<OscarL> x512[m]: not that I know of, other than using DiskProbe (and/or "dd if=/dev/null", if you have the correct offsets/spans written down).
<OscarL> good enough for one-off cases, I guess, but I'm not aware of anything more automated than that. Hopefully others know better than me (usually the case :-P).

<andreasdr[m]> But I have one problem with my Haiku PC. It uses lots of power. Laptops are so much better regarding power usage.
<andreasdr[m]> 50w in idle
<andreasdr[m]> 190w if compiling our engine
<andreasdr[m]> my laptop uses 20w in idle and 92w when compiling tdme2 with better speed.
<andreasdr[m]> But well.
<OscarL> andreasdr[m]: that's what mostly prevents me from running Haiku on my Phenom II.... it is uses much less power to use Windos or Linux as a host, and run Haiku on a VM (due to the lack of PowerNow/CoolNQuiet drivers).
<andreasdr[m]> Hmm. Windows take about the same power on my 2 machines.
<andreasdr[m]> I dont think Haiku is the problem here.
<andreasdr[m]> But I see.
<OscarL> Haiku only has some power-management drivers for some Intel CPUs, and, thanks to korli's latest adittions, some AMD Ryzen CPUs... the rest... all run at full-throtle.
<OscarL> my old Atom N450 based netbook would be of much better use running Haiku 24/7 too, but sadly, it gets too hot under Haiku (same issue, no suitable "cpufreq" driver for such CPU).
<andreasdr[m]> Oh damn.
<andreasdr[m]> But really in this case its not Haikus fault.
<OscarL> And sadly... my skills are too limited to help with that, even after several failed attempts :-D
<andreasdr[m]> Damn.
<PulkoMandy> x512[m], DriveSetup should do this when creating a new partition table, if it doesn't it means the feature got broken
<andreasdr[m]> But you will never do it if you dont try ;)
<x512[m]> DriveSetup seems not clear backup GPT at end of disk that confuse some systems.
<OscarL> andreasdr[m]: true... just wish I was smarter :-D
<andreasdr[m]> Wait what Sir? Naaaaaaaaaaaa. There is only one thing that helps. TRY AND SUCCES OR FAIL AND REPEAT :DDD
<andreasdr[m]> I also failed at some private software projects. It happens.
<PulkoMandy> if it doesn't work, that's a bug
<OscarL> At least I got SHIFT+arrows text selection working on Terminal + mcedit... (still debating if I should submit that patch for review, as I needed to change some Terminal "hidden" shortcuts in the process).
<andreasdr[m]> Nice.
<OscarL> what I've learned is... I should stay away from anything related to terminal emulators.
<andreasdr[m]> Hihi
<andreasdr[m]> Also this happens :)
<PulkoMandy> Terminal is not a great example of terminal emulator code
<OscarL> There is just too much levels of old lore to wrap your head around :-D
<PulkoMandy> the code in SerialConnect (based on libvterm) is a little better. I planned to replace all the old code in Terminal with that, but it doesn't yet implement all the same features and people keep improving Terminal :( :p

<andreasdr[m]> I am currently just in plain Berlin/Germany.
<OscarL> regarding Catamarca: There are some really nice looking places... but... the heat, dust, earthquakes, poverty... makes it a nicer place to visit than to live in :-)
<andreasdr[m]> Oh I see.
<andreasdr[m]> :(
<OscarL> andreasdr[m]: I always loved what I saw of Germany's forrests!
<OscarL> I wish I could live in a small shack in the middle of trees :-D
<jmairboeck> Seems like I fixed the info files build of lilypond, by fixing texinfo 6.7 on gcc2 ...
<OscarL> (not "exactly" Berlin, but you know what I mean :-D)
<OscarL> well done jmairboeck!
<andreasdr[m]> I know what you mean.
<andreasdr[m]> I used to be a lot in a forrest when visiting my grand mother, who lived in a forrest.
<jmairboeck> according to the docs, texinfo 6.1 should be new enough, but it didn't work. With 6.7 it works.
<OscarL> andreasdr[m]: nice! the oma in the forrest!
<andreasdr[m]> Yes.
<OscarL> andreasdr[m]: we have a folklore song here that talks about an "oma" (immigrant from Germany as a young lady). I love that song.
<OscarL> I'll see if I can find a good sounding copy.
<netpositive> hi OscarL
<OscarL> good Sunday to you netpositive!
<netpositive> same to you
<OscarL> andreasdr[m]: can't find a good copy with subtitles. The main point is that the author of the song speaks with admiration for that hardworking woman (in a hard to live part of our land)... saying: "The oma is happy with little. Almost as if she's better with almost nothing. The oma was blond, and you can tell... she was a pretty German girl".
<OscarL> Always loved those lyrics.
<netpositive> Always loved pretty German girls. 8]
<OscarL> specially the ones that can bake some mean cakes :-D
<andreasdr[m]> I am not that much into german folklore :DDD
<OscarL> this song is Argentine' folkore tough :-P
<andreasdr[m]> Ah Sorry.
<andreasdr[m]> :D
<andreasdr[m]> So please show us that argentine folglore song.
<OscarL> I reckon that it is an acquired taste.
<andreasdr[m]> Nice. Listening currently to it.
<OscarL> I've heard that song since I was <10 years (almost 46 now).
<andreasdr[m]> I see
<OscarL> but since I was a kid I loved how that songs speaks of the admiration for a strong woman.
<andreasdr[m]> I see.
<andreasdr[m]> :)
<andreasdr[m]> Nice song.
<OscarL> jmairboeck: re:textinfo... those "small" issues can get annoying... fast :-) Thanks for persevering!
<jmairboeck> let's see if it works that easily, PulkoMandy mentioned some potential problem with gcc2 itself
<OscarL> while trying to do the "sc" recipe, for x86_64 bits... I could create a "quick reference" doc in PDF, no problem, on x86... only the .html one was easy to make... but that didn't worked on 64 bits... sigh... in the end... I've just let the "cmd:scqref" in, in case any user wants to create that ref doc themselves depending on the arch they run :-D
<OscarL> small difference in packages/versions among archs can be a real PITA.

