<Niklas[m]> Is it still impossible to boot Haiku with a 32Bit UEFI?I only found some older threads in the forum.I have a small low-power tablet which has only a 32Bit UEFI,but 64Bit CPU.Linux hangs up before it comes to the GNOME desktop (probably 1GB RAM is just too less, but it isn't upgradeable) and so it has been laying around for months or years without being used.Would be interesting to try Haiku on it.
<Diver> Niklas[m]: it's still not possible but it might be near? https://discuss.haiku-os.org/t/my-haiku-arm-uefi-port-progress/10736/96
<Niklas[m]> No,it has a Intel Atom x86 CPU,not ARM
<Niklas[m]> On ARM I wouldn't even try that on a mainstream tablet due to proprietary Kernels and missing drivers
<Diver> yes, but I think this patch enables 32bit loader to work https://review.haiku-os.org/c/haiku/+/4675
<Diver> I mean it's not arm specific

<nephele> Would be cool if haiku had captive portal detection... maybe "just" registering a specific known DNS name, and trying to resolve it would work
<nephele> as in, a dummy entry with a known value and if it does not return this value we know it is a captive portal
<Anarchos> nephele how to others recognize ?
Gaspare has joined #haiku
<nephele> Anarchos: I don't understand the question
<Anarchos> nephele how do others browsers/OS recognize the captive portals ?
<nephele> I think they try to contact a server directly, probably a similar way
<nephele> sadly there is no "good" way to detect them, but i'm trying to think of a way that would not let haikus servers get unecesary data
<Anarchos> nephele ping google ?
<nephele> that sounds pretty bad Anarchos
<nephele> for one now google has data from haiku users for no reason
<nephele> and for another, just because "whatever i resolved to google.com" answered does not give any indication of if it is a captive portal or not, the server would likely answer to a ping even if it is a captive portal
<nephele> I think either specific data for dns entries, or specific data returned from a https server can be used to detect this
<nephele> but i'm only speculating for DNS, I don't know if anyone implemented captive portal detection like that
<Anarchos> nephele i can't help, i am not skilled in networking
<nephele> It seems ios 14 implements a specific protocol for captive portals aswell: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/draft-ietf-capport-rfc7710bis
Vidrep_64 has joined #haiku
<nephele> it's a router advertisement or dhcp4/dhcp6 based protocol
<nephele> might make sense to implement this in Haiku and see if it is enough
<nephele> also a JSON based api based on this which gives some info like how much time is remaining for the connection, would be fancy to display this in network preferences
<nephele> I'll put this on my todo, sounds fun to work on :3

<BGA> Hey!
<BGA> waddlesplash: Around?
<waddlesplash> BGA: yes
<waddlesplash> sup?
<BGA> waddlesplash: Just wondering if there are any currently known bugs with xhci?
<BGA> My NUC8 is crashing on boot and it *LOOKS* like it is xhci relayed.
<BGA> I have not been able to boot it for a while now.
<BGA> (Running on a VM currently)
<waddlesplash> what hrev?
<waddlesplash> because I fixed a ton of xhci items in September/October
<waddlesplash> including numerous crashes
<BGA> I just literally tried with the last nightly. 55668
<waddlesplash> got a picture?
<BGA> Not yet, but I will take a picture of the KDL screen. Also I want to confirm it is xhci first. The error is weird and the top of the stack seems to be an open() call.
<BGA> But triggered during input_server startup apparently.
<waddlesplash> hmm
<BGA> (Maybe it could also be an nvme issue)
<waddlesplash> oh, that possible also
<BGA> Ok. I will double check later today, take a picture of the actual KDL and ping you again.
<waddlesplash> there's an nvm crash I have an open patch set for, but so far it only reproduced for kallisti5 and he hasn't tested whether the patch fixed it
<BGA> Thnaks.
<waddlesplash> very good

<waddlesplash> ugh
<waddlesplash> try disabling SMP and use onscreen debug output, paging disabled as it probably won't work
<BGA> That is the main reason I am asking for help. Not being able to use the keyboard at all in KDL and with a crash during boot makes it very difficult to do any debugging whatsoever.

<BGA> Ok. I can try. Are you looking for something specific?
<waddlesplash> hmm wait
<waddlesplash> any chance you have any USB related drivers in non packaged?
<waddlesplash> this looks like it is actually something more like a stack incompatibility
<waddlesplash> BGA: please try Disable User Add-ons instead, in the bootloader. if that has no effect, try unplugging all mice and keyboards and other inputs and see if it then boots
