I have some successful experiments to eliminate BBitmap buffer in WebKit and render directly with vector commands.

You can lock thread in BView::Draw, release looper lock, acquire looper lock in another thread, render there and unlock BView::Draw when finished.

I'm not sure if it can work this way for webkit2 (I think rendering would be in a separate process from on-screen BView in that case?). But something where the "rendering" just prepares a BPicture and the display app renders it may work. I need to learn more about the webkit2 architecture however (and make sure what I know is still up to date)

Haikuwebkit draws much faster with this change :o, but the flickering is quite annoying, but a nice improvement if we can fix that

there are 3 cases already, the 'inva' message, and two cases in SetOffscreenViewClean (immediate or not). maybe one or more of these should not actually invalidate the view because the offscreen bitmap is not fully painted yet

I see that Zink is DRI driver `zink_dri.so`. But Haiku Mesa OpenGL don't use DRI drivers, it have some custom add-on system instead. Why DRI add-on system was not used? I checked some DRI add-on and found no dependencies on X11 or Wayland.

kallisti5 wrote the add-on system to be able to switch between swrast and llvmpipe driver and I think he started from our previous swrast only code and just added an add-on interface where it made sense to cut one

at the time DRI was not so clean and relied on X11 I think, but probably that was cleaned up to prepare for Wayland support and now it has been fixed

Probably Mesa loader and DRI should be fixed first to get Zink working.

I think the problem at the time was dependency on X11 (Wayland didn't exist) but this has probably been solved in current Mesa versions. So yes, we should remove the old add-on system and use DRI interface now
