<Begasus> g'morning peeps
<coolcoder613> Hi
LinuxUser has joined #haiku
<LinuxUser> @Begasus hi!
<coolcoder613> Hi LinuxUser
* coolcoder613 is one of the under-18s under discussion yesterday...
* coolcoder613 rummaged through the irc logs...
<coolcoder613> 🫡
<Begasus> Hi LinuxUser coolcoder613
<LinuxUser> @coolcoder613 oh i remembered this discussion in log :)
<LinuxUser> @Begasus repo is working!
<Begasus> nice LinuxUser, what was the issue?
<LinuxUser> @Begasus idk, but when i tried today, it worked
<Begasus> heh
<LinuxUser> i figured out that when i remove repo and add it again it says server not found
<Begasus> problem solved then :)
<Begasus> why remove repo?
<Begasus> dogs in a bit ...
<Begasus> biab
<LinuxUser> yesterday i thought that readding repos by removing them and adding them back will work, but it didn't. So that's why i did that
freddietilley has joined #haiku
<LinuxUser> @Begasus are you back?
<Begasus> now I am :)
<Begasus> round * on Qt5
<LinuxUser> Heh now I'm a PC master at school ;)
<LinuxUser> I've installed linux on one school pc. Hmm why I didn't install haiku... ^^.^^
<LinuxUser> No, haiku isn't for my pupils and teacher.. :)
<Begasus> it's the safe way? ;)
<LinuxUser> yes
<Begasus> they probably won't find the start menu too :P <ducks>
<LinuxUser> oh lol, they'll find it, but actually they don't need it(i put KUMIR shortcut on the desktop)
<Begasus> what's KUMIR?
<LinuxUser> So there's a computer, we learned kumir(programming language) on computers and this pc had it but it hadn't worked(win7)
<LinuxUser> KUMIR is a complex of learning worlds
<LinuxUser> in simple terms it is a programming language with Russian command(it has a Robot executor which can go up down left right and fill the current cell)
<LinuxUser> And I install antix linux(prebuilt by me) on this pc
<Begasus> kinda like kturtle?
<LinuxUser> I think yes
<LinuxUser> Then tecnology teacher wanted me to install KUMIR and Robbo Scratch 3 on laptop with Calculate Linux preinstalled
<LinuxUser> It was a little headache, because I had to reset root password(teacher didn't know it) but GRUB trick didn't work because GRUB had a password(what a heck?!) and I've resetted password using chroot and arch linux
<coolcoder613> Lesson: You can't protect a PC with anything short of full disk encryption, or a BIOS password
<LinuxUser> And this linux was gentoo based, but even without gentoo proper knowledge I managed to install KUMIR(it required qt4 but system hadn't qt4 in repos) and I directly extracted libs from debian 10
<LinuxUser> @coolcoder613 hmm yes bios password won't stop me(hehe) but if there was a LUKS encryption, it would be a pain for me
<coolcoder613> BIOS password as in you have to enter it at boot-up
<coolcoder613> every time
<LinuxUser> it is possible to escape it
<Begasus> swap jumper (at least it worked in the past iirc) :)
<LinuxUser> I wasn't allowed to disassemble laptoo

<Begasus> Most of them outside now, only the oldest one in the house
<LinuxUser> oh dogs are cute ;)
<Begasus> why doesn't qt5 pick up llvm on 32bit? :/
<Begasus> k, reverting some things, first clean the build, then switch from nightly to beta ...
<LinuxUser> @Begasus what are you doing?
<Begasus> rebuilding qt5 with newer ICU (and trying with newer LLVM)
<Begasus> already did a check on 64bit on a clean install, Qt5 can run there with ICU74 (now uses ICU66)
<Begasus> and here done a new version build for libde256/libheif/rav1e :)

<Begasus> stress with qt5, fun with rav1e
<erysdren> im still wondering about FTE
<erysdren> i have no idea what could cause that error, i feel like it must be a symptom of something... but not sure what
<Begasus> now let's see if cargo-c builds ...
<erysdren> or it could be related to the SVNREVISION block
<Begasus> no idea erysdren, beats me too :(
<Begasus> want to get this qt5 thing out of the way too :)
<erysdren> i have a big brain idea
<erysdren> im gonna remove that SVNREVISION block
<erysdren> rebuild the package, see if it works then
<erysdren> YAY it fixed it, lol
<erysdren> i need to add some metadata to the exec before i push this recipe though
<Begasus> I keep forgetting what a pain it is with rust packages

<Begasus> as in?
<erysdren> nevermind, it actually did get removed, sorry
<Begasus> if it's part of the package, it should be gone
<Begasus> ;)
<Begasus> ps, you still cp'd it to appsDir?
<Begasus> maybe it would be better to put it in $prefix/bin?
<erysdren> maybe so
<erysdren> so $binDir?
<Begasus> no, $prefix/bin :)
<Begasus> otherwise it ends up in /boot/bin/x86 on 32bit
Forza has joined #haiku
<Begasus> seeing it can be used as a cli cmd, I think it would be a better place for it (lowercase too preferably) :)
<Begasus> and link it in Deskbar with uppercase
<Begasus> hmm ... does it even do anything there without the data?
<erysdren> nope, it can play Quake and Quake II and Hexen II and Quake III
<erysdren> or custom games.
<erysdren> but it can't really do anything without game data
<Begasus> right, so best in bin then to be launched from Terminal
<erysdren> yea
<erysdren> no deskbar symlink then?
<Begasus> no, wouldn't serve any purpose there anyway
<Begasus> or you should patch it to look for a default data dir :)
<erysdren> yeh
<erysdren> i think it already makes some use of XDG
<Begasus> from what I saw in the open window it looked in / (iirc)

