glad to know this IRC client is here :)
<Begasus>
it works roracle! :)
<roracle>
woot!
<Begasus>
resolving build dependencies failed: requires "lib:libboost_date_time" of package "lgogdownloader-3.11" could not be resolved (why doesn't this work?)
<Begasus>
ah! bumps head :D
<roracle>
no clue, hope you get help on that. i'm testing this as a user only lol
<Begasus>
stupid mistake ;)
<roracle>
i'm seeing how it goes for our church laptop, it's only two cores and 4gb ram, so it's not much to work with but it's snappy snappy snappy
<Begasus>
Ah! saw your picture on the FB page :)
<roracle>
yep! :)
<Begasus>
Hope you get it up and running +1
<roracle>
if this doesn't end up working out, i'll have to likely go with something like Q4OS with Trinity, or something else made for older hardware

<Begasus>
try to keep it down to a minimum, saves resources for the rest :)
<Begasus>
k, time for the doggies, biab
<roracle>
of course, with the etreme lack of security on Haiku, i might as well install WinXP :P (that's a joke, windows isn't coming near this thing lol)
<Begasus>
+1
<coolcoder613>
I have a PC with Haiku+Zorin OS+WinXP+FreeDOS :)
<roracle>
ooo freedos would be nice, would need sound to work and a desktop tho lol

And i have ported RustPython to FreeDOS!
<roracle>
oh nice :)
<roracle>
so hey, you know how the applications show up in the deskbar?
<coolcoder613>
Yeah...
<roracle>
is there a way to just click an app in the bar to focus it, or do i have to always select the window to raise?
<coolcoder613>
Not sure, ask Begasus
<roracle>
i mean i can always "meta" the windows together to make it easy i guess
<roracle>
almost 2am here, i go to bed now, good night everyone! glad to be somewhat part of this crazy adventure!
<coolcoder613>
roracle: about haiku security, 1. there are no viruses for Haiku 2. clamAV has been ported
<roracle>
:)
<coolcoder613>
Security by low market share ;)
<roracle>
indeed. before i go to bed, i wanted to mention how much this reminds me of Mac OS 9

Dell
<roracle>
not HP
<roracle>
i'm so used to having HP's come across my path
<coolcoder613>
I've run Haiku on a HP Compaq 6830s
<roracle>
i had to use legacy mode to get this working, not sure why but mouse/keyboard didn't work at all in EFI mode
<coolcoder613>
I'm now on a Thinkpad T430
<roracle>
sweet, never had one of those. i know they're popular with linux users
<coolcoder613>
I bought it refurbished, specifically for Haiku
<erysdren>
yeah... UEFI mode has a tendency to break certain drivers. for me it breaks the network driver on my desktop
<roracle>
only problem is this laptop sometimes freaks out when booting, goes into repair mode, i have to hit esc to stop it
iar[m] has joined #haiku
<erysdren>
ah hmm
<erysdren>
oh, speaking of UEFI
fuggy[m] has joined #haiku
<erysdren>
despite Haiku not supporting it super well, i did think it was a little annoying that it can't automatically install the EFI bootloader in the OS installer app
<erysdren>
you have to do it manually
<coolcoder613>
Windows repair?
<roracle>
i had to manually install the bootloader in legacy mode
<erysdren>
you had to manually install the BIOS bootloader?
<roracle>
no idea why, just wouldn't boot and there's so little info out there i had to dig and figure out the disk name in the system, but i got it
dfergfla[m] has joined #haiku
<erysdren>
very odd
<roracle>
it would boot from the USB drive, but after install it wouldn't boot, so i booted to the usb, ran the bootloader install command with the drive i wanted it on, and it worked from then on
<roracle>
there was no /system/boot or where ever it's at
<roracle>
i'm so used ot the Linux file system
<coolcoder613>
There is no /system/boot but there is /boot/system, /system is symlinked to /boot/system
<roracle>
oh, maybe it was /boot/system/boot? idk, i'm a noob at this. haven't used it since BeOS 5 back in the day lol
<coolcoder613>
Oh wait, there *is* /system/boot (which is really /boot/system/boot)
<coolcoder613>
but haiku_loader.bios_ia32 and kernel_x86_64 are in /(boot/)system
<roracle>
o okay. yeah it's time to go to bed for real now. i'll probably be back later, i'll have lots of questions in the coming weeks most likely. i'm still not sure if People is being utilized properly :P

My terminal scrollbar is greyed out, and scrolling goes through my shell history, how can i fix this?
amayas[m] has joined #haiku
<humdinger>
never seen that before. it's only greed out if there's nothing to scroll, e.g. a new terminal session.
<coolcoder613>
Has happened once or twice before, its gone now
<coolcoder613>
Could be something sent some kind of control code that did that.
meisme[m] has joined #haiku

<phschafft>
terminals have an 'alternate screen'.
<phschafft>
that one is a seperate buffer with no scrollback.
<phschafft>
it is used e.g. so your editor can provide you all it needs (and for an editor scrollback doesn't make sense anyway) and then switch back returning you to what was on the terminal before.
<phschafft>
however in some rare cases that switching doesn't work correctly.
<phschafft>
(e.g. if you kill a program before it can return you)
<phschafft>
'reset' will bring you back into the normal mode (anlongside with all other kinds of resets of your terminal).
<phschafft>
also some terms offer an option to switch manually (e.g. xterm via the middle button menu).

hello erysdren :)
<zard>
coolcoder613: Have you ever looked into Bethon? I personally haven't, though I've wanted to.
<coolcoder613>
I think I looked at it.
<zard>
Do you know if they directly wrote bindings for the Haiku API or tried wrapping them in a more "Pythony" way of doing things?
<coolcoder613>
It is Python2-based, and they used the raw Python C API
<zard>
I meant, do the bindings look exactly like their C++ counterpart, or have they tried to use Python's features and way of doing things when writing it?
<coolcoder613>
I think it looks like C++
<coolcoder613>
Hmm.. they have an interesting approach
<coolcoder613>
They define the interface with .dx files
* zard
decides to download it and take a look
x512[m] has joined #haiku
<zard>
Yes, looks like they expose the C++ API exactly as it is with little to no modification
<coolcoder613>
Have a look at the `api` folder, and apitest.py in older versions of Haiku-PyAPI, that was a wrapper over the BeAPI
