8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
<LegendaryAmerican>
Its a good thing we believe in new life huh.
<Skipp_OSX>
very good except the word sorcerers is actually φαρμακεύς or pharmakeus which is closer to pharmacist or drug maker.

the sense was the witch of endor was a charlitan anyhow.. as drug highs are a form of charlitanship
<Skipp_OSX>
helps to look at the greek and hebrew to get the underlying meaning
<LegendaryAmerican>
its also why prophesy is known to us as clearly not simple prediction because of such things.. those that can make you believe things which arent true. but The Will of God is prophesy.

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it
<Skipp_OSX>
and of course John 14:6

goes back to an eye of the needle.. straight gate.

if only my BeOS app fonts patch were to be accepted then that would not be a problem
<Skipp_OSX>
BeOS apps tend to have manual widths that are meant to hold the text size on BeOS not the larger text sizes we use on Haiku
<LegendaryAmerican>
I see. then it just takes the api recoginizing that it was coded in original.
<LegendaryAmerican>
{ should not have to port from beos to haiku }
<LegendaryAmerican>
dude, thats on TODO. thats cool
<Skipp_OSX>
The TODO is to exclude BeOS apps that don't need their fonts updated
<LegendaryAmerican>
thats the kind of stuff that gets done from the way beta to RC
<LegendaryAmerican>
that wont be very long now.
<Skipp_OSX>
I've tried to get BeOS apps to run a bit better on Haiku

<Skipp_OSX>
yeah it'd be nice if that patch set was included so that BeOS apps would work a bit better not have their text truncated because of larger fonts.
<LegendaryAmerican>
I hope to have 3dlogo make for a desktop replicant.. and can change color on its background. animated desktop replicant with the organization and OS name rolling will be very nice as at the big gathering over that people will be showing off.
<Skipp_OSX>
it would mean that BeOS apps would be stuck in the past font-wise... but they already are so that's no big loss

I am curious why openscenegraph is marked as broken.
<beaglejoe>
more likely it is incomplete.
<extrowerk_>
beaglejoe: i think the reason is pretty simple: it isn't capable to draw on the screen.
<extrowerk_>
this is the simple case of "if something compiles it doesn't means it works"
<extrowerk_>
somebody added the osg recipe to the ports, we kept it maintained, and much later we had to face the sad truth: it is useless without platform-specific patches.
<extrowerk_>
nobody wanted to do the patching and no program required it, so we just disabled it.

<Vidrep_64>
waddlesplash, re Web+. The patch you provided yesterday fixed the problem I had with Web+ not launching with HaikuWebKit
<Vidrep_64>
In regards to the patch revert that nephele was pointing to, that's something maybe to be further investigated
<Vidrep_64>

<Vidrep_64>
However, once the page fully loaded, I could not scroll any longer. Related? i don't know.
<extrowerk_>
cocobean: i am unable to decipher your question. I mentioned already countless time to please formulate your sentences much simpler. I am not a native english speaker, but i assume even for english speakers would it be hard to understand what *exactly* you want or need
<extrowerk_>
if you are interested if we want to keep backward compatibility with any of the listed OSs, the answer is: why should we care about them at all?
<extrowerk_>
the newest GCC version for those OS was GCC 4.1 or 4.2, or something 4.x. But even that was just a cross compiler, the native one is GCC2.95.3. Nobody cares about that, but if you want feel free to care.
<extrowerk_>
But i don't think you can compile OSG with GCC4 and almost surely not possible with GCC2.

So you are asking if the Haiku SDK have any backwards compatibility and if the resulting binary could work on BeOS/Zeta? If you use only kits and features which was available back then, the source should be portable, but even a binary built on Haiku gcc2 x86 can be tricky to get run on BeOS.
<extrowerk_3>
GCC8.x binaries won't run at all.

extrowerk_3 you missed nothing
<mrentropyvcs>
If it were me, I'd be taking a lot of pictures of the hotel room. Then I would share one each day, saying things like, "Today I went on a hike and ended up at this lovely English closet! We don't get closets like this at home."
<extrowerk_3>
How can i be sure about that? There was a chance to get released from the Q(arantine, but i wont type that word anymore) on the friday with test-to-release, but the lab wasn't able to process my sample in time. I wanted to walk around i nthe countryside, the weather was mostly ok and sunny (in comparison with the whole week rain and grayness), so i am terribly sad that i still conserved in this room.
<beaglejoe>
extrowerk_3: At least you can say you've been to England.
<extrowerk_3>
mrentropyvcs: i did a similar thing: i made a series of photos and wrote complementary text about "strange english things". Like faucets.

Excellent.
<extrowerk_3>
and about the spaceship-control-panel-like faucet-system on the shower. Thats really neat. It took my a considerable amount of time to understand how it works (however it is fully analog).
<mrentropyvcs>
That sounds pretty interesting.

(BrunoSpr) hi
<extrowerk_3>
Have to say, the english shower is much more self-explanatory that the one i have seen in Canada. That was strange. A ball was mounted on the wall in the shower, it had finger-sized grooves on its surface. I was just like : "OK, i have to rotate it." No, you should tilt it. No idea why.

