<ktz_[m]>
no actual changes for later kernels needed right? excuse me being so unknowing, this is the first time I attempt to compile and replace my kernel
<j`ey>
ktz_[m]: easiest way is to probably modify the apk and rebuild with APKBUILD
<millenialhacker>
I think you need Asahi kernel branch, by default it won't work on a vanilla kernel
<chadmed_>
theres still a huge amount of stuff that hasnt been upstreamed yet, not least of which is nvme
<chadmed_>
so if you want the machine to actually work youre best off just using the asahi kernel
<ktz_[m]>
j`ey: you're right I think I'll try it this way. millenialhacker chadmed_ I'm using the asahi kernel, just trying to compile the latest changes
<ktz_[m]>
thanks by the way
<j`ey>
ktz_[m]: what you have from the apk is the latest
<ktz_[m]>
yeah this is my kernel as well, just thought you're running 5.18 already
<j`ey>
oh right, no, that was just for benchmarking
<ktz_[m]>
okay, thanks!
<mps_>
ktz_[m]: it is rebased $somedate-next before first 5.18-rc is released so it have 5.17 in version
<mps_>
but it is newer than 5.17
<ktz_[m]>
okay glad to know, I assume I don't really need to mind about keeping it up to date since it is in the repo, right? I got interested in upgrading it in case it fixes a couple of issues and then trying to compile zfs against it
<ktz_[m]>
I feel so guilty for reaching out for help haha
<j`ey>
dont feel guilty!
<jannau>
it's probably much closer to 5.18-rc1 than to 5.17. we will try to base on rcX tags going forward
<chadmed_>
that is exactly what this channel is here for, no need to feel guilty
<mps_>
ktz_[m]: I will try to keep it in sync with asahi changes
<mps_>
ktz_[m]: current version is linux-asahi-5.17.0_rc7-r1
<mps_>
upgrade to exactly this one to keep it correctly updated with grub.cfg
<mps_>
j`ey: ^
<ktz_[m]>
I'm just sure you guys have much more important stuff to deal with.. thanks for your time eitherways
<mps_>
I forgot to mention this to you (if you use it and not build your own)
<chadmed_>
eh im just staving off uni burnout and applying for jobs which have nothing to do with my degree, happy to answer questions :)
<ktz_[m]>
chadmed_: good luck with that buddy
<j`ey>
mps_: yeah I build my own, and dont use grub
<mps_>
ktz_[m]: yes, I'm working to add xf86-input-mtrack to alpine, found it is somewhat better than xf86-input-libinput
<mps_>
some swipes works now
<jannau>
mps_: linux/asahi has tags used for the asahi linux package, appending those might be less confusing
<Administrator>
irc.worldhacker.org is open for public now , request anything from channel #0day , see ya there ... .

<Cy8aer[m]>
Did anyone try wireguard with the asahi kernel? I somehow cannot get any connection.
<Cy8aer[m]>
Routing is fine, self pinging works
bisko has quit [Quit: My MacBook has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…]

looks like it does not get further than the first handshake packages.

I used a working setup from another machine for testing.

work fine for me on both 16K and 4K page size, alpine kernel
<Cy8aer[m]>
is the 4k alpine kernel the same as the debian one (so borrowed from the debian stuff or self compiled)?
<Cy8aer[m]>
just to isolate the problem
<mps>
Cy8aer[m]: it is not, alpine is tailored to be small with minimally needed drivers/options to work
<mps>
and options/drivers to be usable for end users
<mps>
if someone needs something/some driver bug/issue report could be created on gitlab.alpinelinux.org

Hey there, I will try to make a custom kali install on my m1, I didn't read the whole manual on asahi but do you guys have some "just don't do that" (as in running a calamares installer) that would make me have to wipe and reset all of my configs? Thanks
<tpw_rules>
does kali have a working kernel for m1?
<tpw_rules>
don't delete the first or last partitions
<r_rei[m]>
No I would use asahi's kernel (assuming I can)
