Does anyone know why?

<waddlesplash>
there's a patch at haikuports that fixes this
<jonathan[m]12345>
Thanks waddlesplash . I am kinda new to haiku - could you link it to me?
<waddlesplash>
you might be able to just install the package?

(AGMS) andreasdr, Anarchos for the white screen on Radeon, I have that one one output and a good screen on the other output. Since Haiku only supports one monitor, try the different output sockets on your Radaeon video card.
<andreasdr>
B2IA: Oh nice idea
AGMS has joined #haiku
<andreasdr>
Will do in 15 mins
<andreasdr>
Do you use HDMI?
<andreasdr>
My Graphics Board has several outputs Id guess.
<AGMS>
Yes, got white on the DVI output, Haiku on the HDMI one.
<andreasdr>
Ok
<andreasdr>
Nice.
<andreasdr>
Thank you.
<andreasdr>
Ill report in 20 mins
<AGMS>
And there's one other output, display port or something.
<andreasdr>
Ok
<andreasdr>
What graphics board do you have?
<AGMS>
Looks for the box...
<AGMS>
A Gigabyte Radeon R9 270, with 2GB of DDR5 memory. Had it long enough that one of the fans died, but I found an exact replacement on Alibaba.
<andreasdr>
Ok. :)
<andreasdr>
Let me restart my computer.

RX580: DP1 black, DP2 white, HDMI1 unsupported signal(message from monitor), HDMI2 unsupported signal(message from monitor)
<andreasdr>
Sorry, RX480
<AGMS>
What's the Haiku screen resolution set to? If you can even set it :-)
<AGMS>
That may be giving your HDMI an unsupported signal. Set it to 1920x1080 at 60hz if you can.
<andreasdr>
I never could set a resolution but I used before UEFI with fail safe and 1920x960.
<andreasdr>
How to set it?
<andreasdr>
I was told Bootloader resolution is discarded if accelerant is started.
<AGMS>
Hmmm. I ran it in VirtualBox first, then switched to real hardware, and some of the screen resolution settings stuck. Maybe delete the settings file for the resolution. Or get one from someone else with 1080p set.
<andreasdr>
Where is the settings file?
<andreasdr>
1920x1080
<andreasdr>
Ya please send a file and tell me where to put :D
<AGMS>
Something like /boot/home/config/settings/something...
<andreasdr>
Let me start the Haiku
<andreasdr>
again
<AGMS>
Boots up Haiku to look for the settings...

AGMS: Are both monitors work during boot splash?
andreasdr has joined #haiku
<AGMS>
andreasdr, are both monitors working during the boot-up screens?
<andreasdr>
I have only one attached. I tried all output with this one monitor.
<andreasdr>
Is it ./settings/Screen_data ?
<andreasdr>
I see no other file that could be related
<AGMS>
Yes, though at 8 bytes it seems kind of small. But it changes when I change the screen size.
<andreasdr>
It has 8 Bytes
<andreasdr>
What to do now?
<AGMS>
See what's in the file, do a "hd /boot/home/config/settings/Screen_data"
<andreasdr>
Oh just send ma this file with 1920x1080
<PulkoMandy>
yeah who called him nephele and not TurboPascal, what a missed opportunity :>
<Anarchos>
nephele i would let you know that since yesteray i manage to make the bfightness control working on radeon_hd
<nephele>
I saw that message, if you want you can take over the review on gerrit :)
<nephele>
PulkoMandy: I do get "your parents must be programmers" a lot though...
<nephele>
Anarchos: If you don't want to take it over you can tell me what you did and i'll finish it ~soonish~ if i have some time
<PulkoMandy>
well one of my programmer friends named her daughter Ada, so, maybe there is some truth to that
<AGMS>
andreasdr, then try booting and when running hit alt-F1 for 1024x768, alt-F2 for 1280x1024, alt-F3 for 1920x1080 resolution workspaces.
<Anarchos>
nephele i will update the 2786 if you want
<nephele>
Sure
<Anarchos>
nephele i must practice my gerrit process too :)
<nephele>
I know how to send patches to gerrit, first you send the patch to someone competent and then they upload it ;)
<Anarchos>
nephele but hey, my wife stopped complaining that my screen is too shiny when i am programming on haiku in the bed :)
<nephele>
I am happy that my patch gave you a starting point for that :D
<AGMS>
andreasdr, or maybe the workspaces settings file would have the resolution for each workspace screen. It's certainly large enough to store that.
<Anarchos>
nephele yes it was very good to have it, you only missed a few things
<AGMS>
andreasdr, workspaces file is in /boot/home/config/settings/system/app_server/
<andreasdr>
Nice.
<andreasdr>
Ill try this
<AGMS>
I've uploaded to my FTP server too.
<andreasdr>
ALT-F3
<andreasdr>
Oh or send me the file
<nephele>
Anarchos: you mean like, correct syntax? ;)
jmairboeck has joined #haiku
<andreasdr>
Ill try ALT-F3 now
<andreasdr>
Give me like 10 mins
<Anarchos>
nephele yes, but you missed also code to take into account the new value
<andreasdr>
Alt F3 switches Workspaces
<Anarchos>
nephele i discovered that on linux source code, sniffing how they use the same atombios constants as you
<AGMS>
OK, sending you the files, andreasdr via IRC.
<andreasdr>
I am using Vision. It says "Connecting to sender"
<andreasdr>
But nothing happens
<nephele>
what do you mean by taking it into account? I thought i had written one function to set and one to get it
<nephele>
Well, I'll see when you update the review :)
<AGMS>
Just shows the files here and says it is waiting.
<andreasdr>
Yes
<andreasdr>
Can you privately give me a FTP link?
<nephele>
the cherry on top is ofcourse if you can figure out how to detect the R600 and up thing aswell so it works on older computers too
<nephele>
yeah but... you already have haiku checked out, no?
<nephele>
no need to clone it again

