nephele, I tried everything that I could think of.. I tried creating symlinks in the ./lib as well as tried prepending the directories.. There is something missing at every step of the way... first it showed that libbe.so wasn't there then libroot.so then libgcc_s.so.1
<Calisto-Mathias>
Am I doing something wrong or should I try compiling the entire source code one time?

@Begasus i'm back\
<LinuxUser>
back*
<augiedoggie>
Calisto-Mathias: you created the lib directory in generated/objects/haiku/x86_64/release/apps/tracker/lib ?
<Begasus>
wb LinuxUser
<Calisto-Mathias>
yep
<augiedoggie>
and the symlinks inside of it are valid? they point to actual files?
<Calisto-Mathias>
augiedoggie i created it in that location and then i created the symlinks using ln -s
<Calisto-Mathias>
when i did create a symlink to only the libtracker.so file it gave me an issue saying that Number12Format SetPrecision was not found and symbol not found error
<Calisto-Mathias>
so I tried looking for that function and found it in the NumberFormat.h and NumberFormat.cpp files which are compiled under libbe.so so i created a symlink for that file as well in the same directory
<Calisto-Mathias>
the symlink for libbe.so points to haiku/generated/objects/haiku/x86_64/release/kits/libbe.so
<augiedoggie>
it runs now but you don't see the changes or it's still crashing?
<Calisto-Mathias>
basically when I try to run the application using ./Tracker it just doesn't output anything to the console and gives me the option to type in a new command. Neither does anything on the desktop pop up again and I can't use alt+f to open the find panel either
<Calisto-Mathias>
i tried creating the symlinks using both absolute paths as well as relative paths but both aren't working...
<Calisto-Mathias>
if i remove the libbe.so symlink it crashes giving me the symbol not found error and if I include the libbe.so symlink, it doesn't run anything at all :(
<augiedoggie>
so, i would just double check that it's actually stopped with `roster | grep Tracker` but i don't think that's the problem
<augiedoggie>
my suggestion would be to upgrade to a nightly build of Haiku, iirc you said you were on beta4
<Calisto-Mathias>
yup
<Calisto-Mathias>
im on beta4
<Calisto-Mathias>
so the best option is to re-install the nightly build on the system and then try right?
<augiedoggie>
you can switch to a nightly without reinstalling
<Begasus>
oh! trackpad works again (out of the blue) :P
<Calisto-Mathias>
yes
<Calisto-Mathias>
the same thing happened to me xD
<augiedoggie>
there might be some information in /var/log/syslog about why it's not running too
<Calisto-Mathias>
okay augiedoggie im switching to the nightly build now
<Calisto-Mathias>
hopefully it works after that :)
<Calisto-Mathias>
oh okay ill check that out as well
<Begasus>
mostly from beta to nightly it's fine
<Begasus>
from nightly to beta can be tricky (led me a few times to re-installing the system)
<augiedoggie>
yeah, but a lot of your packages are compiled locally on your PC which means they depend on the newer hrev of Haiku
<augiedoggie>
so, downgrading would be a big hassle for your
<augiedoggie>
you*
<Begasus>
right, but mostly it's Tracker crashing on launch here*
<Begasus>
for the record, most of my packges are build on beta ;) (I hardly use nightlies, only in qemu these days)
Calisto-Mathias has quit [Quit: Vision[]: i've been blurred!]
<Begasus>
launched a build for LLVM17 yesterday on 32bit, maybe it's done by tomorrow
<Begasus>
my guess there is that qt-creator relies on the cmake files while qt5 relies on llvm-config*
Calisto has joined #haiku
<Calisto>
Heyy
<Calisto>
augiedoggie, do the nightlies only run on a few devices?
<augiedoggie>
no, should be the same or more than the beta
<Calisto>
I followed the steps on the link
<Calisto>
But now it doesn't boot up haiku anymore :( it's just stuck on a dark screen? Is it issues with the installation?
DKnoto has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<augiedoggie>
are you running Haiku in a virtual machine or on real hardware?
<Calisto>
That I had on beta4?
<Calisto>
Real hardware
<Calisto>
Nota a VM
DKnoto has joined #haiku
<Calisto>
It's running on a Dell Inspiron 15
<augiedoggie>
were you booting with EFI or using older MBR?
<Calisto>
EFI
<augiedoggie>
you'll probably need to update the bootloader then
<augiedoggie>
you should be able to boot the previous revision by holding space at boot and choosing the previous hrev
<Calisto>
Basically whats happening is the haiku logo comes up and the loading symbols pop up... All get filled with the colors then it goes on an empty dark screen
MisthaLu has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<Calisto>
Okay I'll try that
<augiedoggie>
if the older state boots then you'll have to extract the new bootloader manually since it won't be one of the active packages :/
<Calisto>
Okay so in the bootloader it shows that it's on hrev56578+59
<Calisto>
And gives me the options to select boot volume as the Haiku partition
<Calisto>
And it says haiku: (current: latest state)
<augiedoggie>
yeah, change that to the previous version
<Calisto>
Okay so basically the 2024-05-28 07:09:47 edition? And it worked
<augiedoggie>
you're booted into Haiku?
<Calisto>
And now it booted so .. its on the nightly build now?
<augiedoggie>
no, you're back to beta4
<Calisto>
Aah :(
<augiedoggie>
you need to find the updated haiku_loader.hpkg file and extract the newer bootloader
<augiedoggie>
or boot from a newer live cd and then copy it from there
<augiedoggie>
hold on a sec
<Calisto>
Okayy ... My keyblard and trackpad don't work as well now :(
<Calisto>
Would it be easier to reinstall a new ISO?
<augiedoggie>
you should be able to install it over the older one and then it should be able to boot either beta4 or nightly
<augiedoggie>
you may need to rename the file too

