[haiku/haiku] 493b3fc40970 - bus_managers/fdt: check for NULL
<shaka444[m]>
is there any work being done on getting x86 apps to run in x86_64? I'd love to have 3dMix running here..
<shaka444[m]>
That would also Unify the OS so we wouldn't have to have seperate builds.
<Diver>
nope, nobody is working on it
<shaka444[m]>
bummer
<shaka444[m]>
I guess I could install x86 on another drive in the same machine
<shaka444[m]>
Ahh if I could only find the source for 3dMix ;-) I actually emailed Benoit S. about it and he said he'd look for it
<Diver>
it should be quite easy to find source code for it
<shaka444[m]>
where might I start?
<Diver>
but it won't compile on 64bits without fixing it
<shaka444[m]>
yep

<shaka444[m]>
Yoiu were right Diver :-D
<nephele>
shaka444: I don't think it would unify anything, x86 compat on amd64 is not the same as x86 mode normally
<nephele>
There is a review for kernel compatibility mode for 32bit binaries on gerrit

<nephele>
waddlesplash: for compat mode, your idea would also be neat for other architectures, we can use qemu for single processes and have native system calls (i think that's called qemu user mode or so?)
<waddlesplash>
yeah, qemu-user
<waddlesplash>
Diver: what do you mean source code should be easy to find for 3dmix?
<Mrten[m]1>
I must say that porting is really easy, just got CLion working in Haiku 😊
<waddlesplash>
it's really easy once we've already done all the hard work of porting openjdk :-p
<nephele>
)
<nephele>
Would be cool to have a MIME type for jar files, and a way for openjre java to automatically execute it (as it would with java -jar myjar.jar
<Diver>
waddlesplash: it's been floating around the internet
<waddlesplash>
Diver: probably a leak, not legal, and we can't touch it
<waddlesplash>
nephele: we do have a mime type
<waddlesplash>
but it doesn't work because nobody made a launcher or fixed B_ARGV_ONLY
<Diver>
yes, we can't
<nephele>
what's to fix for B_ARGV_ONLY?
<waddlesplash>
it doesn't work, RefsReceived is still called anyway
<waddlesplash>
there's a ticket
Diver has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
<waddlesplash>
actually I made the ticket because I was trying to write a shell script launcher for jar files lol
<nephele>
The BeBook sais that it will instead give the BMessage for argv received
<waddlesplash>
the be book may be wrong here
<waddlesplash>
but read the ticket history
<nephele>
but... that's not calling the app with argv arguments directly, so i really don't see how this is usefull for unaware C apps
<nephele>
Please don't use shell scripts for launchers of anything...
<nephele>
I can't find the reference in the BeBook, maybe i misremembered that ... :)
x10z has joined #haiku
<nephele>
waddlesplash: it would explain why using love2d as a recepient directly didn't work, but the fix of just removing B_ARGV_ONLY is better anyway (SDL reads atleast some BMessages, and does something usefull with them...)

<shaka444[m]>
what is tracker_shelf in /boot/home/config/settings/Tracker?
<nephele>
shaka444: I think that config file is for replicants, not 100% sure though
<shaka444[m]>
Im having this issue with the Trashcan being a regular folder icon when I boot- until I either empty trash or put something in it, then it goes back to normal. I'm wonering what config file I could delete that might fix it
<nephele>
None, it's a bug
<shaka444[m]>
have you experienced it nephele?
<nephele>
No, but i follow the bugtracker :)
<shaka444[m]>
I reported the bug
<nephele>
Unless you manually edited config files i don't think just removing them is a good solution, it just makes it harder to figure out what is wrong
<nephele>
if you move a config file out of the place it is read from and the bug disapears you could upload that file so the config can be replicated
<Mrten[m]1>
waddlesplash, shaka444: thank you both!
<shaka444[m]>
nephele ok I'm going to start by moving TrackerSettings file and see if that helps (then I'll try tracker_shelf I guess)

just added to the ticket- when I moved tracker_shelf to trash the trash icon stayed a regular folder icon even when I deleted trash. (previously it would revert back to trash icon)

Ok I got it- now when I first moved something to the trash, thus letting the icon revert to the proper Trash icon, Then moved tracker_shelf to trash and rebooted, the folder icon is now correct.

oh... begasus posted an issue with some lua software, it explains my own build failure for luasocks hehe
<nephele>
ironically, the easiest fix is to build it with haikuports instead probably, so... i'll just do that and then i can annoy begasus with a new recipe

Hi can I enable debug loggin to screen while booting wihtout accessing it by pressing space while booting? Like in kernel settings file?
<B2IA>
(AGMS) konrad, there doesn't seem to be a setting for that. The next best thing is to turn on serial debug output in ~/config/settings/kernel/drivers/kernel , if you can read it (real hardware or VirtualBox work).
<konrad>
B2IA tnx. I guess it would be good. I can mount the USB memory and add settings to kernel. But It hangs if I press [space] during boot
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Maybe edit the kernel settings to use safe video mode? Though it's using plain text mode for the pre-boot menu so I don't know what's going on there.

B2IA Yeah I did, turned off smp, and other stuff but still the same KDL.
