epiphany thread
<bbjimmy>
it was in /boot/system/bin I just didn't see it
<da_snowbird>
like the command you can just copy/paste
<cocobean>
Ok... it seems it is the MIME database and gdk-pixbuf... like I thought...
<cocobean>
Need to clean out the files in config dir.
<cocobean>
(non-packaged dirs)
<cocobean>
then run the script (this might fix it).... or call 3Deyes!
<bbjimmy>
"/boot/home/config/settings/epiphany" is empty
