Hah
<augiedoggie_>
the man package has a supplements entry for some reason
<OscarL>
why that makes it a "requirement" for locally installed packages, beats me.
<OscarL>
but thanks for the reminder about that supplements, augiedoggie_. Will file a ticket about this eventually.
* OscarL
is glad he found ".git/info/exclude", so he can ignore his .x86_64/.x86_32 "OUTPUT_DIRECTORY"s on the "combined" haikuports clone.
<OscarL>
that "SUPPLEMENTS_man" seems to have been there at least since 2017. I didn't had this issues on beta4, so I guess it became an issue after libsolv got "vendored in"?

Hello, everyone! I'm trying to create an account on Kaiku, but I'm having trouble.
<Guilherme[m]>
I tried entering several answers to the question "What is the name of the operating system?", including "Kaiku OS", "BeOS", "OpenBeOS" and "haiku", but none of them worked. I've already checked that there's no CAPTCHA and I don't know what else to try.
<Guilherme[m]>
Can anyone help me with this? Thanks!
<Begasus>
Kaiku?
<Begasus>
You know the OS is called "Haiku" right?
<Guilherme[m]>
Yes

So I guess you need to fill in "Haiku" then

Not "Kaniku" (first time I've seen this)

Well, now the problem is with the installation of Kaiku, because the iso image gives the bios_ia32 error that failed to load and the .image (made by building from source code) that the installer uses boots up the first screen that loads the components, and then when it's supposed to be the installer it just displays a screen with colored lines.
<Guilherme[m]>
*The screen showing that the components are loading is displayed without the Kaiku logo
<Monni>
it's normal that the Haiku logo doesn't show up when running recent revisions...
<Monni>
You might want to try different failsafe options from the bootloader...
<Guilherme[m]>
How I get to the bootloader before the installation start?
<MonniTheCat>
If fail-safe video driver alone doesn't work, then try disabling ACPI next... if that doesn't fix, it's better to try enabling debug output on screen...
<nephele_desktop>

I would imagine that would happen when deleting the array before deleting array elements...
<Skipp_OSX>
it's normal not to see the Haiku logo at startup if you're running a non-release build
<nephele_desktop>
if you compiled it yourself, yes.
<Skipp_OSX>
On the installer you can see it says "Thank you for trying out our operating system" instead of "Thank you for trying out Haiku"
<nephele_desktop>
Skipp_OSX: that is build without official branding
<Skipp_OSX>
correct
<nephele_desktop>
oh sorry, i thought you were asking a question :)
<nephele_desktop>
my bad
<Skipp_OSX>
I'm responding to Guilherme[m] and his videos
<MonniTheCat>
I get the Haiku logo when booting from hard disk and that's not release build...
<Skipp_OSX>
it's a nightly release
<MonniTheCat>
exactly same build from CD doesn't show Haiku logo though...
<Skipp_OSX>
hmmmmmmm
<nephele_desktop>
logo on boot depends on if the bootloader was build with branding, not haiku itself
<MonniTheCat>
same bootloader on both drives... I copied over all files from CD to hard disk...
<nephele_desktop>
Also created the gpt table or mbr table with the exact same haiku version etc?
<nephele_desktop>
and no other boot medium present?
<MonniTheCat>
No MBR on hard disk... GPT table was created with older Haiku version...
<nephele_desktop>
what about your efi loader then? also the other haiku version?
<MonniTheCat>
EFI loader I copied over from CD too...
<MonniTheCat>
Only thing I didn't overwrite was volume boot record...
<Skipp_OSX>
You're not supposed to be able to create a folder in Trash, but I fixed the "bug".
<nephele_desktop>
I think disabeling the option makes more sense
<nephele_desktop>
I'd rather not someoene accidentally clear the trash when trying to create a new folder, not connecting the dots they are in trash
<Skipp_OSX>
hmmmmmmm....
<Skipp_OSX>
it's meant to match what's in regular Tracker window
<Skipp_OSX>
So if you right click on Trash or go to Trash then File it has Empty Trash at the top
<nephele_desktop>
Hmm, yes you are right
<nephele_desktop>
on the other hand the new folder case is different in tracker
<nephele_desktop>
there it is a seperate menu New-> Folder
<nephele_desktop>
not a toplevel item
<secondcreek>
But what if I want to sort my trash into folders before emptying it? Like sorting your recycling :)
<nephele_desktop>
Restabfall
<secondcreek>
Plasstiktueten, metall, styropor...
<Skipp_OSX>
yeah on File Panels you only get New folder not the menu
<Skipp_OSX>
The idea is you're not supposed to be creating new files in File Panel but you might need a new folder to save your file in.
<nephele_desktop>
secondcreek: As someone who worked in trash disposal... "Alles in die 'Thermische Verwertung'"
<secondcreek>

