<Anarchos>
Begasus: sure, but i don't know how to use haiku bootloader to boot ubuntu
<Begasus>
install grub to partition instead of MBR Anarchos?
<Anarchos>
Begasus: that is exactly what i did
<Anarchos>
Begasus: haiku bootloader (stage 1) is in MBR and it chain-loads grub on the partition which launches ubuntu
<Anarchos>
i just wonder if haiku bootloader could boot directly ubuntu , suppressing the need of grub ?

For mbr/bios boot linux needs "a" bootloader. either grub or lilo, you can chainload this from haikus multiboot menu, but not from irs bootloader
<nephele_xmpp>
for efi linux (the kernel) can be booted directly from the firmware withour grub2 or gummiboot, however haikus bootloader does not boot efi executables, but something like refind does
<Anarchos>
nephele_xmpp: ok that makes sense. My setup is bios.
<nephele_xmpp>
You can use haikus bootloade menu then, and for linux lilo. or chainload grub from haikus boot menu (but grub or lilo need to be installed in the linux partition for this to work)

<jmairboeck>
Hi Begasus! I'm just mostly reading recipes on Github now and write a few comments here and there, don't have much time lately for actual Haiku work ;)
<Begasus>
PulkoMandy mentioned it earlier in the forum, not much progress I'm afraid
<Begasus>

<jmairboeck>
or I'm occupied with the difficult ones like guile last weekend
<Begasus>
bugger, should disable that: HAVE_KUNIFIEDPUSH
<Begasus>
is that solved now jmairboeck?
<jmairboeck>
no, during the week I get to nothing really
<jmairboeck>
I'll resume that on the weekend
<Begasus>
bugger, on 32bit I had errors building gnucash, so gave up (with the old guile)
<BrunoSpr>
ok, if there is no work on sound over hdmi... is there work on sound over Display Port then?
<Begasus>
not that I'm that much waiting on it, even got Skrooge up and running (without a recipe at haikuports)
<jmairboeck>
I hope Haiku still runs after the VirtualBox update this week ... the Windows VMs still run at least.
<BrunoSpr>
I just bought a Creative Sound Blaster Life! some years ago to get sound on HAIKU, but with Beta 5 it is not working anymore...

<BrunoSpr>
strange thing goind on with Sound on Haiku
<BrunoSpr>
ah ok
<NaGERST>
Begasus: i have a soundblaster live 512 and a 1024 both works on my xeon system, but they are emu10k. perhaps you got a V version later called audigy
<NaGERST>
and the dreamblaster (belgian product) works rather well.
<Begasus>
think it's the later version, haven't opened that PC in years :D
<jmairboeck>
I found it a bit weird that openSUSE updates VBox to 7.1.4 as a security update from 7.0.18. I thought Leap was supposed to be "stable".
<Begasus>
was pretty good supported back then
<jmairboeck>
now it looks weird because of Qt 6, and I'm still running Plasma 5 as the desktop
<BrunoSpr>
Waddlesplash is working on the Ralink WIFI driver so I have hope it will work soon... But still: EHCI errors
<Begasus>
mixed up then jmairboeck
<NaGERST>
best sound card for beos is and will always be the Dell version of the Vortex2 with a dreamblaster. Positional audio works, perfect compatibility with everything. The dell version was square black and had gold plated 3.5 in/outputs

<Begasus>

<jmairboeck>
Begasus: regarding plasma 6, I could add the backports repositories, but would have to update everything from Qt onwards. The Qt 6 in the default repos is too old for the current plasma.
<jmairboeck>
so I think I'll just wait for Leap 16.0 next year ;)
<NaGERST>
Nah to be real, i am on debian right now and there is no kde6/plasma6 over here in debian land even on sid or experimental. It arrives when it does.
<Begasus>
can't get libplasma up and running for obvious reason, but atleast a few of those framework are up and running on Haiku with Qt6
<NaGERST>
i will never install a fixed release OS for the rest of my life.
<Begasus>
but yeah, upstream is already looking into 6.8.1 and eyeing at 6.9
<NaGERST>
cool
<jmairboeck>
When I want KDE 6 apps, I can just use Haiku instead :)
<jmairboeck>
thanks Begasus for your work on that
<Begasus>
+1 and most just build out of the box :)
<Begasus>
diver extrowork 3dEyes et all did the groundwork :)
<NaGERST>
can you make a short video about kde6 and your impressions? Preferably 3d benchmarks between wayland and Xorg. When i am using the kms drivers on a amd card. yeah wayland underperforms massively.
<Begasus>
well ... not on Haiku :)
<NaGERST>
haha no of course not
<jmairboeck>
NaGERST: the Qt port on Haiku is "native" and doesn't use neither
<NaGERST>
qt6 is rather fancy though, it can morph to any style.
<Begasus>
and better split up then the all in one Qt5 package
<Begasus>
maybe you could tackle the qtwebengine for Qt6 NaGERST? seeing you are bored :P
<NaGERST>
Begasus: yup, since it would be nightmarish to have them both supported in a single package. and almost mastodont task
