(nintendo1889) Is there a redshift recipe? Redshift is a linux cli tool that changes the rgb values like f.lux does.

redshift uses randr to adjust gamma/brightness - not sure how that would work under haiku

'pkgman search pip' does show that it is available
<pairisto[m]>
but that is getting it from the package manager, I am wondering if it already comes with the os like linux does
<mooes>
not sure what you mean by that -- pip wasn't automatically installed on my linux box, so I also had to install it afterwards
<pairisto[m]>
oh, huh

yeah, different distros are going to do things differently
<pairisto[m]>
also, where would it be appropriate to make something in C++ over C for the OS?
<pairisto[m]>
or vice versa

<mooes>
well, as far as I know, Haiku itself is written in C++, but any additional software can be written in other languages of course.
<pairisto[m]>
so in the end it really doesn't matter?
<mooes>
for any add-on software, not really I would say

<PulkoMandy>
Writing Haiku apps in C will be complicated, most of the API isn't available for C programs. So you should really prefer C++ if you can
<bjorkintosh>
PulkoMandy, why's that?
<bjorkintosh>
has it always been that way/

PulkoMandy: it is not that bad actually, I use that approach, the most annoying is the mangling that differs for the long type between 32bit and 64bit, but otherwise I can even extend the classes (although by just copying and adjusting the vtables)
TeslasMHD has joined #haiku
rennj has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<jezek2>
I did it that way because I couldn't get C++ working in my cross-compiler installation
<jezek2>
and then I remembered that I use also plain C for accessing ObjC on MacOS, and I like both approaches more than trying to use C++/ObjC directly

it also has an advantage when supporting multiple versions in a single binary (though not currently using that for C++ specifically, just GTK), but thinking about it, it could allow to interact with both GCC 2.95 and latest GCC binaries in 32bit builds (to support adding icons to the deskbar)
