Hi. Cool. I am on the latest nightly
<andreasdr>
Something with UEFI boot seems to be broken though. I use the BETA3 UEFI. But can boot into latest nightly with it.
<jessicah>
the latest UEFI loader doesn't work?
<jessicah>
andreasdr: what's the symptoms?
<andreasdr>
Black screen. Nothing happens.
<jessicah>
you can't get into the boot menu by pressing spacebar?
<andreasdr>
I can check again. Give me 15 mins
<andreasdr>
I just got a black screen and did not investigate further.
<andreasdr>
Because I knew this from last nighlies that UEFI boot would show black screen
B2IA has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<jessicah>
there shouldn't be any major changes to the UEFI loader since beta3
<andreasdr>
Thats strange. I tried at least 3 nightlies and all would not boot.
<andreasdr>
Then I booted with BETA3 UEFI the newest nighly today and it did boot
<jessicah>
do you have the hrev of the ones you tried?
<andreasdr>
No. Now I am on 55608.
<andreasdr>
I may have the downloads still on 2 computers spreaded
<andreasdr>
I can check
<jessicah>
it will help narrow down any potential regressions
<andreasdr>
Also I changed my Engine TDME2 on Haiku to use GLFW3. It works but does not support setting application icon. Also useing the clipboard is not yet implemented.
<andreasdr>
Ill boot my other PCs and check the downloads. Also I try to boot current nightly and press spacebar.
<andreasdr>
See you in 15 mins

<andreasdr>
So.
<andreasdr>
I just booted my Windows machine.
<andreasdr>
Before I tried to do spacebar on latest Haiku UEFI boot
<andreasdr>
I see nothing on screen. Its black. No matter what I do. But the computer is not halted or crashed as I can use NUMLOCK to toggle NUMLOCK light
<andreasdr>
So maybe something with graphics output only?
<andreasdr>
Let me check my downloads here
<andreasdr>
Looks like I downloaded on my windows machine 55476, 55459 and I tried them both and they did not work.
<andreasdr>
Let me check my MacBoook.
<jessicah>
are you able to try hrev55430 or earlier?
<andreasdr>
Yes. I can try 55430
<andreasdr>
Give me 10 Mins
<andreasdr>
Also seems like I deleted the Haiku nightlies on my MacBoook or I did not downloaded them there.
<andreasdr>
Ok. Ill flash a 55430
<andreasdr>
There is 55436 or 55427
<andreasdr>
Which one?
<andreasdr>
Earlier would mean 55436?
<andreasdr>
Or 55427?
<jessicah>
55427
<andreasdr>
Ok.
<andreasdr>
Download takes about 20 minutes

<jessicah>
I haven't seen an older commit worth testing
<jessicah>
oh that's not true
<jessicah>
uh, try hrev55220 or earlier
<andreasdr>
Go ahead
<andreasdr>
Yes. Let me check
<andreasdr>
hrev55219
euandreh has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<andreasdr>
This one, right?
euandreh has joined #haiku
<jessicah>
yup
<andreasdr>
Ok I try 55219.
<andreasdr>
Again 20 minutes
<andreasdr>
to wait :D
<jessicah>
no worries
<andreasdr>
:D
<jessicah>
and if that one doesn't work, another is hrev55016 or earlier
<andreasdr>
Ok. I have time and like to help.
<jessicah>
bootloaders can be finicky :p
<andreasdr>
For sure!!!
<andreasdr>
I guess OS development in general :D
<andreasdr>
Its btw. not my internet connection. I have 300mbs. Its the haiku build server thats that slow.
<andreasdr>
I usually dont care. But for testing it takes a little bit long. Whatever :D
<jessicah>
oh, I'm aware
<andreasdr>
No worrrries
<andreasdr>
Ah Ok.
<jessicah>
if I were still on my gigabit fiber, I would be hosting a package mirror
<jessicah>
I miss having fiber :(
<andreasdr>
You had it once? Nice.
<jessicah>
yeah, ended up having to move, and no fiber available
<andreasdr>
Oh damn.
<jessicah>
and now I'm moving to my mums, and that's a little bit outside of the city, so that's only got like ADSL
<andreasdr>
I just share www with my neighbour. So I cant just do everything I want with it.
<andreasdr>
:(
<jessicah>
so it's like maybe 10Mbit max >_<
<andreasdr>
Thats slooooooooow
<andreasdr>
:(((
<jessicah>
it was unlimited fiber, I would regularly go through >1TB/month :p
<andreasdr>
Thats crazy
<andreasdr>
:D
<jessicah>
haha, yeah... aging copper, best can get out there
<jessicah>
it was epic
<jessicah>
could download a full movie in like 5 minutes
<andreasdr>
Crazyyyyyyyyyy
<jessicah>
pick a movie, go make a cup of tea, then settle down and watch :D
<andreasdr>
Nice.
<jessicah>
they now have 4gig fiber available now in town...
<mrentropyvcs>
I had to give up on FocusWriter. The lack of single quotes killed me. I switched to GhostWriter. Other than that, NaNoWriMo on Haiku is still a go.
<jessicah>
although was hard enough to saturate gigabit fiber... maybe in a big flat with other people, could see the advantage of 4gig
<andreasdr>
Thats really crazy. I am totally fine with 300mbs for my use cases. Sometimes I have trouble. People say they just build up too many houses here in Berlin in a too short time. But now it works again for 2 months or so.
<jessicah>
mrentropyvcs: haha, I couldn't handle the borked apostrophes for more than a minute, I'd be like "yeah, fuck this, I'd rather use nano"
<andreasdr>
So you are a author?
<andreasdr>
Whats focus writer?
<andreasdr>
Oh I messed the messages up :D
<mrentropyvcs>
jessicah: I tried using the back tick for a while but I was like, no, I'm done.
<andreasdr>
FocusWriter GhostWriter? I am confused :D But welcome :)
<jessicah>
mrentropyvcs: that's just awkward :p although you could just drag the backtick to a different location on your keyboard with the Keymap app
<mrentropyvcs>
andreasdr: No, I just write as a hobby. FocusWriter and GhostWriter are... "low distraction" word processors.
<andreasdr>
Ok. Sir. Whatever makes you happy If you can. Thats at least my point of view :)
<jessicah>
I'd guess they have very little formatting, so the focus is on the text, not the visuals?
<mrentropyvcs>
jessicah: It's easier just to switch applications.
<jessicah>
mrentropyvcs: indeed :p
<mrentropyvcs>
They have full screen modes so you don't get to see anything else on the screen, to keep your attention on what you're doing. FocusWriter has other things, like word count and word/time goals and what not, which I'm sorry to lose.
<andreasdr>
Jessica may I ask in which city do you move now. I like to travel by google maps sometimes. So I would have a look at your new city :DDD
<mrentropyvcs>
So, the pen is still in motion and I'm off to bed. I bid you all a good... whatever time of day it happens to be where you are.
<jessicah>
whanganui, new zealand

