I'm currently on macOS 13.1. The installer states that 13.5 or newer is needed, but I've read that in versions >= 13.6 there are possible booting issues. Is it safe to install asahi on 13.1, or is there any way to do a partial update to 13.5?
<nicolas17>
what Mac do you have?
<memelover>
macbook pro with M1
<nicolas17>
the boot problem is specific to the M2 Pro / M2 Max models, which have 120Hz displays
<memelover>
Oh perfect - the source I read about the bug from did not note that. Thanks!

<Namidairo>
that's weird, I wonder how I managed to pull the charge_full down from 438200 to 394800 in only 12 cycles
<janneg>
Namidairo: check with macos, I'm under the impression that the numbers we get from smc are somewhat random and go up after booting into macos
<janneg>
also if those are numbers from upower make sure they are not multicated by voltage_now
<janneg>
it use voltage_min_design in some places which is the reason for the lower than expected capacity values
<Namidairo>
macos reports 100% capacity, but the smc still reports the same capacity under /sys/class/power_supply/macsmc-battery/charge_full in asahi
<Namidairo>
implementation quirk i guess

<kidplayer666>
to be honest, I never had the pulling thing problem on Linux
<kidplayer666>
It usually connects automagically
<kidplayer666>
and my phone and laptop switch as they should
<kidplayer666>
with the phone being able to interrupt the laptop if a call arrives
<kidplayer666>
I just updated to mesa 24
<kidplayer666>
the info center on KDE does not have the usual error on the Vulkan page
<kidplayer666>
Is it here?

kidplayer666: by here you mean vulkan, no i havent heard anything about that
<kidplayer666>
just because info centre usually gives out an error saying no vulkan adapter available
<kidplayer666>
but just tested vkcube, as recommended by ydalton and it says cpu
<kidplayer666>
crap

<kidplayer666>
but with the new mesa it doesnt throw out that error
<j`ey>
well vulkan wasnt merged, maybe kde has change that somehow
<kidplayer666>
nah, i was mistaken apparently
<kidplayer666>
but still weird that kde does not crap its pants
<kidplayer666>
info centre used to just throw out in big letters "no vulkan compatible device detected"

nicolas17: i thought the issue was with any macbook pro 14 and 16 inch? so including the m1 macbook pro 14 inch for example
<leio>
kidplayer666: so you have lavapipe provide vulkan?
<ydalton>
for me and kidplayer666 it's llvmpipe
<ydalton>
but i've always had that since i moved to fedora asahi

llvmpipe is software implementation of OpenGL, lavapipe is software implementation of Vulkan

<nicolas17>
ydalton: oh :| I thought ProMotion was introduced in the M2 P/M models of MBP 14/16", but I'm wrong, the M1 P/M had it too; now I feel bad for spreading misinformation