Okay i downloaded and replaced the EFI file
<Begasus>
fingers crossed :)
<Calisto>
Okay so even with the newer bootloader it still just gets stuck on a dark screen 🙁
<augiedoggie>
hmm
<Calisto>
Would this be easier if I reinstalled the haiku iso in mbr mode? Without EFI?
Calisto has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<augiedoggie>
one of these days Haiku will handle EFI properly :/
<Begasus>
+1 (it's been a pain for quite some time yes, hence me not fidling with this install using EFI)
* augiedoggie
needs to head off to bed
<Begasus>
can I turn off trackpad again? :P
<Begasus>
cu
<augiedoggie>
he'll probably end up having to reinstall :(
<Begasus>
hope he's using a seperate work partition
<augiedoggie>
he can still boot into beta4, so it should be possible to save his work
DKnoto has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<augiedoggie>
move it somewhere else while he reinstalls a nightly
<Begasus>
yeah, good thing that he can still do that
<Begasus>
people swear with trackpad, I hate that little bugger always getting in the way (when it works) :)
<augiedoggie>
well, hopefully the beta still boots after he replaced the bootloader
<Begasus>
heh
<augiedoggie>
anyhow
<augiedoggie>

Heyyy.... what version of python should I install... i was finally able to clone everything and want to check out whether Tracker finally compiles. While running ./configure, its giving me the error that no python interpreter exists.
<CalistoMathias>
I have no idea why its giving me that error since it never popped up...
<CalistoMathias>
This is on the nightly install by the way (hrev57740)... I also did try running pkgman sync-full to check whether everything was up to date
walkingdisaster has quit [Quit: Vision[]: i've been blurred!]
<zard>
Strange... I don't think the version matters, latest should be fine.
<CalistoMathias>
yup I checked by running pkgman install python3.9 and it is already installed
<zard>
Ok, got the error? (If it's large, put it in a pastebin such as https://bpa.st/ and only paste the link)
<CalistoMathias>
nevermind I found a solution to it... it was just cuz python wasn't invoking hte python compiler
<CalistoMathias>
while python3.9 was
<CalistoMathias>
so in the configure script, i just added the condition to include python3.9 and it configured successfully

bbl. If it's done compiling when I come back, ccache will have definitely have made a difference

sadly the headers trick webkit does also makes ccache less usefull
