Hi all, can someone recommend a way to access UPNP shares in VLC or play media via local SSH?
<cramit>
I tried via Konqueror and got as far as mounting the LAN SSH share, but the "Open" context menu isn't opening any of the media.

cramit: I think you would have to open a layer2 tunnel over the link somehow to do that
Jupp_S has joined #haiku
<cramit>
bparker_ thanks, I will look into layer2 tunneling if it will help me watch videos over the LAN.
<cramit>
previously I have used FuSE I think, and also a samba app of some sort. If there's a recommended way to do either of those things I'd love to hear about it.

I type "Tracker" at the terminal but it just opens the Tracker prefs window. Would like to bind Tracker file management to a shortcut, but need to know the command...
<augiedoggie>
it's /boot/system/Tracker but i think it's also one of things that will get restarted if you use the vulcan death grip and choose "restart desktop"
<augiedoggie>
you can also manage it with the launch_roster command, like 'launch_roster restart x-vnd.be-trak'
<cramit>
interesting, thanks augiedoggie. So "/boot/system/Tracker /boot/home/" works great, that's good to know!
ablyss[haiku] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<augiedoggie>
if you just want to open a specific folder then you can use the open command, 'open /boot/home'
<cramit>
oh! Good to know.
<cramit>
thanks for the tips.

augiedoggie, just fyi--it says "Can't launch open, no such file exists" if I use it via Shortcuts.
<cramit>
But the full path to Tracker + foldername method works OK.
<augiedoggie>
hm, you might have to specify the path to the open command
<cramit>
that makes sense. Is it worth using instead of calling Tracker direct?
<augiedoggie>
either way is fine, i have it set like that in my shortcuts
<cramit>
OK, cool
<augiedoggie>
the open command will find the Tracker executable and launch it for you using the system mimetype database
<augiedoggie>
mine has the path in it '/bin/open /boot/home'
<cramit>
ah, so it's more versatile, that helps.
<cramit>
does Haiku have a roll-up window feature? Only showing the titlebar
<augiedoggie>
yes, but i can't remember the shortcut, it's listed in the userguide i think
<augiedoggie>
maybe i'm thinking of BeOS

<cramit>
is there a way to roll up windows so you can only see the titlebar?
<augiedoggie>
i think BeOS may have had that feature but i don't see the option in Haiku
<cramit>
ah, bummer. OK it seems like there will at least be a workaround for too many windows in my face :D
<augiedoggie>
depending on what you're doing you can stack the windows by holding the windows key as you drag the title bars together
<DHowett>
it could've been something obscure like double-click or triple-click
<DHowett>
on the tab
<augiedoggie>
yeah, maybe

It it possible to update from the stable repo /install to nightly/master without starting over, reinstalling from scratch?
<danboid>
buy just switching the repos and updating?
<Niklas[m]>
Replace the /r1beta3/ in the repo url with /master/ and run a full system upgrade,that should bring you to the nightly version
<nephele>
yes, no. you can just switch branches if you want, but this won't retroactively install packages that would be on the respective branch by default
<nephele>
so if you switch to the beta from the nightly you won't neccesarily get stuff like the userguide for example
