<phschafft> given a nice kernel it's also between dd and the kernel, as the block sizes on the device in no way need to match those dd is doing.
<phschafft> the kernel can just read ahead as much as it likes; and for writing down it can queue the writes until out of memory to keep the dirty pages around.
<phschafft> so the exact value shouldn't matter too much. however 512 bytes will still mean a lot of syscalls, which is slow.
<dovsienko> thank you for explaining my earlier comment
<dovsienko> time to call it a day, folks. have a good time
<phschafft> have a good night.

<Begasus> eeps ... long time ago slapdoge[m], maybe some with knowlidge can chime in when they are around :)
<rennj> well on linux not all nic drivers support spoofing the mac. really doesnt matter first router strips the mac anyway
<rennj> athk cards good
<rennj> echo 00$(head /dev/urandom | tr -dc a-f0-9 | sed 's/\(..\)/:\1/g;' | cut -c1-15)
<slapdoge[m]> rennj: What will this do?
<rennj> 00:79:bd:29:43:ed
<rennj> 00:87:52:79:7f:e5
<rennj> echo "hello world"
<slapdoge[m]> ooh thats cool
<rennj> openssl rand -hex 6 | sed "s/\(..\)/\1:/g; s/.$//"
<rennj> same thing
<rennj> first router strips the mac anyway
<rennj> your are not anonymous on network
<rennj> cisco netflow traffic/pcaps..let alone hoover everything tcpdump/wireshark
<slapdoge[m]> Yeah well im blocked on this network by mistake and the only way of accessing internet is by changing my mac
<rennj> well check the oui tables..pick a mac of some known company
<slapdoge[m]> oui tables?
<rennj> Find the vendor name of a device by entering an OUI or a MAC address
<rennj> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAC_address the numbers having meaning
<rennj> Assigned by IEEE, but uses a unique 3-octet company ID (CID) instead of an OUI.
<rennj> like cisco,intel,amd,3com,
<slapdoge[m]> I guess I will just stick with linux then

<phschafft> slapdoge[m]: it is generally safe to keep the first byte and use random for the rest.
<phschafft> the important part is that you keep the flags the same that are in the first byte.
<zard> Well, I can't find a way to change MAC address
