installed haiku in gnome boxes, the display is tiny so using virt-viewer to make it bigger, but after a couple minutes it disconnects and all virt-viewer has to say is "Guest haikunihhtly display has disconnected, shutting down"

dovsienko: b5 has KDEBUG turned down so a lot less asserts and other checks turned off
<waddlesplash>
but a triple fault is probably something else
<waddlesplash>
try disabling SMP and see if it goes away

waddlesplash: I've run stress-ng on the VGA console and watched it until it consumed all RAM and even the mouse pointer did not move. it did not reboot though.
<waddlesplash>
dovsienko: the problems with reboots seem to happen with multi-core usage and lots of context switching
<dovsienko>
it is running a tcpdump build matrix to eliminate SSH, if this still reboots, I will try making it single-core in BIOS
<waddlesplash>
so, compile jobs
<waddlesplash>
you can just disable SMP in Haiku bootloader options
<waddlesplash>
AMD Bulldozer machines are most affected but some other AMD models are also
<waddlesplash>
I don't think any Ryzens are tho
<dovsienko>
yes, stress-ng --cpu 4 overnight did not cause it to reboot, so this is not a thermal overheating problem
<dovsienko>
(I've replaced the thermal paste already, to no effect)
linuxmaster has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<dovsienko>
this is an ancient AMD Turion, Haiku identifies it as "Phenom II"
<dovsienko>
it can be made a nightly snapshot or reinstalled from scratch if it helps. this is an experimental rig
<dovsienko>
which also reminds me: why ACPI thermal sensors are not enabled by default?

so it's not a reboot really just virt-viewer or whatever disconnecting from the display, it will probably go away if I used something other than gnome boxes
<dovsienko>
yep, just reset once more. tcpdump build matrix seems to be a reliable way to reproduce. the box is running single-core now, just like in the old days. let's see if that works around the problem...

<dovsienko>
waddlesplash: with one CPU core enabled in BIOS the build matrix managed to pass, I am going to repeat this a few times to confirm the correlation. is there anything useful I could do about this problem, such as flipping the host to nightly builds and gathering debug?
<waddlesplash>
unless you get something more interesting in the log, probably not
<waddlesplash>
there is a long running ticket about these triple faults
<waddlesplash>
we haven't really managed to isolate anything more than "it happens under SMP"
<waddlesplash>
some recent changes made it happen less often for some people but not for others... it's just random
<dovsienko>
waddlesplash: this box has 4GB RAM, if it matters

Just grabbed the two torrent files for Haiku, to help with distribution. And the _64 one doesn't seem to work for me. It tells me I have no local data when I set the torrent location. The gcc torrent file works fine. Is this an issue other people can replicate?
<qwebirc52486>
I'm using Transmission on Ubuntu. But it's strange I'm only having issues with one of the torrent files. I've tried re-downloading it and re-adding it a few times.

correct, there are a bunch out there and nothing clear. Lenovo's tend to work pretty well, T450 something like that.

but sometimes they don't work, the wifi doesn't work or the sound so YMMV sorry I don't have a good answer to give.