<OscarL> then it goes talking about how difficult is to reach her place, and that her house is surrounded by trees, plough, tools, etc... her house is made of adobe, and she only talks with her little parrot.

<Anarchos> how to upgrade haikuport tree ?
<Anarchos> i got this : The version of the recipe file format used in the ports tree is older than the one supported by haikuporter.
rennj has joined #haiku
<OscarL> I use "git pull upstream master", but I guess it depends on how your cloned repo is setup.
<OscarL> as in...my git remotes are: "origin" (points to my github fork) and "upstream" (points to the haikuports original repo)
<OscarL> (I have git setup to always rebase on pulls)
<Anarchos> OscarL i just clone the official repo
<OscarL> then "git pull --rebase" should work (you might need to use "git stash" if you have modified files you haven't committed yet)
<PulkoMandy> it's very likely that the error message is misleading... the recipe format has not changed in many years
<PulkoMandy> check your haikuports.conf to see if it's looking for recipes in the correct place for example
<Anarchos> PulkoMandy thanks i will look

<jmairboeck> Begasus: I checked lilypond on x86 (half a build of it because my virtual disk is too small) and when building it locally it works after the texinfo update
<Begasus> jmairboeck, will do a check somewhere this week (if I get around to it), at least the PR for texinfo builds fine here
<jmairboeck> so I suppose besides texinfo, the only remaining problem is the fontconfig one, but that requires an update for the build machines themselves
<jmairboeck> I hope it is only haikuporter which needs an update
<Begasus> created an issue there jmairboeck ?
<jmairboeck> not yet
<Begasus> maybe best, not everyone reads the logs here :)

<jmairboeck> your problem with the 32 bit version was because of texinfo
<jmairboeck> version 6.1 is too old apparently
<jmairboeck> maybe I should report a bug for lilypond because their documentation still says that texinfo 6.1 is enough
<Begasus> it worked before?
<jmairboeck> yes, version 2.22
<jmairboeck> but not 2.24
<Begasus> hence my comment, something must have changed there
<jmairboeck> lilypond 2.24 apparently needs a newer version of texinfo
<jmairboeck> despite what the documentation says
<Begasus> ok, that's one, but did something changed in regards of fontconfig?
<jmairboeck> no, I don't think so
<jmairboeck> I noticed the problem already last year, hence korli made the change to haikuporter to copy the config files to the chroot
<Begasus> ps, 2.25.1 is also released :)
<jmairboeck> the odd versions are unstable ones
<jmairboeck> the next stable release is probably 2.26
<jmairboeck> or 3.0, although I doubt that
<Begasus> :)

<Begasus> Anarchos, could you check something simple to build? like "haikuporter weather"
<Anarchos> sure
<Begasus> that looks strange to me too: repository-x86_gcc2
wickn1x has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<Begasus> should only be ~/haikuports/repository
<Anarchos> it loops on waiting for build package weather-1.1.0-1 to be activated
<Begasus> bugger ... anoing bug :/
<Begasus> try "haikuporter album"
<Begasus> ps, you can kill the loop with "
<Begasus> Ctrl+C
<Anarchos> i did ;)
<Begasus> ;)
<Anarchos> remember my arch is x86
<Begasus> you are on 32bit right?
<Anarchos> Terminal open in x86_gcc2, then i switch with setarch x_86)
<Begasus> no need for that
<Begasus> haikuporter is smart enough to switch compiler without you doing it upfront :)
<Begasus> I only switch arch if I try to build something outside of haikuports

Atom is now known as Guest2800
<Anarchos> Begasus: build-requires "devel:libintl" of package "album-0.9.4" could not be resolved
<Begasus> Anarchos, do you have gettext-0.19.8.1 installed?
<Begasus> you probably need "haikuporter --get-dependencies album"
Guest2800 is now known as AtomPC
<Begasus> still builds fine here
<Anarchos> ok this one worked
ClaudioM has joined #haiku
<Begasus> try now: haikuporter --get-dependencies argon2_x86
<Begasus> shouldn't be that big also

<Anarchos> Begasus oh there is a preview in texstudio ? Does it autoupdate ?
<Anarchos> Begasus argon worked
<Begasus> Anarchos, on texstudio you can play around, there is already a version around
<Begasus> and with texlive available all should be working (provided the right packages are installed) :)
<Begasus> ok, then "haikuporter -S -j8 --no-source-packages --get-dependencies sbcl_x86-2.1.10.22_20211029" should work also
<Begasus> or "haikuporter -S --get-dependencies sbcl_x86-2.1.10.22_20211029" should work also
<AtomPC> bye now and thank you for help

<Javanx> Seems that VirtualEnvs aren't working on Python3.10 on Haiku, while they do on Python3.9, it looks like the site-packages of the virtualenv is not added to sys.path in python3.10

<PulkoMandy> yes, the python 3.10 recipe at haikuports apparently removed some important patches that need to be re-done
<PulkoMandy> please log your findings here: https://github.com/haikuports/haikuports/issues/7531 if they are not listed already
