I would expect the new harfbuzz to replace the older one, and not to suggest desinstallation of icu70 (>66.1). Oh well...
<OscarL>
sometimes changes in provides seems to generate some weird edge cases.

seems libass_devel-0.17.1-1 was preventing the auto-update of harfbuzz in my case? (I did `pkgman uninstall harfbuzz_devel`, allowed to uninstall libass_devel, and then `pkgman full` finally updated harfbuzz-7.3.0-1 to harfbuzz-8.2.1-1)
<augiedoggie>
seems like the icu version should be bumped
<augiedoggie>
it only specifies >= 66.1 in the recipe

<erysdren>
it's slow as hell but haiku complimented it well, last time i tried
<erysdren>
web browsing was kinda impossible though
<coolcoder613>
:(
<coolcoder613>
Try using lynx
<erysdren>
that's textmode right?
<coolcoder613>
yup
<erysdren>
cool, i'll install it
<erysdren>
the wifi card on the thinkpad also sucks, i guess
<erysdren>

Hello all :)
<erysdren>
hello
<zard>
coolcoder613: did you see the suggestion to use function decorators for receiving messages on the forum?
* coolcoder613
goes to look at that
<coolcoder613>
Oh yeah, I looked at that, but it is global variables, not class members
<coolcoder613>
wouldnt work 'cause of name collisions
<coolcoder613>
and overwriting
<zard>
In other words, it wouldn't work because it would only modify the global variable events and not self.events?
<coolcoder613>
zard: Btw, what do you run Haiku on?
<coolcoder613>
Zard: yes
<zard>
A VM. What about you?
<coolcoder613>
I run bare metal on 2-3 computers(A 32-bit desktop with 3GB of RAM, A 64-bit Thinkpad Laptop with *GB of RAM(what i am using now), and a 64-bit HP laptop with 4GB of RAM(in storage under the desk))
<coolcoder613>
typo, * is 8 (shift :) )
<zard>
:)
* zard
is starting to understand why function decorators don't work, tries to think of workarounds nonetheless :)

[haikuports/haikuports] davidkaroly 0ead2e6 - llvm16: link binaries against crti.o (#9676)
<zard>
Looks like both recpies have eggs then ;)
<coolcoder613>
I want to keep cross-platform (for those who use windows), so the recipe management will be cli, and for text editing, it will run nano, like git commit
<coolcoder613>
No need to reinvent the wheel(or text editor)

goodbye
<phschafft>
also I'm not very much the recipe type, more the doing it a few times and then get a feeling for it.

so you hardly see quantities listed over here.

is x512 still working on the Haiku vulkan acceleration for southern islands AMD GPUs? The last news/posts I've seen from them in the forum is from July 2022...

(wrt. to acceleration work that is)
<fancy2209[m]>
Is Hardware acceleration for Haiku being worked on in general?
<zard>
AFAIK, there is nobody working on it other than x512

has a nice little system with an i5 Haswell w/HD 4xxx GPU + a HD 7970 dGPU that he wants to use for Haiku

would be awesome-sauce if that could be used to accelerate rending but use the iGPU for showing stuff on screen.

ermo: Currently switched efforts to Nvidia Turing+.
<andreasdr[m]>
x512: Wow. Nice.
<x512[m]>
Nvidia released open source kernel driver that is much easier to port to Haiku then Linux DRM drivers.
<andreasdr[m]>
Nice. Yes. You told before. Sorry for joining the discussion, but its as usual very interesting.
<andreasdr[m]>
The least supported card would be a nvidia 2060 right?

owns exactly zero NVidia cards
<cocobean>
. GeForce RTX 2080 Ti
<ermo[m]>
Well, that's not true. I was gifted a GTS 450 DirectCU Silent passively cooled card. But I'm pretty sure that doesn't count in this regard...
<ermo[m]>
(Fermi uarch)
<andreasdr[m]>
Ok. So its better to get a 3060?
<ermo[m]>
andreasdr: sorry, I was referring to my own comment about owning zero NVidia cards. 2060 would probably be fine for you as it is a Turing gen card.
<andreasdr[m]>
Nice.
<andreasdr[m]>
Thank you!!!

ermo: For Radeon I get some whole system freezes for unknown reasons.
<andreasdr[m]>
They are affordable. So this would work for me.
<ermo[m]>
sorry to hear re. Radeon.
<andreasdr[m]>
x512: damn.
<ermo[m]>
I was really looking forward to giving my HD 7970s a second lease of life with Haiku vulkan accel.
<x512[m]>
It need tracing Linux driver to find what is wrong and how Linux does it right.
<x512[m]>
There are no public documentation for low-level Radeon GPU initialization, work scheduling etc..
<x512[m]>
Available documentation is for too old GPUs or for high-level features such as 3D engine machine code.