<Begasus> ah it was "./" where it looked for, but launching now :)
<erysdren> ok, updated it
<Begasus> ps, you can use "cmake -Bbuild -S." also, no need for "mkdir ..." etc
<erysdren> i also added SVG icon
<Begasus> just use "make -Cbuild $jobArgs" after that
<Begasus> yeah saw that
<Begasus> you can still attatch that to the binary
<erysdren> i removed the svg in the most recent push and made it in the rdef
<Begasus> ah :)
<erysdren> one last(?) push
<erysdren> testing now
<Begasus> biab
<erysdren> ok, i think its ready

<Begasus> well, could be OK on 32bit
<Begasus> can't check it there atm
<erysdren> i can check it
<erysdren> brb
<erysdren> hmm, i must have written the recipe wrong?
<erysdren> "skipping fteqw, as it is broken on the target architechture"
<erysdren> i have no idea what that means
<dovsienko> hello all. has anyone ever tried to run Haiku on a Mac mini?
<Begasus> "hp fteqw_x86"?
<erysdren> unknown target, begasus
<Begasus> not here dovsienko
<Begasus> ?
<dovsienko> (the one called "mid 2007" with Core 2 Duo and possibly 32-bit UEFI)
<dovsienko> so it is almost an Intel PC
<erysdren> haikuporter says unknown target "fteqw_x86"
<erysdren> dovsienko: sounds like it might work, i say try it
<Begasus> let me do a quick check in qemu ...

<erysdren> gonna wait to push until you maybe figure out why it doesnt build on x86 :P
<Begasus> yeah, thanks
<Begasus> seems to be OK here on 32bit
<Begasus> fetching packages now ...
<erysdren> any changes required?
<Begasus> nope, build started fine (didn't go through to the end though, still got cargo-c building)

<Begasus> rebuilding on 64bit now
<Begasus> all good, I guess you can keep the version as it is for now

<botifico> [haikuports/haikuports] erysdren aaa2c4d - Add FTEQW Engine (#10464)
<Begasus> Enjoy the gaming! :D
<erysdren> this also means a new port of Q1, Q2, Hexen 2, Q3 and many other games on haiku
<Begasus> bugger ... cargo-c failed :/
<erysdren> FTE supports a LOT of stuff
<Begasus> those are data only games? or need a build for them?
walkingdisaster has joined #haiku
<erysdren> Begasus: anything that uses QuakeC (bytecode scripting format) will work, but Quake 2 will require a build from source for the game SO
<erysdren> and Q3 probably the same? not sure.
<erysdren> Quake and Hexen II should work with just the data, same with the games ive made, since i use the stock engine binary + custom assets and QuakeC scripting

<win8linux[m]> <erysdren> "this game uses FTE, and works on..." <- There are a lot of games on itch that could work with Haiku and in theory could be packaged even, if it were not for the fact that doing the latter would require a tool to download from itch.
<win8linux[m]> I've passed on porting and packaging many games wherein the assets were only hosted on itch.
<Begasus> for those not needing packaging it wouldn't make sense to add them to haikuports (my 2 cents)

<augiedoggie> dovsienko: i have a mac mini like that, i can get haiku to boot if i build a custom boot disk but the installer crashes trying to access the internal disk
fury999io has quit []
<dovsienko> augiedoggie: did you run Haiku installer on the Mac hardware?
<augiedoggie> yes
<dovsienko> I think of installing Linux or Haiku onto a SATA SSD using a more traditional PC, and then just plugging the SSD into the Mac
<augiedoggie> i think Haiku would still crash but i haven't tried that
<augiedoggie> in any case, you need to build a "normal" disk image, not an anyboot with efi
<augiedoggie> so the mac will fall back to MBR booting
<dovsienko> one thing that stops me is that the Mac is tricky to disassemble, and another is that my Raspberry Pi hosts have more RAM and possibly about as much CPU power
fury999io has joined #haiku
<dovsienko> augiedoggie: do you mean I cannot use the .iso image from the web site?
<augiedoggie> right
<augiedoggie> if you're going to pull the disk out and install from another machine then you could use the standard Haiku iso
<dovsienko> the last time I ran BeOS on a hardware PC was around 1999
<dovsienko> thank you for the hints, maybe this will be the fist hardware Haiku host I have
<dovsienko> in any case, it would be interesting to try when I have spare time
<PetePete> phschafft: yeah, we had some tornadoes rip through here. TONS of homes damaged by trees but nothing like the Oklahoma stuff. My family was very fortunate (only one tree fell on our property and it landed on our detached garage and only damaged the vent. So blessed.
