I noticed the Install-wifi-firmwares.sh did not for work with Intel 2200. The git download path has changed. As result iprowifi2200 boot driver is missing files.

Begasus did you find a freebsd driver for it ?
<thetick1[m]>
I tried from a fully updated Haiku as Ethernet works.
<Begasus>
Anarchos, haven't hunted for one, the 32bit is connect with LAN cable
<Begasus>
so for now I'm still good
<Begasus>
thetick1[m], not sure where the package comes from

one more change needed PulkoMandy, binary is in $prefix/bin, not in $binDir :)

I wonder, when do Australians do school? During our winter or their winter?

What do you mean?
<zard>
Seasons are opposite of ours in Australia. So do you do school in the summer, when we also have school season, or in the winter?
<coolcoder613>
Summer vacation is shorter in Australia
<coolcoder613>
and we have a winter vacation as well

Begasus: regarding your extra_cmake_modules change earlier, I was wondering why ECM isn't "any" arch as a whole, given that it contains only data files, but on a second thought, it probably needs to stay architecture-specific because of the header and library paths, which contain the secondary architecture (so the contents are actually different)
<jmairboeck>
or does it actually? "grep -R x86" in /boot/system/data/cmake/modules/ECM doesn't seem to yield anything relevant
rennj has joined #haiku
<jmairboeck>
there are build dependencies that use $secondaryArchSuffix though, so making it actually "any" arch is probably a bit more complicated, and I'm not sure if it would be worth the effort.
ClaudioM has quit [Quit: leaving]
<Begasus>
jmairboeck, it's been that way from the beginning I think, hasen't crossed my mind :)
<Begasus>
ah, think it "needs" gcc iirc on a previous attempt trying to leave out Qt
<Begasus>
but as it's used for every kde recipe I also think it includes paths needed for those (so it's probably declaring them inline)?
x10z has joined #haiku
<jmairboeck>
it apparently doesn't contain any actual literal include paths, as I ran that grep command on 32 bit, and got no headers paths back
<jmairboeck>
I would have expected "develop/headers/x86/..." and similar things
<Begasus>
yeah, was my initial thought too
<jmairboeck>
but it is no big deal that it is arch specific, so probably not worth trying to "fix" that
<Begasus>
nah, gave it a quick look back then, just left it as is (just saw that it didn't create the documentation, so added that)
<Begasus>
GwenView 24.04.80 still good :)
<jmairboeck>
I was just wondering because I saw the ARCHITECTURES_doc="any" line
<Begasus>
right, but seems buildmaster still made it _x86

PriyanshuGupta[m]: Hello, sorry I had a choir rehearsal at the time of the official announcement. Not sure I have a lot of useful feedback, we got several very good applications this year (more than usual) and not enough mentors to accept all of them

* i think only you could have mentor my project if selected :)
<PulkoMandy>
I'm sorry that it ends up this way. I think you made good progress on understanding and cleaning the xfs code. This would have been selected in past years easily, but this year we had slightly better proposals from other students and had to make a decision
<PulkoMandy>
I think other people in haiku also know about filesystems. But either they areassigned to other students, or they don't have time for mentoring this year (most of us are working on haiku on our free time, besioes having a full time paid job, and for some developers, also a family to care for or other things to do)
<PriyanshuGupta[m]>
thanks for your feedback
<PriyanshuGupta[m]>
i had learned a lot from all the community
<Habbie>
i work for a company and we did GSoC last year, and this year we decided we just did not have the time
<Habbie>
so i fully understand that a bunch of volunteers have limits
<PriyanshuGupta[m]>
i appreciated your suggestions and valuable feedback
<PriyanshuGupta[m]>
Now, I've end semester exams, and probably I would be looking for a summer internship since it's compulsary for course creditsm, and then again the hectic semester would start. I would keep on hanging out here and use haiku ;)
<PriyanshuGupta[m]>
And yep, I hope we can work on this project next year :)

“What do you mean?” he said. “Do you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good moming whether I want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on?”

Hello. I'm trying to repurpose an old laptop with Haiku, but after it completes the boot process, the initial screen is too dark for me to see, and I can't adjust the brightness from the keyboard. So does that make Haiku unusable in my case?
<rennj>
echo "100" /dev/proc/brightness
<coolcoder613_32>
Is it off, or just too dark?
<rennj>

<RobinHood2024>

try ubuntu/pop-os/fedora perhaps
<coolcoder613_32>
/kick rennj
<coolcoder613_32>
Well, you could try failsafe video mode
<coolcoder613_32>
when you boot up, spam the spacebar (or enter or shift (i'm not sure which)) to enter the boot menu
<RobinHood2024>
Right, I'll give that a go here in a mo.
<coolcoder613_32>
Is the Haiku logo visible when it boots?
<RobinHood2024>
Yep, I can see that, and the seven icons below it.
<coolcoder613_32>
full brightness?
<RobinHood2024>
Yep, that part of the sequence is at full brightness -- it's only when it goes to the installation screen that it goes to almost total darkness.
<coolcoder613_32>
Well once you're in the boot menu, you can try choosing a fail-safe video mode
<coolcoder613_32>
and making sure it will use it in debug options
<RobinHood2024>
Yeah, I did try other distros before, but I guess they're too much for my old machine to handle since they cause the machine to reboot for no reason whatever
<RobinHood2024>
I mean, I just don't want to give up on an old machine just because its operating system is dead
