Sooooo how close is Asahi Fedora Remix to a 1.0?
<Tramtrist>
closer than ever
<shiggitay>
sweet
<tpw_rules>
isn't that how time works usually
<shiggitay>
I guess haha
<shiggitay>
I'm in no rush... once my target machine is fully supported I'll try it out
<Tramtrist>
😉
<shiggitay>
XD
<shiggitay>
I know marcan said it'd release later this month but I see quite a few things on the SoC chart that aren't working yet... Just an observation though...

<sahin>
hello everyone! i am using asahi linux on my macbook pro m2 pro (14 inch, 2023) and i wanted to test hdmi support but i don't see my external monitor. i am using hyprland.
<sahin>
is there a place i need to look at? should i report this somewhere else?
<dubiousness>
sahin: troubleshooting step one, do you see any logs, troubleshooting step two, does it work on another WM/DE?
<sahin>
i don't see any logs. i think installing another wm wouldn't have any effect because i don't see my other monitor even at the login screen (sddm)
<kidplayer666>
sahin: this is kind of a stupid question, but always worth checking, you are using the physical HDMI port without any adapters?
<sahin>
yes, i am using physical hdmi port.
<j`ey>
sahin: have you tried replugging it?
<sahin>
and it is working when i am using macos. so the problem is not on cable or monitor i am using
<sahin>
j`ey: yes. but i will boot into asahi and try again once more.
<PaulFertser>
Can wlr-randr be recommended as an easy way to see the outputs, their modes etc for such a case?
<j`ey>
hard to tell if it's even lighting up at all
sahin_ has joined #asahi
<sahin_>
i am on asahi now. i replugged the cable but it is still not working
luna has joined #asahi
<sahin_>
i installed wlr-rand but i don't see any monitor other than eDP-1
<j`ey>
sahin: can you paste the output of asahi-diagnost somewhere (termbin.com, some other pastebin) and maybe janneg can spot something
sahin has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<PaulFertser>
Pasting is easy with asahi-diagnost | nc termbin.com 9999
<mixi>
not sure whether that is the right node for hdmi, but what does "tr '\0' '\n' < /proc/device-tree/$(tr '\0' '\n' < /proc/device-tree/aliases/dcpext0)/status" say for you?
<leio>
looks like an old arch arm kernel without hdmi support to me too
<sahin_>
zsh: no such file or directory: /proc/device-tree/aliases/dcpext0
<sahin_>
zsh: no such file or directory: /proc/device-tree//status
<PaulFertser>
mixi: "xargs -0" is easier to type
<j`ey>
ah right yeah, thats an old arch kernel
<sahin_>
i upgraded my system with `yay`. shouldn't that install the new kernel?
<j`ey>
arch hasnt got a new kernel
<j`ey>
fedora has it
<sahin_>
so arch hasn't got the hdmi support yet?
eiln has quit [Quit: WeeChat 4.1.2]
<sahin_>
is installing fedora only way to get hdmi support?
<kidplayer666>
i mean, i think arch will eventuallly get the newer kernels
<kidplayer666>
but fedora i think is now the main focus
<PaulFertser>
Also, it's not like you can't run one distro userspace with another distro kernel.
<sahin_>
PaulFertsner: sorry if this is a stupid question. you are telling me i can run Fedora kernel and use arch as my distro?
<sahin_>
if so, can i do that without losing my data and reinstall from scratch?
<PaulFertser>
I think you can but then you're on your own and it's assumed you're familiar enough with GNU/Linux to handle it properly (including all manual updates, appropriate kernel modules, doing the right thing to generate initramfs, etc etc)
<PaulFertser>
I mean if you ask that question then most probably it's not the right solution for you.
<sahin_>
yeah, i also think same :D
<sahin_>
thank you all. i will try this later then :)
<dubiousness>
I wo
<dubiousness>
uld also second using the Fedora remix
<sahin_>
i know this is not right place to ask but can i dual boot asahi? i mean on one side arch and the other side fedora
<sahin_>
since i installed arch on one partition, i am afraid resizing it while that partition is mounted
<kidplayer666>
you probably can. there is also a tool to make a USB bootable version of minimal fedora, which i used to augment the size of my partition
<kidplayer666>
(to be rigorous, i installed gnome on top of the minimal install to be able to use GParted)

i am testing the speakers on my m1 mac mini, and i daresay they sound a lot better than what they sound like on macOS! excellent job asahi team!
<holiday>
the high frequencies do sound better ngl
<ydalton>
holiday: the cracking happens when you click around a video right?
<ydalton>
how can we get verbose logging on speakersafetyd?
<holiday>
ydalton: yep or when changing the song on spotify
<ydalton>
like to see the measured temperature or something like that
<ydalton>
holiday: i'm having that as well, i think it's normal
<holiday>
what should be the max temp on m1 macbook pro?
<holiday>
for the speakers
<ydalton>
`systemctl status speakersafetyd` should tell you

weird how the preset is "disabled"

it's started by udev

oh oki

well it's running so

(with udev it can be easily enabled per device)

aside from iwtlw, is there an official speaker test suite? to check if the speaker safety is implemented properly and whatnot