Or find an older Radeon, should be cheap.
<andreasdr>
When I need to run Haiku to occasionally check things I use fall back driver. For me a OS usually gets useful when it has 3d hw acceleration as I am a engine and game developer. This is what I do 50-70% of the weeek. But I cross my fingers as x512[m] got this ball rolling.
<andreasdr>
:)
<Anarchos>
andreasdr i have a patch for radeon_hd to send
<andreasdr>
Oh. But how can I test?
<andreasdr>
I have never build Haiku and then used the build on real hardware.
<andreasdr>
I would need a hint.
<andreasdr>
But I am willing to test.
<x512[m]>
Anarchos: Can you send it?
<Anarchos>
x512[m] i am into it right now : preparing patch for review
<Anarchos>
it is just a little patch to use brightness control
<Anarchos>
believe it or not, but i am currently typing on a 50% bright screeen :)
<nephele>
andreasdr: Clearly, just not needing 3d acceleration by making a 2d game is the best solution ;)
<nephele>
half-jokingly, i do have a 2d game that runs on haiku with love2d
<andreasdr>
Naaaaaaaaaa. I am into 3d games. But nice, If Haiku got 3d we can port OpenFL/Haxe and all this. It is mostly 2D ui/game whatever development but uses 3d hw too.
<andreasdr>
I earn my money with Haxe/OpenFL projects currently.
<andreasdr>
Its 2d development.
<andreasdr>
This will all be fun here :DDD
<andreasdr>
openfl.org haxe.org
<nephele>
well, i like löve because it's lua. you could port lövr though ;)
<andreasdr>
O never heard that.
<andreasdr>
LOL. If OpenFL and Haxe is ported I could use Haiku as full driver :D
<andreasdr>
Oh I would need a decent browser (Slack, Discord) too.
<andreasdr>
:D
<andreasdr>
And a Email program :D
<andreasdr>
And a IDE. So I am quiet now :x
<andreasdr>
nephele: Nice.
<andreasdr>
Which game?
<nephele>
Well, there are atleast two people working on the "decent browser"
DKnoto has joined #haiku

<andreasdr>
Here and on GH.
<nephele>
but, i don't use discord, so if that starts working better, that is an accident!
<AlienSoldier>
webkit 2 being worked parallely in 64 and 32 bit?
<AlienSoldier>
i mean, any one will be ready before the other?
<nephele>
Well, PulkoMandy is on 32bit so that will probably be "ready" before 64bit, but the first release that would use webkit2 would be fixed to run on 64bit by me aswell if needed, so it should run on both
<PulkoMandy>
all the GSoC work was done on 64bit IIRC
<nephele>
don't expect any user facing changes from webkit2 directly though... probably more regressions at first ;)
<PulkoMandy>
and I don't expect a lot of differences anyway, as it's just API and wrapping code
<PulkoMandy>
it will be the same engine so all the tricky lowlevel parts don't need to change
