<erysdren> but why only on EFI?
<augiedoggie> dunno, not my area of expertise
<augiedoggie> it initializes the hardware differently or haiku isn't scanning acpi tables properly?
<erysdren> maybe so
<augiedoggie> but it's a known problem at least :P
<augiedoggie> there were several duplicates of that ticket i think
<erysdren> yeah

<waddlesplash> coolcoder613[m]: erysdren: our idualwifi/iwm is from OpenBSD not FreeBSD so it does support 11n and 11ac
<erysdren> welp
<erysdren> still not working under EFI :P
<waddlesplash> yes that does happen sometimes, it's odd
<waddlesplash> there is a ticket about this somewhere
<zdykstra> augiedoggie linked it earlier, I think
<erysdren> im guessing its missing a piece of firmware
<erysdren> as reported at the end of that
<erysdren> at any rate im glad its not just me

<zdykstra> does anybody know of a screenshot tool for Haiku that lets you select a section of the screen? On linux, I use a screenshot tool that lets me click once to set the upper left corner, and then drag the mouse to set the lower right corner.

erysdren has joined #haiku
<coolcoder613_32> Hello erysden
<erysdren> hello
<erysdren> how's it going
<coolcoder613_32> It's my birthday today
<erysdren> happy birthday
<coolcoder613_32> Did your network card work?
<erysdren> sorta
<erysdren> some weird stuff happened
<erysdren> my PC has had some persistent soundcard issues, and power issues lately
<coolcoder613_32> What stuff?
<coolcoder613_32> What kind of power issues?
<erysdren> sound card issues: neither linux, nor windows, nor haiku could see my Intel HDA soundcard after some unknown event some months ago
<coolcoder613_32> Did you try taking it out and putting it back in?
<erysdren> power issues: in Linux and Haiku, shutting down or reboot would just hang at the very last step
<erysdren> and i had to power off the machine manually by holding down the power button
<erysdren> i did a bunch of stuff, but nothing fixed either issue
<coolcoder613_32> That happens sometimes in Haiku, but i've never seen it happen in Linux
<erysdren> anyways, i put this new network card in. didn't take out the old one. and somehow all my problems are now fixed
<erysdren> power issues are gone, sound card works again
<coolcoder613_32> *All* of them?
<erysdren> im guessing i reseated the sound card by accident or something
<coolcoder613_32> And power?
<erysdren> yep, now it shuts down normally
<coolcoder613_32> That's great!
<erysdren> i'm guessing the soundcard being off-seat was causing the system to hang while it tried to power it down
<erysdren> or something
<erysdren> now it's all fine
<coolcoder613_32> You can connect to Wifi?
<erysdren> no lol. haiku can see the new card, and it even gets a MAC address
<erysdren> but it can't find any networks
<erysdren> the syslog didn't reveal any firmware errors
<erysdren> so i'm not sure
<coolcoder613_32> What kind of card is it?
<erysdren> uhhh
<erysdren> i forgot. i'm gonna boot back into haiku and get the driver it uses
<erysdren> and post syslog
<coolcoder613_32> cya
<erysdren> also, i tried blacklisting the driver for the non-working card
<erysdren> didn't fix anything, but it did remove the broken card from the list
<erysdren> i guess
<erysdren> for reference, the idualwifi7260 has a firmware load error, and has a MAC address of all zeros
<erysdren> the new card (i forget the driver) has no errors that i can see, and gets assigned a proper MAC address
<erysdren> but it still can't see any local networks
<erysdren> i tested the card in linux, and it can see local networks just fine
<coolcoder613_32> Do you have a 2.5Ghz network?
<erysdren> yeah
<erysdren> er
<coolcoder613_32> sometimes haiku cant connect to 5G
<erysdren> the old card doesn't see 5G networks
<erysdren> i mean, the one i just put in
<erysdren> its from 2014
<erysdren> the idualwifi7260 connects over 5G, while the other one connects over 2.5 i think
<erysdren> on linux, the other card sees the nearby 2.5 networks properly
<erysdren> hang on, ill get the diagnosing stuff. brb
