<Tekk__> Hey, does anyone know what the EFI setup for haiku is supposed to look like? I just actually got an install working on my desktop but it didn't add an entry to the boot manager, which happens sometimes. I added the entry manually, but the boot fails because it can't find grub in the haiku EFI directory
<Tekk__> For the boot entry I just have it pointing to bootx64.efi

<PulkoMandy> so, yes, just copy the EFI file to your EFI partition and have your boot manager run it
<Tekk_> Ahh, that might've just been an old boot partition I misrecognized.
<Tekk_> It was just named "Boot" and I didn't remember it being there before, assumed that was Haiku.

<Tekk_> Sound's good too. The only "issues" it seems like are graphics support (duh, don't expect the full DRI stack in Haiku or anything) and the fact that for some reason it only recognized one port on my network card.

<PulkoMandy> there are certainly no plans to require "sudo" to do most things
<PulkoMandy> if we do multiuser it will be more similar to how it's done on Android I'd say. No sudo or anything like that
<PulkoMandy> Linux had done a good job convincing everyone that multiuser is a bad thing...
<Tekktonic> Relatedly: is there a way to change the user's name?
<Tekktonic> That'd make stuff like ssh a bit less annoying vs having to add a config entry for every host

<cmeerw[m]> Just trying to at least get some basic IPv6 support working
<waddlesplash> yeah, been a sore spot for a while. I know kallisti5[m] did some work on it years ago, but not enough to get it to functioning
<waddlesplash> we've also got ambroff, who's worked on TCP before (and is back and investigating stuff again, I think)
<waddlesplash> for my part I just stick to drivers
<waddlesplash> anyway, welcome, and please do ask around if you get stuck on something, we're always happy to help
<waddlesplash> we really should document more of the facilities we have for working on the kernel and drivers, or at least the "common development workflow", for now it's mostly "ask around and see what others do"

<waddlesplash> cmeerw[m]: and as for in-tree stuff, there's a bunch of framework in src/tests somewhere for running the network stack entirely in userland for debugging and testing purposes; though it hasn't been used in years and probably is broken
<waddlesplash> ha, apparently 17 years if this ticket is accurate: https://dev.haiku-os.org/ticket/808
