<erysdren> whoever suggested the active PS/2 -> USB adapter, thank you
<erysdren> it arrived earlier today from amazon and works like a charm with the Model M
<coolcoder613> Mechanical keyboards are just so much better :)
* phschafft takes a big step back.
* coolcoder613_32 takes another step towards him
<phschafft> whatever.
<erysdren> lol
* coolcoder613_32 is trying to compile cool-retro-term
<coolcoder613_32> And... lib/kpty.cpp:102:11: fatal error: utmp.h: No such file or directory
<mmu_man> hmm I think I have a patch for it
<coolcoder613> But it wont use the system one
<coolcoder613> in qmlterminalwidget/lib/
<mmu_man> it's actually qmltermwidget that needs patching
<mmu_man> yeah it wants to use its own
<mmu_man> not sure it's the best way but it made it to compile IIRC
<coolcoder613_32> compiling....
<coolcoder613_32> Compiled
<coolcoder613_32> Working!
trn has joined #haiku
<coolcoder613_32> Very slow, and typed text isnt being echo'd, but it is usually GPU-accelerated
<trn> PulkoMandy: It would be nice to have preadv and pwritev... see https://man.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=preadv&sektion=2&n=1 ... would it be appropriate to make an issue to request it?
<trn> Linux, NetBSD, OpenBSD, FreeBSD, DragonFly, illumos, and Hurd all support it, and libuv was moving to require it, but put it off for now.
<coolcoder613_32> turned down the framerate, now it runs faster
<trn> Which would have meant breaking cmake (and other libuv stuff) on Haiku, Solaris, HP-UX.
<augiedoggie> i see a ticket that implies haiku already supports preadv/pwritev
<trn> augiedoggie: Hrrm. I don't see it in my unistd.h
<augiedoggie> the patch says bsd/sys/uio.h
<coolcoder613_32> any idea why typed text is not being echo'd?
<trn> augiedoggie: Ah, very good, false alarm then thanks. :)
<trn> I do see it there.
<trn> I normally work on AIX and BSDs and it's seemingly available via just unistd.h
<coolcoder613_32> text is echo'd in nano,
<trn> I guess that's the problem with some of these non-standard functions, there's not a standard place to put them.
<coolcoder613_32> and in xonsh
<trn> I see BSD does have them in that file too though, at least newer FreeBSD. all good.
<waddlesplash> trn: we have preadv and pwritev.
<waddlesplash> ah I see augiedoggie already replied

<phschafft> terminals have an 'alternate screen'.
<phschafft> that one is a seperate buffer with no scrollback.
<phschafft> it is used e.g. so your editor can provide you all it needs (and for an editor scrollback doesn't make sense anyway) and then switch back returning you to what was on the terminal before.
<phschafft> however in some rare cases that switching doesn't work correctly.
<phschafft> (e.g. if you kill a program before it can return you)
<phschafft> 'reset' will bring you back into the normal mode (anlongside with all other kinds of resets of your terminal).
<phschafft> also some terms offer an option to switch manually (e.g. xterm via the middle button menu).

<zard> hello erysdren :)
<zard> coolcoder613: Have you ever looked into Bethon? I personally haven't, though I've wanted to.
<coolcoder613> I think I looked at it.
<zard> Do you know if they directly wrote bindings for the Haiku API or tried wrapping them in a more "Pythony" way of doing things?
<coolcoder613> It is Python2-based, and they used the raw Python C API
<zard> I meant, do the bindings look exactly like their C++ counterpart, or have they tried to use Python's features and way of doing things when writing it?
<coolcoder613> I think it looks like C++
<coolcoder613> Hmm.. they have an interesting approach
<coolcoder613> They define the interface with .dx files
* zard decides to download it and take a look
x512[m] has joined #haiku
<zard> Yes, looks like they expose the C++ API exactly as it is with little to no modification
<coolcoder613> Have a look at the `api` folder, and apitest.py in older versions of Haiku-PyAPI, that was a wrapper over the BeAPI

<dfjongen> Nobody awake, too bad :-(
<coolcoder613_32> Hello
<coolcoder613_32> Hello erysdren, dfjongen
<dfjongen> Hi coolcoder, thanks for responding
<erysdren> hi dfjongen
<erysdren> you're using R1B4 i assume
<erysdren> ?
<HaikuUser> Hi erysdren, yes I am
HaikuUser has left #haiku [#haiku]
<erysdren> R1B4 is great
<erysdren> i'm really glad it's progressing so well
<dfjongen> Sorry I was logged on as two users, no back on one :-(
<erysdren> right now i'm building a 2002 era PC
<erysdren> i have an ATI graphics card, a Creative Labs sound card, 4GB of RAM and an AMD Athlon processor
<erysdren> all of these parts are pulled from junk bins in my dad's garage
<dfjongen> I am on a Dell Latitude D830, so pretty old as well but not as old as yours

<coolcoder613_32> 4GB of RAM? that doesnt sound very 2002
<erysdren> 4GB is the maximum that a 32-bit system can use
<erysdren> i thought i'd max it out, just to have a real powerhouse
<erysdren> this PC had 1.25 GB before
<coolcoder613_32> Not true actually
<erysdren> oh?
<coolcoder613_32> its the max for 32-bit windows
<erysdren> ah
<erysdren> haiku can access more, probably?
<dfjongen> 2 GB
<dfjongen> on this laptop
<dfjongen> Nice meeting you, goto go, 0047 LT here, See you
<coolcoder613_32> its called PAE
<erysdren> cya
<erysdren> nice meeting you as well

<coolcoder613_32> I actually have a floppy drive on my desktop,
<erysdren> that's awesome
<erysdren> i only have a USB floppy drive
<coolcoder613_32> But the motherboard had been upgraded before I got it, and it didnt have a port for the drive cable, so it is useless
<erysdren> it kinda sucks
<coolcoder613_32> But its still there, and could even be working.
<erysdren> nice
<coolcoder613_32> It still does things when i plug the power into it.
* coolcoder613_32 pops off the side panel to check
<coolcoder613_32> ...or maybe not
<erysdren> its dead now?
<coolcoder613_32> I looked inside and i saw the power was already plugged in, is that light supposed to be on?
<coolcoder613_32> Where does the power come from anyway?
<coolcoder613_32> Is it the one with the 4 pins?
<coolcoder613_32> Oh, the IDE-like connector is missing a pin, this is not going to work :(
<erysdren> ahhh
<erysdren> sad :<
<coolcoder613_32> Well, i know where i can get another floppy drive
