<boody24[m]> hello
<boody24[m]> my internet status is disconnected in virtualbox
<boody24[m]> and it says no link
<boody24[m]> Did someone face a similar issue before?
<boody24[m]> augiedoggie: Yes I did the same
<augiedoggie> it should work if you switch network adapters
<boody24[m]> hmm
<boody24[m]> I will try that now
<coolcoder613> boody24[m]: You should know that VirtualBox doesn't work that well with Haiku
<coolcoder613> VMWare works best
<coolcoder613> QEMU is good too
<boody24[m]> Oh ok
<erysdren> i use QEMU for Haiku
<erysdren> never tried virtualbox or vmware
<boody24[m]> I will try to switch adapters if still the same issue I will move to one of them
<coolcoder613> VMWare is fastest
<coolcoder613> very snappy
<coolcoder613> Very nearly as good as running it bare metal
<boody24[m]> coolcoder613: Cool
<boody24[m]> Oh great
<boody24[m]> I switched the adapter and it works now
<coolcoder613> If you run it bare metal, even on a really slow machine, Haiku is very fast
<boody24[m]> Will I face another issues in virtualbox?
<augiedoggie> only that the performance degrades as you add more cpu cores to the VM
<boody24[m]> Should I switch to Vmware or continue with virtualbox?
<augiedoggie> so a single core VM can feel more responsive than a multi core
<augiedoggie> depends on how many cores you want to give to the VM
<boody24[m]> hmm
<coolcoder613> I once tried it on a laptop with a 1.10ghz processor and 4GB of RAM, it was the only OS that wasn't very slow
<coolcoder613> Even Linux with XFCE wasn't as snappy
<boody24[m]> coolcoder613: that's great
<boody24[m]> btw you advice me to move to VMware?
<boody24[m]> or stay with virtualbox
<boody24[m]> for now at least?
<coolcoder613> I think you should move to VMWare
<coolcoder613> But it's up to you
<boody24[m]> I mean Will face other issues?
<coolcoder613> I have heard of VBox crashing
<coolcoder613> But I mostly use Haiku on bare metal

<zdykstra> eh, I wouldn't put much weight behind his opinions. A lot of people seem to forget that developer resources aren't infinite.
<Begasus> constantly switching OS's too :)
<Anarchos> zdykstra: sure i don't mind his opinions. But he has quite an exposure...
<zard> It would certainly be nice to have more native apps. And a larger base of developers to support them. Won't happen, of course :/
<zard> Nonetheless, we continue onward with more realistic goals

<PulkoMandy> I'm a bit confused about several things in this article. First, it's "replying" to an announcement that we're going to put the (much needed, sure) effort on webkit2. So, that haiku devs are indeed still working on native apps
<PulkoMandy> I think he doesn't realize how little effort the Qt apps take for Haiku devs. It's all done at Haikuports, so what's the problem? How does it prevent anyone from working on native apps?
<Begasus> +1 there, I can't help you out there, but can spread the word on the easy parts
<PulkoMandy> And there's the option of... Just not using them? Which is what I do for the most part, but there are a few apps I'm happy to have
<Begasus> though credits go out to all those that made Qt available, that isn't an easy part
<Begasus> I'm still not sure what his main OS is, flipping through BSD's/Fedora ..
<Begasus> To me the question is rather, why should I switch to a "bloated" OS if I can do the same in Haiku ;)
<Begasus> for "my" needs*
<PulkoMandy> Yes, but that was work from 3DEyes mainly, I don't think he was an active dev on Haiku or other apps before starting to work on Qt? Really, I'm not sure how Qt apps get in the way of native ones
<PulkoMandy> There's room for both, and thepeople working on each are not the same
<Begasus> right
<Begasus> and looking at the KDE work, I think we should than miqlas for starting it off :)
<Begasus> than/thank*
<Begasus> think I've gone through all available apps in there by now, most functioning fine, some need work or wan't work/crash :)

<boody24[m]> good evening
<nosycat> Hello!
<boody24[m]> I was using webpositive normally and then clicked the top bar twice
<boody24[m]> but now when I click it from the tracker It doesn't show again
<boody24[m]> it just disappeared
<boody24[m]> but it's not killed
<boody24[m]> Is that a bug?
<Begasus> Did you try opening the running one in the Deskbar?
<nosycat> Does Haiku have roll-up windows?