<mrentropyvcs>
I firmly believe hotel/motel showers are designed to keep people wondering how they're supposed to work. It's probably some kind of alien IQ test.
<extrowerk_3>
But the wifi is the worst. It is from Sky. You connect to it, there is a capative portal (or how this things called), you register and login, and tada.wav, internet. Till there is no more as it blocks yourr internet after 30-45 minutes, but no OS understand this, and no OS shows you the log in again into the crapy captive portal website. It just not working anymore.. Or actually it is still working, but...
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Butler catsup
<extrowerk_3>
... but it seems most OS have a DNS cache or something, as long as the IP of the domain is still in the cache (eg. you visited it lately) then it still works, but no other webpage will load. At all.
<extrowerk_3>
Most webpage uses https, and the router cannot change those request, so the login page wont show up til lyou try to navigate to a http page, where the router kicks in and shows the login page.
<extrowerk_3>
So i can work on haikuports, can do git and things, but i cannot open the page of a software which i want to port, because reasons (45 min internet should be enough for everybody!). So i have to open a http page, wait til lthe router kicks in (not always doing it, it is a crp) and work further.
<extrowerk_3>
beaglejoe: but what do you actually want with OSG?
<extrowerk_3>
Do you want to implement the os specific things?
<Niklas[m]>
Do I get that right that you can still connect to any IP address but not resolve DNS?Then why not set another nameserver like 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare) to solve the problem?
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Or maybe use encrypted DNS? Or a VPN?
<B2IA>
(AGMS) Google's DNS is at 8.8.8.8
<beaglejoe>
extrowerk: speed_dreams (optionally) depends on it.
<extrowerk_3>
Niklas[m]: i tried that, but not really working. I just assume it is the DNS cache which results in this strange "almost-working" internet, but i am not sure and i have no skills to investigate further.

I tried with the ad-block dns, but nope.
<extrowerk_3>
idk why.
<Niklas[m]>
Hm,that's weird...
<extrowerk_3>
to make the internet more fun, the wifi wlan driver (intel 7260 or smth) doesn't really stable so it drops the connection in every 2-5 minutes, to make sure i won't enjoy anything
<extrowerk_3>
i wanted to write Haiku wlan driver, but whatever...
<extrowerk_3>
windows mostly works (company laptop), i can watch youtube videos hours long, but then if i try to open a page it just doesn't load anything
<Niklas[m]>
I have the same problem with one of my old laptops as well.I think Beta 3 improved it a bit but it's still awful to use.
Anarchos has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]

Never tried Winblows but works fine with Linux or BSD.
<extrowerk_3>
Also seemingly if WebPositive started after the internet cut off by the router (so in this almost-working condition) WebPositive freezes and have to delete the session file and open it again so that i can open a http site and sometimes i get the login page, but most of the time it is just a fight where i try to open the coapative portal url
<waddlesplash>
extrowerk_3: fixes to that wlan driver coming "soon"
<extrowerk_3>
I have seen you started to mess with the obsd sources.

Also for 2-2.5 days the heating was broken in the hotel, and it was pretty cold, most of the time i was stuck under the bedsheets to keep me warm. I am not allowed to leave the room, so i did and checked the radiators on the floor and simultan closed myself out of the room at 6AM, so i had to wait 2 hours long in the restaurant till the maintenance-man came in and opened my door (the key was inside in the lock, so we were unable to open with the backup

also RIP the author

(tested tascam frontier fireone controller. doesnt show up in midi or audio but I kinda knew it wouldnt)

yes

bparker_ bad things happen :(

perhaps your blank disc was already bad

did you try again?

like does it read at all? is there an error? if so what

it is nearly impossible to diagnose 'it dont work'

(firewire could be supported ex-project. they make lightning to firewire adapter so and some of big boys surely have huge racks full of stuff.. of which there was no getting around not using firewire to get what they got.)
<Anarchos>
bparker_ i try to use dd to burn my iso,
<cocobean>
beaglejoe: Moreso, I meant API backward-compatible if software is developed/ported to BeOS 5.1/DanO/Zeta/etc versus BeOS 5.0. SDK is usually compatible libs/headers - which can mean the same thing to some people.
<cocobean>
(used for software developm,ent/porting purposes)
<LegendaryAmerican>
so if you lose the firewire on the t61.. so what. Ive already updated but the ozonic is built like a plastic tank. same for the frontier. always beefier than usb stuff.

<pinaraf>
is there any way to list loaded kernel drivers, and unload/load drivers from the terminal? like lsmod/rmmod/modprobe under Linux or similar features on most OSs
<waddlesplash>
listimage, but it displays more than just the kernel
<waddlesplash>
there's some way to limit it via args I believe
<waddlesplash>
modules are automatically loaded/unloaded when placed into the proper directories
<pinaraf>
so if I want to patch and iterate on a kernel driver, I only have to swap the file in the directory? the kernel will unload and load it automatically?

<jessicah>
the /system path is read-only
<jessicah>
I find it's easier to just rebuild the haiku.hpkg and install it with pkgman
<jessicah>
does mean a reboot though, as I understand it
<pinaraf>
jessicah: yes, that's kind of what I wish I wouldn't have to do
<jessicah>
an alternative might be to blacklist the driver, and then copy the driver to one of the alternate paths... although I'm not sure where the kernel currently looks for drivers
<jessicah>
as far as load/unload goes, I don't know
<jessicah>
I probably could have tested that with my hda driver work.. heh; I just rebooted as it's plenty fast enough
<pinaraf>
I can't work on a VM for what I'm playing with (screen backlight), and it's an old laptop so reboots are not that fast
<pinaraf>
but I guess I'll do it that way
<waddlesplash>
just dropping drivers into the proper path works
<waddlesplash>

yeah, some of this is just not documented
<waddlesplash>
basically, for legacy drivers, you just put them in /system/add-ons/kernel/drivers/bin
jenna16bit has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<waddlesplash>
for non-legacy drivers it varies, they usually have a "proper" location they need to be placed into based on what subsystem they are for
<pinaraf>
but it's read-only, right?

(the "new" driver system really needs an overhaul)
<waddlesplash>