<andreasdr>
Nice. New Zealand. Let me check
<andreasdr>
Thats mega coool. Looks like a sunny country side small city.
<andreasdr>
At the seeeeeeeaaaaaaa

<andreasdr>
Thats true. I can not connect this to a cause in this small context.
<andreasdr>
Removing iterators in loops can be a issue.
<andreasdr>
No concrete idea, but in C++ STL it does trouble
<andreasdr>
Whatever you will find a solution.
<andreasdr>
Ill go to bed now :)
<andreasdr>
If you want to test me again after a fix, please tell me.
<andreasdr>
Jessicah: My email is andreas@drewke.net, if you want to test me a fix.
<jessicah>
do you run linux at all?
<andreasdr>
Yes. From time to time. Most of the time I am using FreeBSD.
<andreasdr>
But sometimes I use linux.
<jessicah>
I'd also like a copy of your syslog on a successful boot
<andreasdr>
If I am doing Vulkan development I use Windows.
<jessicah>
are you using MBR or GPT partition scheme?
<andreasdr>
GPT in Haiku case.
<jessicah>
you can send to me at jessica.l.hamilton@gmail.com; in Haiku case? you have two or more disks?
<jessicah>
I'd also like output from gdisk/gptfdisk of your partition tables
<andreasdr>
I have like 5 SSDs each containing a Operating System (Windows, Haiku, Linux sometimes, OpenBSD sometimes, ...)
<andreasdr>
And FreeBSD of course
<andreasdr>
Ill send you a syslog
<andreasdr>
Right now
<andreasdr>
Oh. The Haiku SSD has only a GPT with FAT for UEFI and BFS for Haiku main partition
<andreasdr>
Nothing special
<jessicah>
ah, interesting, definitely an atypical setup :p
<andreasdr>
Oh. Nice.
<jessicah>
well, I'd like gpt/mbr partition info for all drives
<andreasdr>
So syslog first?
<andreasdr>
I can send in 5 minutes
<andreasdr>
But I was trying your boot media, so you do layout them
<andreasdr>
Can I dump them somehow in Haiku?
<andreasdr>
As I do boot it next in 2 mins?
<jessicah>
any order
<jessicah>
haiku doesn't have command line tool, but the syslog should have it scanning all the partitions
<jessicah>
but I'd also like it from a linux/bsd partitioning tool to compare
<andreasdr>
I think in the moment I do not have a linux installation. Let me send you the syslog of Haiku in a few mins. Oh Ok. First syslog from Haiku. Give me 5 mins
andreasdr has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<andreasdr>
I would need to install a linux to run those cli programs to determine their parsed harddrive layouts. Its too late for that right now.
<andreasdr>
I can do tomorrow.
<andreasdr>
Is that OK for you?
<jessicah>
tomorrow is fine
<andreasdr>
Nice. Ill do.
<andreasdr>
Does the pastebin help already?
<andreasdr>
Or is it missing something?
<andreasdr>
Also I like to add that I was not the only one having this issue. I remember other people in chat telling that they could not boot nightlies using UEFI.
<andreasdr>
I ll grab some sleep now.
<andreasdr>
Thank you!

but I think it could be even better if you added the extra leaves

from the white one
<bparker_>
it might also be neat to somehow integrate the window decoration onto the disc design... maybe like have that big url be a screenshot of the same text inside a text editor

Hi, I want to install Haiku as well as a Linux and some BSDs all to the same disk. As I dislike grub2 very much, is it possible to have the Haiku's boot loader to boot all those systems?

<Skipp_OSX>
can I get a quick complaint in that Appearance is WAY too wide in Spanish and French and we need to either put a new line in to push the numbers and extra characters down or take them out.
<Skipp_OSX>
I guess the numbers are just in French but it's way too wide in Spanish without numbers so I guess we need to limit the width regardless of the text by wrapping.
