<AlienSoldier> waddlesplash once i reinstalled, i reused my packages and it crashed again once i rebooted. Now everything seem fine, i reinstalled again but this time got all pakage from haiku depot. So it was a corrupot package or i did hit somekind of limit in the number of lib that can exist in that directory that may come again. Right now i only reinstalled what i use daily, before i was having lot of thing i was just curious about.

<Coldfirex> waddlesplash: could you give some insight how you determined that it was the strnlen stuff that needed changed for that microbenchmark? Thats something I've been meaning to learn eventually (profiling, etc)
<waddlesplash> simple, I ran profile -f -C <program> and read the output :)
<waddlesplash> but actually, I guessed it was that exact issue in strndup before I even ran the profiler
<Coldfirex> hah, ok then. didnt know we had that built in. thanks!
<waddlesplash> because I read through the code of the benchmark, and the only major libc functions it called in the import portion were malloc related ones, which were likely not the issue (they might be a performance problem but not that much of one), and then strndup
<waddlesplash> so before I even re-ran the benchmark under the profiler, I pulled out the source to strndup and immediately spotted that exact thing
<waddlesplash> Coldfirex: if you think that's neat, what till you try scheduling_recorder and debuganalyzer
<waddlesplash> though that data is a little harder to interpret sometimes
<waddlesplash> also useful when debugging things: strace -T <pid>
<waddlesplash> attaches strace to a running application, very useful when dropping into a system you suspect may be hung
<Coldfirex> Nice, I definitely plan to. Gotta finish my basic c++ learning still, but added to my growing list of things to play around with :)

<Begasus> hi beaglejoe
<beaglejoe> Hello Begasus
<Begasus> jmairboeck, not sure, I just updated to your repo with those latest changes
HAL_6900 has joined #haiku
<beaglejoe> I am having trouble with haikuporter and new 'all' arch
<Begasus> beaglejoe, I didn't check a buid for speed-dreams on 32bit so far
<Begasus> did you update haikuporter?
<Begasus> or do you use the one from HaikuDepot?
<beaglejoe> haikuporter --version reports 1.2.5 pkgman install haikuporter wants to install 1.2.4-1 ??
Diver has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
<Begasus> haikuporter has seen some changes in the last day(s), those are not merged into haikuports, so you probably don't have the most recent one

<beaglejoe> Should I install haikuporter from HaikuDepot or can I build it from git head ?
Anarchos has joined #haiku
<Begasus> no need to build it, just grab the source from github
<Begasus> if you have the one from haikudepot, uninstall it, git clone as explained on the link and create a symlink as explained there too
<Begasus> I use it too, if new changes are there I just "git pull" to be back on track :)
<beaglejoe> *beaglejoe trying to figure out how to git pull from upstream...

<Begasus> gathered some information about that on my wiki beaglejoe :) https://github.com/Begasus/haikuports/wiki/Using-git-commands
<beaglejoe> Thanks, I got it with 'git pull upstream master' from https://github.com/haikuports/haikuports/wiki/DevelopmentModel
<beaglejoe> but it created extra commit :(
<jmairboeck> beaglejoe: you should probably use git pull --rebase ... or set the auto-rebase option in git config (not sure exactly how its called)
<beaglejoe> jmairboeck: thx, will look into that. git is much more complicated than subversion

<Begasus> k, let's keep track on buildmaster now :)
<Begasus> icebreaker is ok, speed-dreams not enabled so not building there
<jmairboeck> damn, my local build of texlive_core uses wrong paths, because probably the patch function was not re-run ...
<jmairboeck> renaming packages is complicated ...
<jmairboeck> so let's rebuild it one more time

<Begasus> be sure to make backups of your changes beaglejoe
<Begasus> I use an alias "gmp" that pulls upstream master and push to origin on my fork for that
<Begasus> but I try to keep master clean from changes (hence branches)
<AlwaysLivid> beaglejoe, if you have any commits, you can rebase them on top of master
gouchi has joined #haiku
<Begasus> beaglejoe, on what branch are you atm?
<beaglejoe> Does your fork get ahead of upstream?
<Begasus> nope
<beaglejoe> Begasus: master
<Begasus> did you make changes in your master branch? (it seems like)
<beaglejoe> I didn't create a feature branch when I started.
<Begasus> ah, I see, you didn't create a seperate branch for speed-dreams
<Begasus> maybe AlwaysLivid can help you rebase there, I'm not so familiar there
<beaglejoe> now that the pull request is merged. Everything should be the same, but github shows my fork ahead of haikuports/haikuports
<AlwaysLivid> `git rebase master`
<Begasus> yeah, because you made the changes in "your" master branch, instead of a "speed-dreams" branch
<Begasus> AlwaysLivid, does this work when you have your own "fork" of the repo?
<AlwaysLivid> as long as you're on a different branch
<Begasus> seems like it isn't
<AlwaysLivid> if not, do `git pull https://github.com/haikuports/haikuports.git master --rebase`
<Begasus> or set upstream repo? and do "git pull upstream master"?
<Begasus_32> alias gmp="git checkout master && git pull upstream master && git push -f origin master"
<Begasus> that's the alias I use her to keep things in shape

<andreasdr> B2IA: Nice. Video!!!!
<andreasdr> The BeOS was such a nice OS on PowerPC. I had R5 running on my PowerMac back in early 2000s.
<ScottPuopolo> andreasdr: what processor(s) did it have?
<B2IA> (compgeke) I'm running on Quad 132 MHz PPC 604s right now. It's pretty snappy!
<andreasdr> I dont remember exactly. But I think it had a PPC 604 with 200MHZ. Later I upgraded to G3. But not sure if BeOS run a G3.
<andreasdr> Nice.
<B2IA> (scott_puopolo) compgeke: Nice!
<andreasdr> I now have a old PPC Mac with G5. Would be nice if Haiku could run on it.
<B2IA> (compgeke) Any cool MP aware programs I can use to show off how fast my machine is? (Slower than a G3, lol)
<B2IA> (scott_puopolo) The best I was able to put together was a Tyan 1832DL board with two PIII Pentium 800's. It was a ripper!
<B2IA> (compgeke) Yeah I have a DEC Personal Workstation 200i2 with Dual 200 MHz PPros that ran R5 very well, too.
<B2IA> (compgeke) mainly wanted to see Quake work on that for a Vintage Computer Fest exhibit I do. It kind of worked - main limitation was I didn't have a GL capable PCI video card for it
<B2IA> (compgeke) just random workstation cards

<andreasdr> I had BeOS also running on a dual cpu motherboard with 2 800MBZ PIIIs. Big love.
<andreasdr> Back in early 2000s.
<ScottPuopolo> andreasdr: i know, it was stupid fast. I miss that setup.
<andreasdr> <3
<andreasdr> It was such a pity BeOS went down :(((
<andreasdr> Be and BeOS :(
<B2IA> (compgeke) tbh BeOS R5 runs so much better than Mac OS 8.6 does on this same box
<andreasdr> I 100% agree.
oldleather has joined #haiku
<B2IA> (compgeke) Biggest problem with this machine is Mac OS 8/9 were not MP aware, at all. You had to write programs specifically to use the Daystar nPower API meaning the MP was done entirely on the software level, and not OS level. Most programs run on a single CPI
<andreasdr> :O