<boody24[m]> * but confused it with the tracker
<Begasus> Like this? https://0x0.st/XKtX.png
<Begasus> np :)
<boody24[m]> Begasus: yep
<boody24[m]> that's what I'm doing
<boody24[m]> but nothing happens when I click it
<Begasus> that should work
<Begasus> not even "show all"?
<boody24[m]> I have a video but I don't if that's okay to send videos here
<boody24[m]> Begasus: yes it works with other apps
<boody24[m]> but not webpositive
<Begasus> url ?
<boody24[m]> just a sec
<Begasus> running nightly? maybe a regression? or ...
<boody24[m]> that's it
<boody24[m]> Begasus: I don't know what is that to be honest
<zard> Well, you can force close it by pressing ctrl+alt+shift and clicking on the program in the deskbar (aka, do the vulkan death gript :D)
<zard> s/gript/grip/
<Begasus> still works in latest nightly
<Begasus> or kill it with PC in the Deskbar
<boody24[m]> <zard> "Well, you can force close it..." <- well I did that now
<boody24[m]> and When I open it again it just runs
<Begasus> probably just hung on something
<boody24[m]> I even shut it down
<boody24[m]> But I guess the status was saved or smth
<Begasus> problem fixed :)
nosycat has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<boody24[m]> No I mean even I shut the OS completely but still the same problem
<Begasus> disapeared again?
<boody24[m]> I said I guess it's because the status is saved that's why The problem didn't get fixed
<boody24[m]> Begasus: it didn't get fixed
<boody24[m]> nothing new happens I mean
<Begasus> bugger ... needs an expert then :)
<boody24[m]> Is that a known bug?
<boody24[m]> or I'm misusing it?
<zard> You should be able to "reset" WebPositive by deleting the ~/config/settings/WebPositive/ directory
<zard> (or backing it up and restoring it if it doesn't work)
<boody24[m]> hmm ok I will try it
<boody24[m]> zard: it worked)
<boody24[m]> btw I'm interested in developing haiku
<boody24[m]> that's why I'm here
<boody24[m]> should these kind of things be reported?
<Begasus> guess it doesn't hurt, the worse that can happen is that the ticket will be closed :)
<Begasus> create ticket, add what the problem was, maybe attatch syslog ...
<Begasus> hasen't happened here, so I can't comment on it :)
<zard> If you have a way of reliably reproducing it, then, definitely. Otherwise, I guess it's up to you to decide if a bug report would be useful...
<zard> btw, welcome :-)
<boody24[m]> Begasus: I mean as I want to contribute should I report or just send patch if i have a way of solving it
<boody24[m]> zard: hmm
<boody24[m]> For this one I don't really have a way of reproducing it tbh
<boody24[m]> it happened randomly
<Begasus> boody24[m], if you can reproduce and patch I think it would be more then welcome, zard would be interested there I guess :)
<zard> If you have a patch to solve it then you can skip straight to uploading the patch.
<boody24[m]> Cool that's great
<boody24[m]> thanks :)
<zard> Begasus: Not really working on WebPositive, but rather HaikuWebKit :)
<zard> Ironically, I don't know all that much about WebPostivie
<PulkoMandy> boody24[m]: If you get it to happen again, you can save thecontent of the webpositive directory and that can be used to reproduce and investigate
<PulkoMandy> (if you have it still in your trashcan, you can recover it from there)
<PulkoMandy> without that, I think a bug report with no clear way to reproduce the problem will not be very useful
<boody24[m]> zard: thanks I also don't have something specific to add I'm just using haiku casually and exploring
<boody24[m]> If I have something to add I won't be late
<boody24[m]> PulkoMandy: okay :)
<boody24[m]> thanks for clarification
<zard> Haiku's icon format are interesting (I worked on them in the past)
<zard> Regardless, happy exploring!
<boody24[m]> zard: looks interesting
