<HaikuUser> Hi
<HaikuUser> Actually I'm trying to compile an app using jam -qa but im getting a few errors with gutenprint8 not being available as well as asked for bios_ia32 target boot platform and things like that

<HaikuUser> Good Morning Begasus
<LinuxUser> @Begasus hi!
<HaikuUser> Begasus, by any chance do you know how to fix the issue I just mentioned?
<Begasus> HI LinuxUser HaikuUser
<HaikuUser> I'm having trouble compiling apps using jam -qa from the Haiku source code that I pulled off the main repository by following the instructions
<Begasus> what issue? Just logged in with Vision, haven't checked the matrix yet :)
<HaikuUser> While trying to compile DeskView as a test, I'm getting a few errors
<HaikuUser> it says gutenprint8 is missing
<HaikuUser> it also says that bios_ia32 target boot platform
<Begasus> yeah, seen that gutenprint8 warning, doesn't bail out on that here
<HaikuUser> after which it says unknown path to handle adding to image
<Begasus> I mostly only build the anyboot image though
<HaikuUser> then it tries for pxe_ia32 target boot platform and gives the same error
<Begasus> 32/64bit? what's the command you use?
<HaikuUser> i just typed in jam -qa DeskView

<Calisto> Got back to my native place as well today
<Begasus> nice! crossing fingers for a good summer there :)
<Calisto> btw if I want to test out my changes in the Find Panel... since it is a part of tracker i would need to compile the whole tracker application right?
<Calisto> or is there a way where I can just compile the 2 Files that I need? FindPanel.h and FindPanel.cpp
<Begasus> No idea Calisto, that's one for the devs :)
<Begasus> But since it's part of Tracker I would think so
<Begasus> Link objects/haiku/x86_64/release/apps/deskcalc/DeskCalc (worked here)

<Calisto> Hi
<Calisto> So I finally got everything checked out and it compiled Tracker successfully
<nielx[m]> Well that's a good start :-)
<Calisto> I made a few changes to the Find Panel. How would I exactly be able to view them?
<Calisto> like I compiled it and got the tracker app compiled
<Calisto> but unlike the other apps it doesn't pop up when I run it (probably has something to do with it being a background app?)
<Calisto> so is there some way where I can compile just the find Panel?
<nephele> you will need to restart tracker to view the new version, or run it in the test_app_sevrer
<nielx[m]> Do the changes live in Tracker, or in libtracker.so?
<nephele> unfortunately it's very integrated, also providing the desktop background, which is why it is always running
<nephele> you can stop it with launch_roster, and then start it again, the version you want, via the terminal
erysdren has joined #haiku
<zard> e.g. "launch_roster stop x-vnd.be-trak && ./your-test-tracker"
<nephele> yes, basically
erysdren has quit []
<Calisto> ohhh okay
<Calisto> so I tried the launch_roster version
<Calisto> just for testing, I set it back to the default source code without any changes
<Calisto> and used launch_roster stop x-vnd.be-trak && ./Tracker (where Tracker is in the generated/objects/haiku/x86_64/release/apps/tracker directory after compilation)
<Calisto> basically everything on the desktop vanished and neither does alt+F open up the Find Panel after clicking on some empty space. I did start the default Tracker (non-compiled one) and everything goes back to normal
<Calisto> wait ill just retry it again

