(binky) Is someone here?
<mrentropy64>
What kind of someone?
<B2IA>
(binky) Real person. I new to Haiku b3. Althou I used it before, I never used this application.
<B2IA>
(binky) not a bot.
<mrentropy64>
I believe I am a real person.
<B2IA>
(binky) Great.
<B2IA>
(binky) What would be if Apple bought Be and not NeXT?
<B2IA>
(binky) I'm using Haiku in VMware Fusion, it runs fine but I don't have sound.
Rynn has joined #haiku
<B2IA>
(binky) Is there a database for Haiku? Something like FileMaker?
<mrentropy64>
I don't know. Things would probably be different, but I don't know how. I've never used Fusion, so I don't know. I use VMware Workstation and do get sound, but that's probably not helpful.
<B2IA>
(binky) ok
<B2IA>
(binky) Do you use Haiku all the time, or it is just a hobby?
<mrentropy64>
haven't used FileMaker, either. You could look through HaikuDepot and see if anything there strikes a chord.
<mrentropy64>
I usually have Haiku booted up during the day along with my other computers (1 Mac, 1 Windows).
<B2IA>
(binky) ok
<mrentropy64>
Kexi might be the kind of thing you're looking for.
<B2IA>
(binky) I have a new PC. Do you know if I install it on a partition and run Haiku it would run fine. My pc has a Asus X570 TUF Gaming Pro WiFi motherboard, a Ryzen 7 5800X, 16GB RAM and a Radeon 570 8GB video card.
<mrentropy64>
I can't say for sure that it would. I will say it could be plausible. I have Haiku running on a Ryzen 5 3400G (I think) and an AMD R1606G. So processor shouldn't be a problem.
<B2IA>
(binky) how about the video card?
<mrentropy64>
I can't guarantee other stuff will work or not, such as Wi-Fi or sound. Video should probably work. Worst case scenario, you use the Fail Safe Graphics option.
<B2IA>
(binky) May be I will try. I just install B3 today in this VM.

(binky) How many people normally use BeShare?
<B2IA>
(binky) Hi.
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Not too many BeShare users nowadays, binky. Mostly people have moved over to IRC.
<B2IA>
(binky) ok
<mrentropy64>
The last time I tried BeShare, it couldn't find a server.
<B2IA>
(AGMS) The old Tycom Systems BeShare server is down, so it's just this one now.
<B2IA>
(binky) What browser do you use?
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Looks like their domain name doesn't exist any more either.
<B2IA>
(AGMS) WebPositive is the main one for Haiku. Though there are a couple of QT based ones that also work.
<B2IA>
(binky) ok
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Still, would be nice if the Haiku browser was updated to WebKit 2. But that would be a lot of work, supposedly.
<B2IA>
(binky) I'm from Brazil, maybe the only Haiku user down here.
<B2IA>
(AGMS) It's the same software library that Apple Safari uses.
<B2IA>
(binky) lol
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Hmmm, weren't there a lot of Portugese speakers back in BeOS days?
<B2IA>
(binky) Don't know. But I saw that there is a user guide in Portuguese.
<B2IA>
(binky) cool, didn't know that. I used BeOS when it launched.
<B2IA>
(binky) I'm a long time MacUser. I'm 54 now. Use Apple computers since 1983.
<B2IA>
(binky) Thank for the link.
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Heh, had used an Apple ][ for a while.
<B2IA>
(AGMS) But now it's Linux systems, running virtual machines for Haiku and BeOS.
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Anyway, got to get to sleep, bye for now.

<B2IA>
(Zillo) Is it better than running in Mac OS, Windows or Linux?
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Also sometimes testing radio automation software.
<B2IA>
(AGMS) I like the way you can file e-mails into folders along with other regular files, like PDFs.
<B2IA>
(Zillo) Adam Curry know much about radio automation.
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Also the search system is good.
<B2IA>
(Zillo) knows...
<B2IA>
(bronzie94) I do some real-life work on Haiku - it's like my side-car to my Mac (I'd love for it to be a full daily driver). I use Krita for graphics and Libre Office for word processing. But it's not 100% ready for proime time, especially if you want to use the web in anger, or video streaming...
<B2IA>
(AGMS) I sometimes do contract work for TuneTracker radio automation systems.
<B2IA>
(bronzie94) Do most of my terminal, gemini and IRC based stuff on the haiku machine...
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Now that Haiku R1 Beta3 is out, I should move my BeShare to IRC bridge over to it, and see how well R1B3 works for long duration runs with the radio system.
<B2IA>
(Zillo) This is good, because real life apps are important to people. The problem is that new users wanna touch like brainless interfaces.
<B2IA>
(Zillo) I mean important to people connect to a OS and apps in the platform.
<B2IA>

(Zillo) Does anyone have an idea how Calligra compare to LibreOffice?
<mrentropy64>
I've never made a direct comparison of them.
<mrentropy64>
I'm still waiting for someone to clone BeProductive.

<B2IA>
(AGMS) Gobe Productive?
<bronzie94>
Calligra is a bit more simplistic, but is MS Office compatible. (Pretty fully featured if you don't want exotic features though)
<bronzie94>
Libre is a bigger beast (also MS Office Compat.) Lots of extra features, and options for screen and control layouts to match Office, other apps etc.
<mrentropy64>
Yeah. GoBe Productive. I don't know why I keep saying BeProductive.

<B2IA>
(Zillo) Thank you!
<B2IA>
(Zillo) Why some apps have a small yellow wrench tool?
<mrentropy64>
Which apps?
<Guest4724>
those are replicants
<B2IA>
(AGMS) That yellow wrench means they are a replicant and can be inserted in the deskbar or desktop I think.
<B2IA>
(Zillo) Replicants like in Blade Runner? lol
<B2IA>
(Zillo) Nice function, thank you for explanation.
<mrentropy64>
Right. You drag that wrench thing to where you want the replicant to show up.
<Guest4724>
No, it's an archived copy of a part of the app... every elf file is a share library and replicants execute in another app
<B2IA>
(Zillo) Is there a Mastodon client port in HaikuDepot?
<mrentropy64>
I'm guessing not. Are there any non-Electron clients?
