<Ponciferus> Hello nephele
robo8008135[m] has joined #haiku
<robo8008135[m]> I just saw this:
<robo8008135[m]> and im here to ask a stupid question
<robo8008135[m]> is haiku posix compliant?
<nephele> Yes it is
<nephele> It's not /certified/ (I think only MacOS is?) but we do follow posix closely for the most part
<nephele> (Like most OS it's not perfect... for example posix sais echo takes /no/ arguments, but almost all posix oses have added a -n argument to it :)
<robo8008135[m]> (I should've just checked the page for haiku in wine wiki)
<nephele> Damn bridge. anyhow, no there is no third layer, but stuff in wine doesn't /only/ rely on posix
<nephele> they expect stuff from the OS that is /not/ specified in posix too, but that is then platform specific code in wine
<nephele> (or it's stuff where the platform has to adjust to support some apis needed)
<robo8008135[m]> got it
<nephele> the initial wine haiku page mentioned for example that haiku did not have libm, but wine was trying to link against it but this failed. wine said they did not want to support an OS that doesn't have this library available to link against (as in to not change the build), haiku said it's not required to be available under the name (it's in our libroot). Now Haiku has an empty libm for applications that want t
<nephele> o blindly link against it :)
<nephele> Lots of tiny things, but posix really is just not enough to have a working OS, and the rest is sometimes different sometimes the same.

<PulkoMandy> well, the libm thing is actually specified in posix
<PulkoMandy> in an indirect way: they specify the cc and c99 commands, and in both document that -lm is the command line switch to link in the math library
<PulkoMandy> so that's why we added that "fake" library to make it work that way
<nephele> Heh, you learn something new everyday... posix is a box full of suprises :)

<LegendaryAmerican> how well it works, I have to look into. but it showed at least 4 ports. the mio2 is firmware configurable, I have to check if its possible to configure without a software frontend.

<nephele> I want to get a usb midi connector, i got gifted a keyboard i can use with haiku then
<LegendaryAmerican> I have done the most basic tests, see if haiku can see the ports, it can on the Mio2. i will be plugging in some things, and trying some stuff out soon.
<LegendaryAmerican> the Mio2 is powerful.
<LegendaryAmerican> but i think you have to have special software to configure the firmware.
<LegendaryAmerican> the KMI Midi Expander is 64 dollars at sweetwater, but only has two midi ports.
<LegendaryAmerican> but it has usb midi expand..
<LegendaryAmerican> just like the mio2
<LegendaryAmerican> the bome box is 200 dollars, but ultra powerful.
freakazoid12345 has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
<LegendaryAmerican> and I dont think that requires special software to configure.
<LegendaryAmerican> there is also doremidi, I know nothing about.
<LegendaryAmerican> whatever you do dont get a china usb midi
<LegendaryAmerican> they didnt make them right.
<LegendaryAmerican> my m-audio mtrack 2x2m midi ports also work in haiku.
<LegendaryAmerican> hoping they can get the audio for that running too, and control interface matching.
<LegendaryAmerican> both the mio2 and the m-audio 2x2m are case made of metal. theyre solid pro hardware.

<AlienSoldier> must be physical, unless he live in a trailer to follow the magnetic one :)
<LegendaryAmerican> more basic tests completed. midi in and midi out to and from the mio
<LegendaryAmerican> it does both.
<LegendaryAmerican> again, haiku doesnt see 6 ports, it sees four ins and four outs on the mio2. dunno if thats just firmware on the mio2.
<nephele> if the magnetic field polarity gets inverted he would need to move pretty fast

<LegendaryAmerican> so yeah. iConnectivity Mio2 works with haiku.. maybe someone can get a firmware configuator working in haiku because the mio2 is quite powerful. also, maybe we can find out why it only patchbay only sees 4 in/4out
<AlienSoldier> the time zone are not only the same at the pole. They are all the same at the line from one pole to the other passing by the core. If was living at the core it would solve the pole inversion.
<ablyss> hey, i think the sun can also reverse polairty too.

<B2IA> (AGMS) I like the seasonal variation. Though that makes more work: snow shovelling in winter, lawn watering in summer.
<LegendaryAmerican> little snow here, summers get hot but not too hot. we get hurricanes occasionally.
<LegendaryAmerican> its not florida, but its not brutal like up north either.
<B2IA> (AGMS) Just occasional tornados here, but they're pretty small.
<LegendaryAmerican> hehe.. water spouts, which is a tornado over water that comes to shore.. but theyre funny how they operate.
<B2IA> (AGMS) And rarely an ice storm. Several days of near 0C rain which freezes onto everything, breaking trees and power lines. Wipes out a whole province's worth of infrastructure.
<LegendaryAmerican> they only come across.. at certian places. Im actually high ground in the county
<LegendaryAmerican> too many land features for tornados.

<B2IA> (AGMS) Or drone deliveries from said store?
<LegendaryAmerican> that would be sick.
<LegendaryAmerican> well we own a pool. and a homeowners association building. still.. a fast fare or really stepped up little convience mart would rock.
<B2IA> (AGMS) How's the walkability? Or would that store have to be a drive-thru?
<LegendaryAmerican> Im right outside of downtown newport nc. off chatham to new bern st, to courtyard west. very nice part of town. its like an enclave.
<LegendaryAmerican> own a condo there.
<B2IA> (AGMS) Huh, a Google search points out Newport is 15 minutes away from the beach.
