<OscarL>
scanty: "VBoxManage.exe controlvm "VM-Name" setvideomodehint 1360 768 32" <<< this works for setting a particular mode, when the VM is running.
<OscarL>
Also, while using VBox, you can set the graphics controller to "VMSVGA", assign 32 MB of VRAM to it, and then on Haiku, you can install the vmware_addons, so you can use the VMWare graphics driver inside VirtualBox :-D
<scanty>
OscarL, thanks for the tips! I'm done programming for tonight, but I did figure out how to get 1680x1050 as augiedoggie showed me
<scanty>
i will save these tips
<OscarL>
beware of using the rest of the VBox guest additions... they are quite buggy/outdated.
<scanty>
yeah, i didn't want to go that route if i didn't have to.
<scanty>
thankfully i don't.
<OscarL>
I use only the host<->guess clipboard integration, and that still gives me problems :-)
<OscarL>
(had to install it manually, to avoid installing the rest of the additions)
<scanty>
i see...
<OscarL>
I have been using that VMWare driver in VBox for LOOONG. Serves me well.
<scanty>
everything seems to be working fine on my end. it's good enough to leave alone.
<OscarL>
In my hardware, VBox gives me about 75+% of bare-metal speed, VMWare 16 about 80% (both on Win10), and QEMU+KVM around 85%.
<scanty>
yes. vmware is actually pretty quick, i'm surprised
<scanty>
i mean virtualbox
<OscarL>
Thus... QEMU it is while on Linux, but on my Win10 install... I tend to use mostly VBox... because while VMWare is a bit faster... it also ends up eating too much of my 8 GB of RAM.
<scanty>
ah, i have 16GB here. plenty for my needs
<OscarL>
BTW, I tend to only assign 2 GB of RAM for my Haiku VMs...
<scanty>
i gave it 4GB
<OscarL>
only once I ran out of memory while compiling something big, and 3 GB did the trick :-)
<scanty>
:^)
<scanty>
anyways, thanks for the tips, i'm off to bed. be back tomorrow, have a good night.
<OscarL>
sleep well!
<scanty>
thanks :^)
<OscarL>

So... our young aussie coder (the cool one, not the one that barks! :-P) was able to compile the Turbo editor? Noice!
<OscarL>
I had that starred that GH project long ago, with the intention of doing a .recipe for it.
* OscarL
would be kinda happy on a "Turbo Vision OS".

Hrm. Is there a trick to getting BePDF to print a PDF? It always says "No pages to print". I found a discussion on this : https://discuss.haiku-os.org/t/haiku-printing/3734/12 but the suggested menu item of "Print Selected Pages" does not exist.
<SarkHaiku>
I can only select print even or odd pages, neither of which work.
<SarkHaiku>
I mean, the other part of the problem is that it doesn't work to begin with, but then the workaround to that bug doesn't work when there's another bug that prevents the menu option from appearing :D
<augiedoggie>
if you press the print button it should bring up another window
<augiedoggie>
and in the "Print job setup" area you can choose pages
<SarkHaiku>
Ah! That works! I did not realize that. I thought that second window was just to go back and change the settings I already made.
<SarkHaiku>
So, doing that works fine. Although every time that progress bar updates with the page it's printing, it steals focus so you can't use any other program while it's printing. Heh.
<augiedoggie>
yeah, bepdf needs a few fixes, not sure if DocumentViewer can print
<SarkHaiku>
Hrm, I don't have DocumentViewer, I might have to look for that, but BePDF works great otherwise, and now that I know the trick to print stuff, that's fine :)
