DHowett: those PCI IDs are only needed for devices that have both XHCI and EHCI controllers and require portswitching logic
<waddlesplash>
yours almost certainly doesn't
<waddlesplash>
DHowett: and no, this isn't an XHCI or NVME issue. if no icons are lit up at all, the bootloader has failed to hand off into the kernel
<waddlesplash>
the first icon will be lit before any drivers are initialized
<waddlesplash>
XHCI is surprisingly forwards compatible so far. the driver we have supports 0.9 through 1.2 revisions and it seems to do OK
<DHowett>
ah, i was thinking that "an inability to find the kernel on permanent storage" would result in no first icon :)
<waddlesplash>
no, that problem will get you a bootloader error message
<waddlesplash>
failure to mount the boot volume gets you one ofthe "panic no boot partitions" message
<waddlesplash>
which occurs during the "hard disk" icon

<waddlesplash>
"no lit icons" is a bootloader/kernel handoff problem, indicating the bootloader thinks it is about to start the kernel, but something instead going wrong
<waddlesplash>
have you tried: 4GB memory limit, no SMP, etc. options in the safe mode menu?

Is there any way to use a PPPoE internet connection with Haiku?While I'm still waiting for the VDSL SFP module for my new router,I noticed that my laptop with Haiku seems to support such connections natively hardware-wise but I don't know where to configure the connection or if Haiku even has drivers for it.
<PulkoMandy>
no, the PPP stack was never completed due to lack of interest by developers
<Niklas[m]>
Hm,that's not good...Maybe I can find some Linux live USB stick...
<waddlesplash>
PulkoMandy: no, it was
<waddlesplash>
however it is untested, not included in the image, and may or may not actually work
<waddlesplash>
so, if you know a thing or two about PPPoE, you might test it out and see what happens?
<waddlesplash>
"some assembly required"
<PulkoMandy>
well that counts as "never completed" to me

U.S. Marine network security breach: In February 2021, Bloomberg Business reported that U.S. investigators found in 2008 that military units in Iraq were using Lenovo laptops in which the hardware had been altered. According to a testimony from the case in 2010, "A large amount of Lenovo laptops were sold to the U.S. military that had a chip encrypted on the motherboard that would record all the data that was being inputted into that laptop
