Hi. Got an error when installing gcc package under beta4. It fails with binutils dependency : *** failed to commit transaction: The to be activated package "binutils-2.31.1-2-x86_64.hpkg" does already exist.

but without the CRC checksums...well bios/hardware signals can corrupt data, let alone bit flips from cosmic rays
<jezek2>
hmm still not thrilled about haiku using package manager, uninstalling stuff doesn't uninstall dependencies + maybe the installation of dependencies could be more hidden from the user and treated as a single atomic unit including an overall download progress
<rennj>
i had 100drives corrupting data ...bad bios
<rennj>
firmware on drives was bad
<rennj>
and ZFS does away with fsck of crashed system

you can't install BootManager on a GPT drive
<waddlesplash>
so, either use GPT partitioning with EFI, or re-partition to Intel/MBR
<mooes>
I just struggled a bit when I was installing on the new ssd. eventually figured out these steps: 1) initialize disk with an intel partition table, 2) select the empty space, create new partition, and check 'active', 3) format as BFS, 4) then run installer and select the new partition as target

hknewbie: you don't need to build it yourself
<hknewbie>
and, well, even with the correct name, jam cant ifnd it
<waddlesplash>
it's available in the package repos
<waddlesplash>
pkgman in haiku_extras
<hknewbie>
waddlesplash: the repos one lacks the win decors
<waddlesplash>
they should probably be added
<hknewbie>
and mac
<hknewbie>
if it were an error on decors on startup, a script would fix it in the desktop
<hknewbie>
or just another boot entry
<waddlesplash>
hknewbie: works fine here
<waddlesplash>
jam -q haiku_extras.hpkg
<hknewbie>
uh
<waddlesplash>
anyway you will have to add the decorators to the package
<hknewbie>
I added it
<waddlesplash>
ok
<hknewbie>
I am at the generated.x86_64 subfolder
<hknewbie>
if I try to build the anyboot img
<hknewbie>
haiku_extras doesnt get detected
<hknewbie>
I might try to run jam directly in the decor folder
<hknewbie>
directly, and copy them to the /boot/home/... subfolders
<waddlesplash>
order matters
<waddlesplash>
jam -q @nightly-anyboot haiku_extras.hpkg
<waddlesplash>
that should work
<waddlesplash>
then you just install the freshly build package: pkgman in path/to/just/built/haiku_extras.hpkg
<hknewbie>
yeah, I know that, butÑ
<hknewbie>
but:
<hknewbie>
don't know how to make @nightly-anyboot
<hknewbie>
...patience...
<hknewbie>
don't know how to make haiku_extras.hpkg
<waddlesplash>

and we don't actually support any real bluetooth features like audio or file transfer

@waddlesplash - remember how I was missing the development packages the other day? turns out I lost a bunch of others too such as Vision and Epiphany - I *think* it was to do with runnign software updater

that doesn't make much sense...

pretty sure I've used it
<xoblite>
B_ENTERED_VIEW and B_EXITED_VIEW seems to work fine

when the mouse is moving around outside the view...

that's what I used to choose 1920x1080 the other week, just to see if it would perform better. but since then I've not been able to get back to 4k, and it doesn't appear in the boot loader menu either... I've just updated the rEFInd config file to see if that supports it and to see if it'll affect what the Haiku loader detects
<mattlacey>
I created a vesa file myself just now to see if that'd work but it didn't

waddlesplash : by the way, have you looked into the Network prefs mess lately? Any plans to do so? Or are the issues further down the line?

mess?
<waddlesplash>
the only issue I know of is the crash in the menus

which is really an Interface Kit problem
<xoblite>
it's absolutely totally flaky, yes :)
<xoblite>
things don't update properly in so many places
<xoblite>
at least when you're outside of a friendly steady state.
<xoblite>
like today when I tried to get a supported WiFi USB adapter to work... ouch
<xoblite>
(could be wpa_supplicant below etc of course, but that still doesn't explain why Network prefs+replicant are not updated or sometimes even in sync with each other)
<waddlesplash>
it updates just fine as far as I know
<waddlesplash>
it just crashes sometimes when updating the menus
<xoblite>
related maybe?
