<waddlesplash> basic mouse and keyboard now work in GTK
<lcminer> Hi, im trying to install Haiku in Virtualbox, which operating system type should I select in settings?
<waddlesplash> other/unknown, typically
<waddlesplash> however you will want to select a different network card, the default for that doesn't work
<rennj> power now!
<lcminer> thanks
<rennj> power user setting
<waddlesplash> lcminer: there's a full guide with all the defaults you should set https://www.haiku-os.org/guides/virtualizing/virtualbox/
<rennj> vmware qemu virtualbox in that order
<rennj> your using the 3rd rate product
<rennj> haha oracle thanks you
<rennj> amd vlance or intel e1000 nic...they both suck in haiku
<rennj> 5MB/s smoking
<waddlesplash> I get way more than 5MB/s with ve1000
<rennj> yeah vmware e1000 ?
<rennj> cause i barely get 5MB/s
<rennj> now on my windows,freebsd,linux,solaris vm's
<rennj> i get more than 5MB/s
<rennj> but haiku vm blows chunks
<rennj> i doubt beos vm would do any better
<rennj> anyway you got proof waddlesplash
<rennj> curl,wget,sftp results would do
<rennj> heh beos and haiku networking sucks..

<augiedoggie> scp speed seems about the same as the linux host, my vmware vm gets 8+ MB/s to my NAS
HaikuUser has quit [Quit: Vision[]: i've been blurred!]
<augiedoggie> i think my NAS is probably limited by the CPU, linux might do better if i test copying over NFS
<rennj> heh, nas...try host vs guest vm
<rennj> not even leaving the local network
<waddlesplash> rennj: direct host->guest I get ~20MB/s
<waddlesplash> maxes out at 25MB/s
<rennj> yeah where is the paste of the picture
<augiedoggie> heh
<rennj> i want results
<waddlesplash> % Total % Received % Xferd Average Speed Time Time Time Current
<waddlesplash> 100 1000M 100 1000M 0 0 22.9M 0 0:00:43 0:00:43 --:--:-- 23.7M
<rennj> all this talk about networking..i barely see 10MB/s on old ass e1000...
<waddlesplash> btw TCP receive is known to have some severe bottlenecks
<waddlesplash> almost 2x faster over loopback on release instead of nightly builds due to QUEUE verification
<waddlesplash> also window scaling is extremely conservative to say the least
<waddlesplash> so indeed we could improve here. but 22M/s is not terrible
<rennj> i dont see that
<rennj> ever
<rennj> and i been using beos to haiku
<rennj> like a sucker
<waddlesplash> beos is going to be way slower than Haiku at anything network related
<rennj> anytime you want to post a screenshot
<rennj> screentshot or lies
<rennj> wget,sftp,curl,fetch whatever
<rennj> post the screenshot of doing 10MB/s
<rennj> haha
<augiedoggie> but a screenshot could be photoshopped, why not ask for video proof? :P
<rennj> yeah
<augiedoggie> lol
<rennj> well fucking better than talk
<rennj> all of 2 minutes
<rennj> i keep hearing this talk of haiku networking being faster than what i see
<rennj> how about haiku vm to haiku vm..should that be fast?

<x512[m]> I mean HaikuDepot repository.
<mmu_man> ah, good question
<mmu_man> I'd be surprised not to find a blog article about it at least
<PulkoMandy> there is a package_repo command to create a repository
<PulkoMandy> you need a repo_info file with an identifier for your repo and some other fields
<PulkoMandy> similar to the ones found in /system/settings/package-repositories
<PulkoMandy> and see https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc4151 on how to generate a valid tag: uri for the identifier field

<humdinger> hi entropy, I installed on an old Samsung NC10.
<humdinger> worked like a charm.
<humdinger> nothing special to report, just boot from a USB stick, and off you go
