<PulkoMandy>
Matrix' plan to artificially increase their user count is working perfectly!
<danlopw[m]1>
<Begasus> "hi danlopw, account for?" <- for matrix, it's currently lost because my sibling accidentally deleted it
<danlopw[m]1>
so I made one
<danlopw[m]1>
* so I made a new one

<PulkoMandy>
x512[m]: Matrix count "users" as anyone who ever joined a room, so they say they have a lot of users and big channels, but it's a lot of dead/unused accounts. Giving incorrect impression when trying to compare with other messaging systems where people don't appear joined forever to channels
<x512[m]>
So what? Matrix is bad because user can stay logged in?
<x512[m]>
Some channels like GTK automatically remove inactive users.
<x512[m]>
I would say that IRC is bad because user MUST stay logged in to not have conversation lost.
<Begasus[m]>
1+ for matrix on having the history around, I like it, but I could understand this isn't expected/wanted behaviour for some

<Begasus[m]> "1+ for matrix on having the..." <- i find a balance to be optimal: keep messages, but not too far back (maybe a week or so) since it's exceptionally rare that you look that far back
<Hanicef[m]>
i know that some matrix homeservers have message retention policies to save storage space
<Begasus>
Hanicef[m], right, history for me is only relevant for the last day(s) (not running a server here)
<Hanicef[m]>
yeah, same
<Hanicef[m]>
also, sorry if i've been so inactive in haiku development, i've been busy with other stuff, so i've had to put it aside for the time being
<Begasus>
np, we all do our own thing in our own time :)
<Begasus>
still in the process building the rc for KDE's frameworks, upstream has a fix for Tokodon which I can't check until I'm finished with those
