<user_>
sorry, I am trying to compile profanity
<augiedoggie>
i'm not sure if the non-packaged directories are in the default search path
<augiedoggie>
you might need to use CFLAGS/LDFLAGS environment variable to point the configure script in the right direction
<user_>
I did and got the mentioned error
<augiedoggie>
hm, hard to say without seeing the log, maybe someone else has an idea
<nephele>
Anarchos: for the backlight patch, please don't turn of the LCD on lowest brightness, if a user uses the slider it will become an unrecoverable situation

<BrunoSpr>
hello andreasdr... what is tdme2?
<andreasdr>
Its our/my 3d engine. It has Vulkan support and might be interesting to test the driver X512[m] works on.
<waddlesplash>
hmm, how evil would it be to store actual data inside the structure padding region?
<x512[m]>
Where it is needed?

<waddlesplash>
X11 keyboard event handling
<waddlesplash>
as many people have noted before, X11 keyboard event handling is just disastrous
<waddlesplash>
applications expect it to do all sorts of crazy things
<waddlesplash>
I need to pass back data into XKeyEvents which there is no room in the structure for
<waddlesplash>
and I also do not want to break ABI
<x512[m]>
How X.Org server deal with it?
<waddlesplash>
disastrously
<waddlesplash>
supposedly as of a few years ago only about 4 people in the entire world understood how input "actually works" under X11
<waddlesplash>
(no, that's not an exaggeration)
<waddlesplash>
anyway. X11 expects to pass back raw scancodes to the client which then calls a mapping function to determine what these really are
<waddlesplash>
Haiku is of course more sane, you can get the raw scancode if you really want, but we pass char[] along with the event
<waddlesplash>
more importantly though, our scancodes are int32. X11 scancodes are apparently [8-255] under normal circumstances, and if you pass back ones >255, applications think it's invalid and discard it *without even asking Xlib what it might mean*
<waddlesplash>
like I said, just disastrous
<waddlesplash>
so, I basically need to fill in all the official fields with bogus data and store the "real data" out of band so applications don't see it and freak out
<waddlesplash>
maybe I should use a ring buffer and locate the event in there...
<x512[m]>
Doesn't Haiku scancodes fit in 1 byte?
Anarchos has joined #haiku
tbcr has joined #haiku
<waddlesplash>
possibly, but that's not what I want to send here
<waddlesplash>
then I'd have to deal with keymaps and a bunch of other things
<waddlesplash>
and also then input methods wouldn't work at all