<nephele_desktop>
Skipp_OSX: yeah, in this case this inconsistency might create a problem though, hmmm
<secondcreek>
heizkraftwerk.
<nephele_desktop>
I'm not going to object if you want to do this regardless, but still
<MonniTheCat>
There's actually people who hide explicit stuff in Trash, for them having "Empty Trash" can be seriously dangerous... Think about all the people who hid porn in Minox's BeShare server
<nephele_desktop>
also clearing the trash in the save menu seems a bit dangeous too
<nephele_desktop>
MonniTheCat: I don't think we need to optimize for that... just make a homework folder like everyone else ;)
<nephele_desktop>
Skipp_OSX: I think to resolve this I'd probably disable the item in the save dialog, and not add the clear trash item
<MonniTheCat>

skipp_osx: I see you are doing experiments with window tabs for web+... I am sometimes working on moving it to "tree tabs" i.e more like how vision works. Any thoughts on that?
<MonniTheCat>
We just prepended everything with it's byte length, so when someone tried to look at anything sus, normal software did only see NULL byte at front...
<Skipp_OSX>
You can't move tree tabs between window groups
<nephele_xmpp>
What's a window group?
<Skipp_OSX>
basically the experiment is to to be able to use the features of Stack & Tile more readily so you can more easily move (browser) windows in and out of stacks.
<Skipp_OSX>
a window group is a stack
<nephele_xmpp>
I don't see why you can't move a tree tab to another window
<nephele_xmpp>
not sure what you mean by moving it to a window group
<Skipp_OSX>
detach it from one stack and attach to another.
<Skipp_OSX>
So you have 4 WebPostivie windows in one stack, and 3 in another, you can move one of the windows from the first stack to the second using Stack & Tile operations.
<nephele_desktop>
sure? what does that have to do with tree tabs?
<Skipp_OSX>
Well, unless I'm misunderstanding something tree tabs don't work with S&T, right?
<Skipp_OSX>
Like you can't move a tree tab from one stack to another.
Anarchos has joined #haiku
<nephele_desktop>
still not sure what you mean, those features don't relate to each other
<Skipp_OSX>
right, so I want them to relate to each other.
<nephele_desktop>
Well, I want tree tabs mostly because the in-window tabs work badly with content that isn't fixed in ammount
<nephele_desktop>
pref/appearence is a good usage of them. webpositive not so much
<nephele_desktop>
relation to stack and tile could work if you drag it out of the stack with super held
<nephele_desktop>
and then make this allow dropping to windows, or just drag it out?
<Skipp_OSX>
yeah either or
<Skipp_OSX>
drag the window out of the "tree" or into another "tree"
<nephele_desktop>
got Haiku now booted and installed on my macmini 2012
<nephele_desktop>
Wondering if we should either: Figure out what rEFInd does differently and do this or: just ship rEFInd with a Haiku theme
<nephele_desktop>
also maybe create a fat32 partition in the image mountable under macos that contains installation instructions (like how to resize the apfs container to make room and stuff)
<nephele_desktop>

Sometimes there is already several chained catch clauses, so by numbering the lines, I know which one was thrown...