<cocobean> For MediaPlayer - make a bug report so devs can track the issue.
<nephele> invidious is not a mediaplayer, it's a software to proxy youtube videos via a website
<Calisto> nephele so something is still weird.... I tried compiling a new version of Tracker using jam -q Tracker after changing the part of the code that puts the label of the button as "Search" to "Search Now" just to check whether everything is working fine. when I run the jam -q command, it does compile a new version and says that there have been updates but when I run ./Tracker after doing launch_roster stop x-vnd.be-trak it still
<Calisto> shows the old Find Panel... Could you help me out :)
<nephele> check the output of listimage to see if it is using your new libtracker, assuming the change is there
<nephele> the Tracker application uses libtracker as a shared library, it may use the system library instead
<nephele> if that is the case create a lib/ directory next to the executable and symlink your new libtracker into it
erysdren has joined #haiku
ebruce613 has left #haiku [Error from remote client]
<Calisto> ok so the output of listimage | grep libtracker shows that it all running the /boot/system/lib/libtracker.so
<Calisto> okay ill just do what you said gimme a sec
<nephele> Some applications use libtracker too afaik, the important part is if your new Tracker executable (where you are trying to open the find panel) is using the new library or not
<zard> An alternative method of launching tracker with your version of libtracker: LD_PRELOAD="/path/to/your/libtracker.so" Tracker
<nephele> zard: LIBRARY_PATH is a better idea on haiku
<cocobean> nephele: true, is the sense of it like VLC and the others though.
<nephele> cocobean, no, it is a web site. it is not a video player
* zard has never heard of LIBRARY_PATH before, looks it up
<cocobean> (I was agreeing with you)
<nephele> LIBRARY_PATH specifies where to look for shared libraries, the first entry makes it look next to the executable and the lib/ folder
<nephele> LD_PRELOAD instead tries to force the dynamic linker to load a.specific library
<nephele> cocobean, ah okay
<zard> Ah, ok
<nephele> the default entry for %A/lib (i think) makes it so much easier to give you a folder with an app in it for haiku :)
<Calisto> nephele that worked thanks a lot.. but now there's a new issue xD... I reverted back to no changes in the original source code but now there are issues with the new libtracker.so file even on recompilation
<Calisto> it says that it could not resolve symbol "_ZN13BNumberFormat12SetPrecisionEi" returned: -2147478780
<Calisto> I have no idea what's happening
<nephele> are you developing on the nightly?
<nephele> it sounnds like your new libtracker is trying to use a function from another system library that does not exist, perhaps the system library is older than what your git clone is
<Calisto> well im using the R1/beta4 ISO that I had installed
<Calisto> oh okay
<nephele> you could try putting the dependant system libraries as symlinks into the lib folder as symlinks too
<nephele> or modify the LIBRARY_PATH so it looks for the lib/ folder in your sourcetree first, before it loads any system libraries
<Calisto> oh so I should put all the system libraries as symlinks as well?
<Calisto> in the same folder?
<Calisto> the lib/ folder I created in the same directory that contains the executable
<nephele> yeah, or just modify the LIBRARY_PATH, that would have the sam effect
<Calisto> oh okay ill try modifying the LIBRARY_PATH
<Calisto> but basically to what path should I change it to... that's the part im not getting... im really really sorry for asking such stuff (insert embarrassed emoji here)
<nephele> no need to be emberassed :) if the documentation was a bit better you would not need to ask
<nephele> anyhow if you do echo $LIBRARY_PATH you can see what it is now, should be a list that is seperated by i think semicolons
<nephele> the entries are evalutated from left to right iirc, so before the first entry add an entry for the folder where your newly compiled libraries are present
<Calisto> and these libraries would be in the same folder that the newly compiled libtracker.so file is present in?
<nephele> maybe? check? :D
<Calisto> okay :) i'll try fixing it and come back here if nothing works out xD
<nephele> I didn't close xterm yesterday on my mac, opened it up, and suddenly am providing help in irc xD
<nephele> not that i mind, quite funny

<Calisto> nephele, By any chance do you know what would be the exact command required for rebuilding the locale directory under src/kits/locale
<Calisto> I was reading the error message and I did a global search for the word NumberFormat and SetPrecision
<Calisto> and it popped up in the NumberFormat.h and NumberFormat.cpp files
<PulkoMandy> It's part of libbe, so you have to rebuild all of that: jam -q libbe.so
<Calisto> I think the issue might be with the linking of these files under the locale lib
<Calisto> oh okay
<Calisto> and once i rebuild that is there any way that I can directly pass it to Tracker during compilation?
<PulkoMandy> you can create a lib/ directory next to your Tracker executable and put it there
<Calisto> okay
<Calisto> something weird happens tho when i type in jam -q libbe
<PulkoMandy> Or you can use the LIBRARY_PATH variable and prepend a directory there
<Calisto> okay so creating the lib/ directory
mmu_man has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<Calisto> and copy paste everything into that directory or use the LIBRARY_PATH and change the path itself by adding the path as the first entry at the very beginning right?
<PulkoMandy> Copy paste (or link) libbe.so (and libtracker.so if you are changing that as well) into that directory, and hut Tracker in the parent dir of it
<x512[m]> Calisto: Should be `jam -q libbe.so`.
<Calisto> yep compiled that
<Calisto> i created the symlink in the lib directory
<Calisto> to the libbe.so that was compiled and stored under release/kits/libbe.so
<nephele> Calisto, I don't really know how to figure out what the target names are for jam, sorry. usually i just guess :g
<Calisto> but on doing this and running launch_roster stop x-vnd.be-trak && ./Tracker nothing much happens.. and it doesn't start the application at all <crying emoji>
<Calisto> now im trying to edit the LIBRARY PATH
<Calisto> and ill add the release/kits/ directory to it
<Calisto> and hope it works xD
<nephele> I wonder why you keep typing out *something* emoji, you can just send an emoji if that is your wish
<zard> nephele: you can list out all of the available targets with "jam -dm 2>&1 | less"
<zard> It's a *really* long list
<nephele> that prints to stderror? or why the redirect?
<zard> It doesn't? Then no need
