There's nothing special you can do to highlight a message. It's up to the client whether it wants to do it or not

If you put "zard:" at the beginning of a message, my client highlights it for me

It seems people tend to get notified if there name appears anywhere in the string, though, so my client may be the exception for only highlighting when it's at the beginning

dprintf() in the kernel is more like printf() elsewhere though, it just goes to serial line (not like POSIX dprintf which is something else)

Every call to syslog() or log_thread/team() will pass a message to the server containing information about what should be written to the log and with what options. The message is not a BMessage, but a plain data structure that can be created without any knowledge about BMessages. That is needed, because the service is used by the kernel as well.
